Khao Shong The Essence of Thai Coffee

Khao Shong, to millions of Thais, means coffee. For half a century, Thailand's original home-grown brand of coffee has titillated the taste buds of the Thai people with its rich and distinctive flavour that is ideally suited to local tastes. Now entering its sixth decade and more successful than ever, Khao Shong has launched a brand new range of products aimed to cater to the tastes of a whole new generation of coffee lovers, yet retaining the superb quality, taste and aroma for which the Khao Shong brand is renowned.

The Khao Shong story began in 1959 when Mr. Chira Chiralerspong noticed wild coffee beans scattered at the sides of the road in the Khao Kra Shong National Park in Trang province, southern Thailand. He collected a few of the beans and, through his experience in coffee production in Indonesia, began experimenting with different roasts. Ultimately he came up with a roast that produced the fine aroma and rich, full-bodied taste that he was looking for.

In 1962, Mr. Chira launched Khao Shong Coffee to the Thai market for the first time, naming his coffee product after the site in Trang where the first beans were found. The rich aroma and superb taste of Khao Shong ensured that the coffee quickly grew in popularity, spreading rapidly throughout the Thai market.

In 1975 he established a coffee roasting and grinding facility in Bangkok, and four years later launched Khao Shong Instant Coffee, Thailand's first home-brand instant coffee. By 1991, the Khao Shong Company had expanded considerably and operations were relocated to a modern new plant in Samutprakarn province on the outskirts of Bangkok. Today the company operates dedicated factory, warehouse and distribution facilities in Samutprakarn, with sales and marketing activities run from the Bangkok office.

Khao Shong Industry 1979 Co., Ltd. has produced coffee under the "Khao Shong" brand for over 50 years, starting out by roasting little more than a handful of coffee beans and becoming the largest and only successful Thai producer of instant coffee products.
