Super Late Models Bring Blizzard Back F or a select few the 2010 season has started out on a positive note. D J Vanderley set a new Pro Late Model track record and then backed it up with a feature win. His plans are to compete for the PLM championship and is surely headed in the right direction. He also will be entering college in the fall. Sometimes your ability to drive a racecar is not all you need. A little luck comes in handy. It definitely showed up on Greg Young’s side on March 26th. Young got wrecked on the first lap and after pitting for repairs, he returned to the track hoping for a decent finish, and wound up in Super Stock victory lane. The Sportsman and Bomber divisions have pretty much been domi- nated so far by Stevie Mercer and Mike Goraum by winning the first two features in their respective divisions. Vanderley, Young and Goraum are eyeing champion- ships while Mercer could have a change of plans in the near future. The first Blizzard race this week- end for the Super Late Models begins the 5 race series with hopes of getting an ear- ly season win and racing toward a guaran- teed starting spot in the 2010 Snowball Derby. Some of the best Super Late Model drivers in the country are on hand and they should supply you with “Hair Raising” “No Holds Barred” excitement in tonight’s Pepsi Max 100. Johanna Long will be out to defend her title while Brandon Carlson will take over his father’s (Scott) Super Late Model ride looking for his first win in the series. He is no stranger to Five Flags Speedway and surely knows how to get it done. Just look at his prior wins in the Pro Late Model division which includes a Snowflake 100 victory. Photos of some of tonights SLM drivers are inside. Next week we will feature the top 5 in each lo- cal division. The staff at Five Flags Speedway would like to send out our “GET WELL” wishes to Momma Bryant for a speedy re- covery. “Get Well Soon”. We miss you and need to see your smiling face again. -Steve Stokes is a former racer, a track official, and BLAB-TV host. 5 Flags Speedway April 9, 2010 #3 Steve Stokes Bonus Inside! 10 Mini Hero Cards

Tonight’s Pepsi Max 100 is the first in a series of 10 events that makes up the Sunoco Gulf Coast Championship Series. The Blizzard Series races are paired with the Miller Lite 100 races at Mobile Interna-tional Speedway to make up the Sunoco Series. The series gives the race crews the opportunity to drive to the Gulf Coast for two races in one weekend, 5 times a year. Drivers earn points at each event, and the combination of the points, deter-mines the standings in the Sunoco series. In order to earn series points, the driver must compete in both events each week-end. You can see many of the same drivers tomorrow night at MIS.
