Спеціально вибрані Австрійські Скаути принесли Світло

Миру з Вифлеємського храму Різдва Христового до Відня,

Австрії. Звідти вогонь був переданий в країни Європи і

Америки через Скаутські організації, в тому числі і

Українських Пластунів. Світло Миру прибуває на

летовище імені Джона Кеннеді в Нью-Йорку і знову буде

розподілене до всіх міст Північної Америки.

Вифлеємське Світло Миру буде горіти в соборі Св.

МОЛЕБЕН ДО ХРИСТА - ЕММАНУЇЛА

В часі Різдвяного посту кожної середи, починаючи з 23-

го листопада, в соборі служитиметься молебен до Христа

- Еммануїла в 6 годині вечора. Запрошуємо парафіян до

молитви.

ПИЛИПІВКА

Триває Різдвяний піст - Пилипівка, від 15 листопада і до

навечір'я Різдва Господа і нашого Спаса Ісуса Христа -

24 грудня. Це є традиційний час на посилену молитву,

розважання, стримання від їжі і поганих помислів, щоб в

такий спосіб ми могли приготувати себе на оселю для

зустрічі з новонародженим Христом. Церква рекомендує

добровільне стримання від м'ясних страв у середу і

п'ятницю під час посту.

приблизно 700 і більше людей. Минулорічний чистий

прихід від обідів (шість п’ятниць) був приблизно 30

тисяч доларів.

Цього року парафія шукає за особами, які могли б

взяти на себе відповідальність за проведення,

організацію та координацію рибних обідів, які

наступного року розпочнуться 3 – го березня і

закінчаться 7 – го квітня. Ми маємо волонтерів для

праці в кухні і в замовленні продуктів, і так далі, але

потребуємо одну чи дві особи як координаторів

процесу. Для додаткової інформації будь - ласка,

контактуйте до отця Богдана чи архидиякона Єфрема,

або до членів дорадчого комітету. Дякуємо вам і

сподіваємось, що рибні обіди в 2017 році будуть мати

великий успіх, як і перед тим.

Великопосні рибні обіди в нашій парафії мають

величезний успіх, так як кожної п’ятниці їх відвідує

Уривки з катехизму “ Христос - наша Пасха” Потреба в їжі та питті природна для людини; їжа необхідна для підтримання життя. Проте пристрасть до їжі спотворює природну потребу людини й призводить до гріха обжерливості, коли їжа стає самоціллю. Є різні вияви цього гріха. Перший із них – це надмірність у їжі та питті. Святі Отці навчали, що їжа, спожита понад міру, шкодить душі. Другий вияв обжерливості – це пошук у їжі та напоях насамперед насолоди. Нестриманість у їжі та питті призводить до непогамованості також у всьому іншому, оскільки перенасиченням тіла людина намагається втамувати голод і спрагу душі. Святий Касіан зауважує, що «ми ніколи не зможемо опанувати потягу до земних страв, якщо наша душа… не віднайде більшої радості від споглядання Бога». (#759)

Fast. This is a traditional time of prayer, penance and fasting

as we prepare our families and our hearts to be the dwelling

place of our Lord. Voluntary fasting from meat products on

Wednesdays and Fridays is recommended.

MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER GROUP MEETING

The second meeting of married couples in our parish will

take place on on Saturday, December 3rd, at 5:00 PM in the

Parish Rectory.

At these meetings we share experiences, and talk about the

problems and challenges for marriage in today’s world. We

invite everyone to participate. We will meet once a month on

Saturday after the Divine Liturgy. SATURDAY DIVINE LITURGY TIME CHANGE

Please note: On Saturday, December 3rd, the English evening

Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 3:00 PM. This time

change is for that day only - on the following Saturday the

Divine Liturgy will be at the regular time of 4:00 PM. ST. NICHOLAS CONCERT

On Sunday, December 4th, after the 11 AM Divine Liturgy,

we will have a small concert in St. Josaphat Cathedral to

celebrate the Feast of St. Nicholas.

This year there will be no luncheon in the Astrodome—only

the performance in the Cathedral with a visit from St.

Nicholas.

On that Sunday, the Parish Coffee Gathering in the Men’s

Club room will take place after all Divine Liturgies.

On Wednesday, November 30th, Fr. Bohdan

Barytskyy will celebrate the 19th anniversary of his

Ordination to the Holy Priesthood. We celebrate

with Father Bohdan and wish him many blessings,

good health, happiness and strength as he continues his

work for God and His church.

ST. ANDREW’S PENCE

Traditionally on or around the Feast of St. Andrew, the first

called Apostle (November 30) our parishes have a special

collection for needs of pastoral ministry of His Beatitude

Sviatoslav. Please see letter from Most Rev. Bohdan Danylo

Next Sunday, December 4th, we will take a collection for St.

