WHAT IS 5S?
It is a basic approach for QUALITY AND PRODUCTIVITY improvement in all types of
workplace. It is the beginning of a more comfortable and PRODUCTIVE workplace.
Moreover, It is intended to make discipline and orderliness a habit in the workplace.
1. SEIRI – identify and take out unnecessary items and dispose them accordingly
By sorting:
What do I need to do my job?
Unnecessary items are discarded or dispose
Undecided Items, put “red tag”
HOW???
Step1: Evaluate/ Assess workplace in relation to the use of a workplace
Identitfy unnecessary items and dispose them
Designate storage area
Step2: if you and your colleagues cannot decide, put a DISPOSAL NOTICE with the date on the item, and set the item aside
Step3: “AKAFUDA OPERATION”- tagging Operation. It is one technique of implementing Seiri. The objective is to remove the unnecessary items that are not needed so that the workplace becomes both clearer and smarter
2. SEITON – “Arrange NECESSARY items in good and proper order.
By systematize:
Where should I place this item?
How many of these items do I really need?
“A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING AND EVERYTHING IN ITS PLACE”
