Un unknown number of heavily armed suspects used explosives, Sgt Ofentse Mokgadi, police spokesperson, confirmed. This ATM bombing occurred in President Thabo Mbeki drive, East-End Rustenburg. The getaway vehicles reported in this incident, are a grey BMW 3 Series and a newer shaped white BMW, Crimespotter Rustenburg reported. Crimespotter Rustenburg members traced the vehicles to Kanana, where they disappeared into the village. The Police, the Rustenburg Flying Squad, the Community Policing Forum (CPF) and the Rustenburg Crime Combating Forum (RCCF) also responded swiftly to the incident. A second-hand car dealership located across from the ATM, sustained damages from the blast’s debris during the ATM bombing – as well as from gunshots fired in that direction. When a security guard, stationed nearby, went to investigate the blast; the perpetrators opened fire on him. Fortunately, he was not hit. The suspects got away with an unknown amount of cash. Rustenburg – On Sunday, 24 July 2016, the Rustenburg Men in Blue on patrol, arrested three human traffick- ers, the Police reported on Tuesday, 26 July 2016. Fifty seven (57) youngsters, aged be- tween 11 and 21, were rescued – and are now at a place of safety in Rusten- burg. The two police officers spotted a white ‘delivery’ truck, travelling at a high speed in Rustenburg, and pulled them over. Seated in the front of the truck, were three Malawian men, two passengers and the driver. They re- fused to answer any questions – or open the back of the truck. The officers forced the back of the truck open. The overloaded, crammed space forced some of the children to fall to the ground once the door was opened. Eighteen (18) young Mala- wian girls and thirty-nine (39) young boys were enclosed in the truck, which had one makeshift window at the top. The National Police Commissioner confirmed; “The Department of Social Development immediately took the children to a place of safety, where they were assessed and treated.” It is unclear how long the youngsters had been on the road, how or when they crossed the border, where their intended destination was, or what they were trafficked for. The three Malawians were arrested for human trafficking; and appeared briefly before the Rustenburg Region- al Magistrates’ Court. Their case had been postponed to September 2016. They face 57 charges of human traf- ficking. The SA Police are working closely with the Malawian authorities during the in- vestigation.
