5th anniversary - year two
DESCRIPTION
ÂTRANSCRIPT
2012 was truly a year of firsts in our new
organization. As we started to settle in to
our new environment it was time to start
innovating. And we did!
This was the inaugural year for our iCcare
Awards, established by the Board to
recognize an employee, physician and
volunteer who consistently demonstrate
the values of SAH. The first recipients of
this award were:
Cathy Hallaert—Employee in the
Housekeeping Department
Dr. David Berry—Nephrologist and
Director of the Algoma Regional Renal
Program
Bill Kerr—Volunteer with 10 years of
service at SAH.
This year saw ADCP go live with Mosaic, a
new electronic health record for medical
oncology and radiation therapy. Mosaic
allows nurses in ADCP and Radiation
Therapy to perform electronic patient
assessments. The system also allows
Physicians to enter patient orders
electronically.
In 2012, the Foundation was also innovating
new ways to raise funds for new equipment to
help improve how we deliver patient care.
This was the first year for the Employee
Everyday Hero Campaign, the Around the
World in 30 Days Draw, as well as the
Grateful Patient Program.
2012 was a year of innovation and firsts in our
new building. Helping us get one step closer
to achieving our vision of “best” and living our
iCcare value of Excellence all year!
In September 2012, leaders
received their first taste of lean at
LDI. Leaders learned that lean
and transformation is about living
and breathing our iCcare values
each and every day. A key
message from LDI was that lean
requires front-line staff to solve
the problem. The leaders role is
all about removing barriers. Later
this same year 20
employees were selected
to participate in the yellow
belt certification pilot
project. Candidates were
required to complete 2
days of lean training and a
process improvement
project aimed at reducing
waste and resulting in better
patient care.

Wellness Committee Firsts This year the Wellness
Committee celebrated it’s
first year in existence and
innovated even more
ways to keep us healthy
and well at work.
The Wellness Committee
celebrated many firsts in
2012 such as;
SAH Kids Career Day
An event targeted at high
school students
considering a career in
health care.
Take the Stairs
Campaign
The goal is to promote
employee health by
boosting energy and
burning calories. There
were 60 prize winners
that week and 19
participants in the
Commitment Challenge.
These participants
completed
23 531 steps and 871
flights of stairs.
Walk in My Shoes
The goal of this program
is to allow a variety of
staff to experience and
appreciate the wide
variety of important day-
to-day roles performed
by others across the
organization. For the
first Walk in My Shoes
event 20 participants
paired up with 22
buddies to see first hand
the challenges and
rewards of other
departments.
Wellness Champion
A program to recognize
staff members who have
demonstrated a
commitment to wellness.
What a year of firsts for
the wellness committee!
build a web-based hand
hygiene app to conduct
the Ministry-mandated
hand hygiene audits.
Previously in paper
form, audit results had
to be manually entered
into the database and
spreadsheet. The
development of this
new web-based app,
when used with a
suitable device such as
a tablet or notebook,
eliminates the need to
copy the data from
paper worksheet onto
the computer, which
increases time spent on
other Infection Control
activities, such as
educating staff, patients
and visitors. What a
year of innovative firsts!
