The Project

The 511NY Mobile Application will be a scalable, mobile, statewide travel information service providing quality, timely, and reliable real-time traffic, transit and transit trip planning information to users with supported mobile devices.

What Devices to Support?

• The 511NY Mobile Application shall be supported on the following mobile devices:

• BlackBerry (OS v 4.5 or later with recommended 1000kb free space recommended and Blackberry Maps installed)

• Windows Smart Phone 7.0 when made available on the Pyxis Mobile platform.

• iPhone or iPod Touch (v 3.0 or later)• Android (this is a new client supported by Pyxis Mobile 7.1, may be

ready for release in late September rather than late August due to advanced mapping features)

• Be familiar with the platform being used. • Ask how the platform effects the application.• How does the platform handle the implementation.

• Application developed very quickly • Not familiar with State Agency processes• Application demos early in the process• Design document was lengthy process• System Acceptance Testing

• Testing request before documentation was complete• Changes made quickly• Testing not thorough before retest

Application Availability ?

The 511NY Mobile Application will be available for download and install via the various application stores:

• Blackberry – Blackberry App World• iPhone – App Store• Android – Android Market• Windows Phone 7 – TBD when Microsoft releases Windows Phone 7.

The Application Stores

The stores:◦ Google Android – Very easy to register. Did not ask for documentation proving

NYSDOT’s legitimacy.($25 - Registration is immediate)

◦ Blackberry – Requires supporting documentation to prove NYSDOT legitimacy. ($200 - Takes anywhere from 2-3 weeks before the application submission is complete and the app is put into the store.)

◦ IPhone - Requires supporting documentation to prove NYSDOT legitimacy, still waiting a response. ($75 - Takes anywhere from 2-3 weeks before the application submission is complete and the app is put into the store.)
