5 Conclusion

My time in Europe was both memorable and productive. I expect to have lasting

research contacts from many of the activities I participated in along the way. An

unexpected, but welcomed, benefit of this experience was getting to know my fel-

low IGERT colleagues. We had a lot of fun together, learning and exploring.

Figure 50: A medieval styled shop sign

in Salzburg, Austria. Look closely

and you’ll recognize the business.

There were some language barrier issues in Germany, sometimes making it difficult

or impossible to participate. I also had difficulty getting in contact with professors

at TUM, which prevented me from making a stronger connection with the univer-

sity. The IGSSE forum was a great experience and I’d like to thank TUM and Dr.

Liedl for inviting the IGERT students.

I’d also like to thank everyone that made this trip possible - the National Science

Foundation, Dr. Edgar, Risa Hartman, and my advisors Dr. Ezekoye and Dr.

Webber. Thank you so much for your continued support.
