Dear Parishioners,

The FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT which is also known as the First Sunday of Passion (previously, Passiontide or Passion Sunday - emphasis on the sufferings of Christ) draws us closer to the Paschal Mystery, the heart of the liturgical year. Associated with this Sunday is the (optional) custom of veiling crosses, images and statues in the Church which has its origins on the “hunger cloth” or the “Lenten veil” at the beginning of Lent or mid-way during Lent, which hides the Altar from the congregation, “fast of the eyes”. We will continue to observe this religious practice which began in the 10th century, for you to get a better feel of an ancient tradition in the worship environment, which in turn will help us focus more on the passion of Christ. This Sunday’s gospel John 12: 20-33 which says, “Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit” brings so much energy and life. This is a profoundly inspiring passage as Jesus is the seed (the grain of wheat) that falls to the earth (by his dying) and dies in order to give much fruit (gave life to humankind). Only after a seed is buried on the ground can it turn into a plant and bear fruit. Otherwise, it remains just a seed which doesn’t fulfill its purpose. Jesus, as the grain of wheat, reminds us of the significance of his death and life. The Letter to the Hebrews mentions that he learned obedience from what he suffered. The fruit and benefit of his once and for all sacrificial death on the cross, is our communion with God for eternal life.

Over the next few weeks, resources on the morality of available vaccines from the Holy See will be posted here in this bulletin to provide information and enlighten us regarding its use with the sole intent of responding to some of your questions and concerns. I understand, some of you remain undecided and hesitant about getting vaccinated for whatever reason. It’s your personal choice, but vaccines are modern discoveries designed to protect the sacredness of life. It is therefore a personal and communal duty to protect yourself, others, the greater community and the world at large from this deadly disease. I hear this all the time, no one is safe until everyone is safe.

On the SOLEMNITY OF THE ANNUNCIATION OF THE LORD, March 25, we celebrate and rejoice over the divine revelation/encounter between the Angel Gabriel and the lowly Mary who was surprised hearing such a message.

EN El CUARTO DOMINGO DE CUARESMA, profundizamos en el arrepentimiento, nuestro camino, y la manera de regresar a Dios. Nos arrepentimos por el odio al pecado y el tormento del infierno, la anticipación de los gozos del cielo, pero lo más importante, el amor de Dios. El segundo libro de Crónicas, el último libro de la Biblia Judía nos muestra la ira y la misericordia de Dios. Es muy importante saber reconocer nuestros pecados y expresar una sincera contrición de corazón, es decir, sentir pena por ellos. La gracia de Dios, que es mucho más grande que nosotros, es la razón de nuestro arrepentimiento. La Cuaresma es una época de renovación y renacimiento. En esta coyuntura, evaluamos nuestro progreso. El Evangelio nos dice: "Porque tanto amó Dios al mundo que dio a su único hijo para que todo el que crea en Él tenga vida eterna". Sin duda, esto es profundamente conmovedor en el que nuestra respuesta a la verdad es abrazar y aceptar de tal manera que no podemos hacer mucho más que dar la bienvenida de todo corazón a la gracia magnifica en nuestro medio.

A la luz de la creciente controversia con respecto al uso de las vacunas disponibles, quiero

informarles que bajo estas circunstancias extraordinarias, es decir, emergencia de salud global cuando no existen otras opciones / alternativas para salvar a la humanidad y proteger la sacralidad de la vida extendiéndola en la medida de lo posible, por razones serias y graves, es decir, para la seguridad, protección, salud y bienestar de las personas (las personas vulnerables, los ancianos, las personas con condiciones preexistentes y las que se encuentran en lugares remotos) y la humanidad en su conjunto, Las VACUNAS disponibles se consideran MORALMENTE PERMISIBLES / ACEPTABLES, lo que significa que no hay culpabilidad moral de su parte si decide, en buena conciencia, ser inoculado. Hemos sufrido tanta angustia durante el año pasado y nuestra principal prioridad en este momento es la preservación del valor infinito de la vida. Vacunarse no constituye cooperación moral y / o participación, ni contribuye a un acto de maldad que tuvo lugar hace varias décadas.

El pasado 8 de diciembre de 2020, el Santo Padre emitió una carta apostólica Patris Corde (con

Corazón de Padre) para dedicar este año como el AÑO DE SAN JOSÉ para conmemorar el 150 aniversario de la proclamación de San José como Patrón de la Iglesia Universal. En este año, celebramos la SOLEMNIDAD DE SAN JOSÉ el viernes 19 de marzo. Algunos de nosotros hemos comenzado a rezar la LETANÍA DE SAN JOSÉ para obtener las INDULGENCIAS ESPECIALES otorgadas por la Penitenciaría Apostólica.