Andrew’s Pence. Please give generously to St. Andrew’s

BRIGHTEN THE HOLIDAYS FOR THE CHILDREN

OF UKRAINE’S HEROES

On Sunday, December 4th, The Cleveland Maidan

Association will be taking a collection after all Divine

Liturgies in the Cathedral vestibule.

They are appealing to all people with sincere hearts. Help

us bring cheer to the children who’ve lost their parents to

the war in eastern Ukraine. With one simple gesture,

sending holiday parcels with clothing and sweets, we can

make a difference in the lives of these children!

MOLEBEN TO CHRIST EMMANUEL

In preparation for the Feast of the Nativity of our Lord, we

will be celebrating a Moleben to Christ Emmanuel on

Wednesdays at 6:00 PM during Phillip’s Fast. We invite all

parishioners to come and join us as we prepare for the

coming of Emmanuel - God With Us.

PHILIP’S FAST We began a new season in our Church, a period of spiritual

preparation for the celebration of the birth of our Lord,

God, and Savior, Jesus Christ. This season, which lasts 40

so we do not have to cancel this successful fundraiser in 2017. PYROHY SALES

We currently are in need of more volunteers help make

pyrohy. If you have the time and desire to help the parish,

please come to the Pyrohy kitchen on Thursday mornings.

We begin making pyrohy at 6 pm in the morning.

We graciously THANK our dedicated pyrohy workers who

donate their time and efforts each week to our Cathedral

pyrohy project. Pyrohy Sales hours are Thursdays & Fridays from 8am until 1pm. We invite all parishioners to consider

The Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus, under Artistic Director

and Condudctor Oleh Mahlay, returns to the Cleveland area

with its "A Bandura Christmas" Fundraising Concert &

Reception Saturday December 17th, at 6:30 PM, Pokrova

Ukrainian Catholic Church, 6812 Broadview Road.

Join us as our bandura players and chorus from throughout

North America perform traditional Ukrainian Christmas

Carols featuring the 60-stringed bandura. A reception will

ST. ANDREW PARISH ANNUAL COOKIE WALK

St. Andrew Ukrainian Catholic Church, 7700 Hoertz Road,

Parma will have their Annual Cookie Walk on Saturday,

BETHLEHEM LIGHT

Sunday, December 11, 2016, at the 11:00 AM

Divine Liturgy, Plast will bring to our Cathedral

the Bethlehem Light. This Peace Light is

transported from Bethlehem. Specially chosen Austrian

Scouts bring the Peace Light from the Bethlehem Nativity

Grotto to Vienna, Austria where it is redistributed to

countries in Europe and America by Plast Ukrainian Scouts

and other Scouts.

The Bethlehem Peace Light will be placed behind the

Tetrapod and will remain lit during the Christmas Season.

Mark your calendars!!! We are having a Parish

Our parish Lenten Fish Fry fundraiser has been very

profitable for our parish. This year we are looking for

someone in the Parish to volunteer to coordinate and

manage this 6 week event which begins on Friday, March 3rd

2017 and ends on Friday, April 7th 2017. Numerous

excessive desire distorts a natural human need. This leads to the sin of gluttony, wherein food becomes an

Holy Fathers taught that food consumed in excess harms the soul. The second manifestation of gluttony is

the quest for food and drink primarily for pleasure. A lack of self-control in eating and drinking leads to

voraciousness in everything else, since one seeks to satiate the hunger and thirst of the soul by over

indulging the body. Saint John Cassian notes: “We cannot possibly scorn the gratification of food

presented to us, unless the mind is fixed on...the delight of things celestial.”. (# 759)

In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis has called each of us to be a witness of charity. He en-

courages us to "open our eyes and see the misery of the world, the wounds of our brothers and sisters

who are denied their dignity, and let us recognize that we are compelled to heed their cry for

help!" (Misericordiae Vultus [MV], no. 15).

Traditionally on or around Feast of St. Andrew, the first called Apostle (November 30) our parishes

have a special collection for needs of pastoral ministry of His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

St. Andrew's Pence Collection unites us in solidarity with His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head

of the Ukrainian Catholic Church and its works of charity to those in need. Your generosity allows

His Beatitude Sviatoslav to respond to our suffering brothers and sisters.

The purpose of St. Andrew's Pence Collection is to provide Patriarch Sviatoslav with the financial

means to respond to those who are suffering as a result of war, oppression, natural disaster, and dis-

ease.

Thank you for standing in solidarity with His Beatitude through your generosity. Please continue to

pray for our brothers and sisters in faith who are facing adversity.

Our priests are indispensable. They give their lives to

their saving mission of Christ and His church. It is our

duty to pray for our priests. And so we are officially

starting our “Adopt a Priest Program.” We will send

interested parishioners a prayer card with the specific

name of a priest, bishop or seminarian for whom to pray.

And each year thereafter, at the beginning of our church

year, September 1st, we will send a different priest to

include in your prayers. To participate, please e-mail your
