1. INTRODU CTION

1.01 Th is section covers the maintenance of the

selec tor only arrangement of the 6A K eyTe lephone System, the use of  sequence ch arts andopera tional sketches, and a description  of th e

symbols used.

2. GENERAL

2.01 Th is section  is reissued to updat e sequenc e

charts an d operational sketches .

2.02 This issue of the se ction is b as ed on CD-

an d  SD-69286-01, Issue 8D. If   th is sectio n

is to be used with equipm ent or apparatus reflecting a  later is sue of  th e draw in g, reference shoul d bemad e to   the later CD and SD to determine the extent of the ch anges and the  m anner in which the section may be affected.

2.03   The circuits used in   the

6AKey TelephoneSystem have been reduced to  simplified

sequen ce charts and operational sketches.

• Sequence  charts cover the op era t ion andre lease  of relays, ke ys, and ot her appara tus

in th ei r relative time order. They  ar eshown from  th e top downward an d ar e co nnected by appro priate lines to sho w  the

interdependence of the successiv e operations.

• Operational sketches show complete circuits

fro m battery to g roun d in simplified for m ,completely disregardin g boundaries  ofco nventional SD drawings. Key telephon e

unit numbers beneath the co mplete circuit

id en tify key te lephone units in which  theindividual relays, relay  contacts , or otherap paratus ar e located.

4. BASIC OPERATION OF SELECTOR CIRCUIT  S EQ UENCE CHART !SEE  NOTE!

4.01 Relays A and Bhave previously been operated

as described in 3. As each digit is dialed,

relay A releases and reoperates in unison wi th

the d ia l pulses. Slow release relay B remainsope rated during dialing. As the A relay pulses, a

ground is connected to th e ro tary magnet causin g

th e selector switch to step in unison wi th the dialed

pulses.

4. 02 A slow re leas ing relay C operates on the

first release o f relay A  and rem ai ns operated

during the pul se train. This rela y causes operation

of the T relay whi ch in turn connect s a resistor

and capacitor across its winding. The capacitor is

charged during puls ing, and it s discharg e after

the release of re la y   C holds the T re lay operatedfor appro x im ately 1-1/2 seco nd s, thus providin g

the timing interval used  to cont ro l the au dib le

11. PRESET CONFERENCE

11.01 A preset conference can be es tablished by

di aling a code or by the u se of a s ignal

key.

11.02 Afte r line seizure has been accomplished,

as describe d in 3, a ground is connected

to the preset conference circuit under control of

the selector circuit i f the dial was used or   under

control of an operated s ignal key. This ground

will cause the operation of relay ROJ, un der control

of either the PC J or PC2 re lay . In operating,

the  ROJ relay co nnects battery to the PC J and

PC2 relays and locks up under their control .

11.03 The PC l or PC2 relay will now operate .

Th e operation of the PCl or PC2 relay will:

(a) lockup, (b) release the RO l re lay, and (c) connect

audible signal powe r to a maximum of six on-premise

station audible signals. When off-premise station s

(m a x imu m  of three) are to be included in the

preset conference, they must be connected to

punchings 1, 2, or 3 of the  PCl re lay. When th e

PCJ relay operates as described above, a groun dis supplied to operate the lo ng line circuit.

11.04 When the dial is used, the T relay in the

selector circuit releases at the en d of th e

nominal1-1/2 second interval. The release of relay

T releases th e PCl or PC2 re lay, as th e case m ay

be , thus openin g the au dible s ignal path to  the

called stations. With the us e of a signal key, th e

au dible s ignal at the called stations will operate

as long as the key is depressed.

When i t is ascertained that one of th e 6A st at

is to be conferenced with this call, a hold is pl

on the central office or PBX line.

12. 02 Th e 6A station to be conferenced is selec

signaled, and a talk ing path establishe

previously described.

12.03 The operation of th e add-on signal ke

the control station causes the operatio

relay N. The N relay in operating: (a) locks

under control of th e selector circuit, (b) opens

operate path of any other N relay, thus preventhe   intercon nection of  tw o or more outside l

(see inset on operational sketch), and (c) brid

the incoming central office or PBX line an d

12.04 The add-on conference con trol circu

If n add-o n signal key i s acciden

operated, stations busy on th e 6A

14. OFF-PREMISE STATION, INCOMING CALL

14.01  When an off-premise station is selected in

th e usual manner (by us e of dial or signal

key ), the C or S  lead ground causes operation of

relay R in the long line circuit. The R relay: (a)

opens the transmission path between the off-premiseand local s ta t ions and (b) connects generator to

th e off-prem ise station 's T an d  R leads operating

the audible signal .

Page 20

14.02 An off-premise station which is included in

a preset co nference arrangement  has it s

lo ng line circu i t opera ted by a  ground provided

from the operated PCJ relay in the preset conference

circuit.

14.03The

Rre lay will re

lease under control  of

the  slow release T  re lay in the selector

circuit, or upon release of the signal key, re-establish ing

the transmission pat h of the off-prem ise station.
