For Immediate Release: May 14, 2015 NARAL Pro-Choice Texas Statement On ‘Pro-Life’ Members of Texas House Voting Down Minimum Wage Increase and Equal Pay Austin, TX—Less than 24 hours after the Texas House passed an omnibus anti-abortion bill, they voted down a resolution that would put raising the minimum wage on Texas ballots and an equal pay amendment. In a statement on the House’s actions, Heather Busby, executive director of NARAL Pro- Choice Texas, said: “The same members of the Texas Legislature who push for more abortion restrictions under the guise of being ‘pro-life’ actively oppose policies that would directly benefit women, children and hardworking Texas families. How can they call themselves ‘pro- life’ when they do nothing to help the children already born in this state? It's despicable.” House Joint Resolution (HJR) 26 by Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer would have put the issue of raising the minimum wage to the voters. Rep. Justin Rodriguez’s proposed amendment to HJR 26 would have added an equal pay provision. ### Contact: Zoey Lichtenheld, [email protected], o: (512) 462-1661, m: (512) 659-8650
