HOW IT ALL BEGANAnimal was founded in 1987 by two local surfers from the Poole area who were basically fed up with continually losing their watches out in the big surf and waves on the Dorset and Cornish coast.

Based out of their mum’s garage, they developed the now infamous ‘Animal Watchstrap’ and initially sold it to friends, like minded surfers and windsurfers as a way of funding their need for waves in warmer, more exotic locations around the world.

The straps proved immensely popular with not only the surfing and windsurfing scene but also with the growing mountain bike market, skiers and snowboarders, the outdoor market, yachties and, believe it or not, the Poole based Royal Marines!

The robust, functional and brightly coloured straps were instantly recognisable and clearly identified the wearer as someone who was different, cool and into ‘alternative’ freesports and their associated lifestyles.

THE LOGICAL PROGRESSIONAs the Animal brand grew through specialist independent retailers it gathered a larger and larger cult following and the team set themselves a clear objective: ‘why not make a fit for purpose bomb proof Animal watch to compliment the now infamous Animal watchstrap?

After several seasons in development the Pipeline Tide Watch is ready to launch. This new high performance model features a Swiss analogue/digital movement with a full tide capability giving you instant ‘on the wrist’ access to the tidal conditions at your local break or sailing/kiting location, helping you optimise your time out on the water.

The watch also features a host of other timer, countdown and alarm functions. ‘Full Animal construction’ means a super robust, corrosion-free surgical grade stainless steel case, hardened mineral glass lens, screw down case back and crown Fora depth rating to 10 atmospheres (100 metres). Swapping out the stainless steel bracelet for the extra webbing strap is a breeze with our Fin Key System tool (which also comes in handy for tweaking your fin setup) and with a 2 year guarantee you’re all set to take on those heavy sessions with confidence – the Pipeline is one serious watch.
