The short film has a very clear strength and also is one of the best ways to find and think of ourselves as human beings and as a society. In Latin America there is a very diverse film production, that breaks the cliché that Latin American cinema is one and the same thing. Lakino wants to keep giving space to this short film format very difficult to find, 100% independent and to filmmakers who do not appear on the cover of newspapers and are important because they help us to see different aspects of reality.

Journeys through Latin America - The Official Competition - is the heart of the festival, offers extraordinary possibilities for directors to show their works to the whole world. It is important for the Latin American Cinema that these productions are recognized worldwide and lead to discussions about Latin American topics. So this festival also offers a space for discussions, interactions and exchange.

Cross Border, “I am an alcoholic. I am addicted to drugs. I am gay. I am a genius”. This section deals with the LGBTQ - topics and wants to make a social contribution to draw the attention to more tolerance, acceptance, solidarity and equality.

Human Rights, the respect for human rights and the dignity of men is the basis for freedom, justice and peace in the world. The aim of HHRR is to support the basic principles of human solidarity, mutual understanding and the exchange between cultures.

LakinoKids, the magic of film and theatre shall also fascinate our youngest festival guests. Children of every linguistic background are more than welcome. Our election: just images, no words, so that the magic of the moving images can be developed without interruption.

Panama in Fokus “Oh wie schön ist Panama” This year we invited the International Short Film Festival Hayah from Panama to get to know the best short film productions from their country.

Spain in Fokus, We have so many spanish friends in Berlin. With this program we want to offer them something very special.

Der Kurzfilm als Genre hat eine ganz eigene Stärke und ist eine der besten Möglichkeiten, uns zu begegnen und über das eigene Mensch-Sein und die Gesellschaft im Allgemeinen nachzudenken. In Lateinamerika gibt es eine sehr breitgefächerte Filmproduktion, die mit dem Klischee bricht, dass das lateinamerikanische Kino einheitlich und überall das gleiche ist. Lakino möchte auch weiterhin eine Plattform für das unabhängige Kurzfilmformat sein und sowohl Filmen, die man sonst eher selten findet als auch Filmemachern, deren Gesichter nicht die Titelseiten der Hochglanzzeitschriften zieren, Raum geben. Gerade sie sind wichtig, weil sie uns die verschiedenen Aspekte der Realität aufzeigen.

Reise durch Lateinamerika, Der Offizielle Wettbewerb ist das Herzstück des Festivals, er bietet ausgezeichnete Möglichkeiten für Filmemacher aus der ganzen Welt um ihre Arbeiten zu zeigen. Es ist wichtig für das lateinamerikanische Kino, dass seine Produktionen weltweit Anerkennung finden und eine Diskussion über lateinamerikanische Themen anregen. In diesem Sinne ist das Festival auch ein Ort für Diskussionen, Interaktionen und Austausch.

Cross Border, “Ich bin Alkoholiker. Ich bin drogenabhängig. Ich bin homosexuell. Ich bin genial”. Diese Sektion beschäftigt sich mit LGBTQ-Themen und möchte einen gesellschaftlichen Beitrag leisten, um die Aufmerksamkeit auf mehr Toleranz, Akzeptanz, Solidarität und Gleichberechtigung zu lenken.

Menschenrechte, Die Achtung der Menschenrechte und die Würde jedes Einzelnen ist die Basis für Freiheit, Gerechtigkeit und Frieden auf der Welt. Das Ziel von HHRR ist es, die grundlegenden Prinzipien von menschlicher Solidarität, gegenseitigem Verständnis und den Austausch zwischen den Kulturen zu unterstützen.

LakinoKids, Die Magie des Films und des Theaters soll unsere jüngsten Festivalgäste faszinieren. Kinder jeglichen sprachlichen Backgrounds sind eingeladen. Unsere Wahl: nur Bilder keine Worte, damit sich die Magie der bewegten Bilder im Kinosaal ungestört entfalten kann.