Estimados feligreses,

El QUINTO DOMINGO DE CUARESMA, también conocido como Primer Domingo de Pasión (anteriormente, Passiontide o Domingo de Pasión - énfasis en los sufrimientos de Cristo) nos acerca al Misterio Pascual, el corazón del año litúrgico. Asociado a este domingo está la costumbre (opcional) de velar cruces, imágenes y estatuas en la iglesia que tiene su origen en el "paño del hambre" o el "velo de Cuaresma" al comienzo de la cuaresma o a mitad de camino durante la cuaresma que oculta el altar a la congregación, “ayuno de ojos”. Continuaremos observando esta práctica religiosa que comenzó en el siglo X para que puedas tener una mejor idea de una tradición antigua en el ambiente de adoración, lo que a su vez nos ayudará a enfocarnos más en la pasión de Cristo. El Evangelio de este domingo, Juan 12: 20-33, que dice: “A menos que un grano de trigo caiga a la tierra y muera, queda sólo un grano de trigo; pero si muere, da mucho fruto” y da tanta energía y vida. Este es un pasaje profundamente inspirador ya que Jesús es la semilla (el grano de trigo) que cae a la tierra (al morir) y muere para dar mucho fruto (dio vida a la humanidad). Solo después de que una semilla se entierra en el suelo puede convertirse en una planta y dar fruto. De lo contrario, sigue siendo solo una semilla que no cumple su propósito. Jesús, como el grano de trigo nos recuerdan el significado de su muerte y su vida. La Carta a los Hebreos, menciona que aprendió obediencia de lo que sufrió. El fruto y el beneficio de su muerte en sacrificio de una vez por todas en la cruz es nuestra comunión con Dios para la vida eterna.

Durante las próximas semanas, los recursos sobre la moralidad de las vacunas disponibles de la

Santa Sede, se publicarán aquí en este boletín para proporcionar información e iluminarnos sobre su uso con la única intención de responder a algunas de sus preguntas e inquietudes. Entiendo, algunos de ustedes permanecen indecisos y vacilantes acerca de vacunarse por cualquier motivo. Es su elección personal, pero las vacunas son descubrimientos modernos diseñados para proteger el carácter sagrado de la vida. Por lo tanto, es un deber personal y comunitario protegerse a sí mismo y a los demás de esta enfermedad mortal. Escucho esto todo el tiempo, nadie está a salvo hasta que todos están a salvo.

Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies… Embrace death for life

The Fifth Sunday of Lent, the First Sunday of the Passion, a week before Palm Sunday and Holy Week, draws us closer to the heart and soul of the liturgical year. And so, it is but fitting to focus our attention to the gospel that signals the impending passion and death of Jesus and the fruits of the resurrection (renewal and mission) that will come out of it employing the language of agricul-ture and the metaphor of seed, “Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat but if it dies, it produces much fruit.” In this entire scenario, Jesus announced the prediction of his death and resurrection, a touchstone of Christianity. It provides the guiding light of Christian life. This passage tells us that death may be necessary but not always the end nor the finality. We go through death, as a rite of passage and fundamental change without losing our identity. The pandemic has exposed both the weakness of humanity in a global and local level but also shown us the greatness and bravery of our fellows. “Whoever loves his life loses it, and who-ever hates his life in this world will preserve it for eternal life.” It is on this occasion that the Holy Father Pope Francis declared 2021 as the year dedicated to St. Joseph, Husband of the Blessed Vir-gin Mary, Patron and Protector of the Universal Church. He was the second greatest saint next to the Blessed Mother. Devotion to him didn’t start until sometime in the 10th century. He appeared only five times in the gospels: the Annunciation, the Nativity, the presentation of the child Jesus in the Temple, as a refugee to Egypt and the losing and finding of Jesus in the Jerusalem. He was a saint who never left any writings or words to hold on during difficult times. He didn’t say anything not a single word ever. So, don’t feel bad if you have no writing abilities and speaking skills. Those are secondary in ministry. What is primary is sanctity and service. His work was behind the scenes. He lived in the shadows. He is the embodiment of ministers who don’t talk much but work hard whose motive is not for personal acclaim but labor of love (lots of them). The year of St. Joseph is a stark reminder to those who love to talk and write (all words) but don’t get things done (no action). 2021 is a celebration of the unnoticed, discreet, prudent and hidden gem of our lives as exemplified by St. Joseph. He was a dreamer. He dreamed dreams and saw visions. We may not realize because of modern scientific discovery but God talks to us in our dreams, in our subconscious. Who knows his most important message and revelation will come to us via our dreams. Following the an-nouncement of the Angel who appeared to him in a dream, he only had a few hours to discern and decide whether to take to heart the angel’s words or go with his personal plan. St. Joseph repre-sents the numerous men and women working behind the limelight, un-appreciated in parish com-munities and all aspects of church life. Below is the concluding prayer of the Novena to St. Joseph taken from the Apostolic Letter: Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. To you God entrusted his only Son; in you Mary placed her trust; with you Christ became man. Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself a father and guide us in the path of life. Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage, and de-fend us from every evil. Amen.

Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies… Embrace death for life

As you know, the Philippine Church is celebrating 500 years of Christianity with 1521 at its beginning. It is nearly impossible to understand the culture and its people without looking at the past (333 years of Spanish occupation). Philippines was founded by missionaries (religious people), not merchants. Although there were lots of resistance, the Spanish missionaries converted the natives not through guns, force and violence. It has grown as a nation that is heavily immersed, shaped and formed by Christian doctrine with special emphasis on devotions: the Holy Infant of Jesus, the Black Nazarene, among others. The natives whose religion was Muslim and pagan saw for themselves the beauty and grandeur of Christianity and its mysteries which became the driving force in their conversion to Catholicism. Filipinos are normally shy (for the first five minutes), courteous and respectful especially of authority. Religious life is deeply embedded in the life of a Filipino. Although, I should say, it is slowly embracing the secularized world due to the strong western influence marked by globalization. We don’t argue about God and with God. God exists as the supreme and supernatural being who created the world. We didn’t learn Spanish much unlike Mexico and Latin America because the missionaries preferred to go the difficult route, that is, learn and develop the strange native/tribal languages of the people which at that time, had no grammar, literature, etc. The missionaries learned the language by daily interaction with people. Many of the missionaries (lay and ordained trained for missionary activity) died on their journey (many of them unknown whose names never made it to the memorials) to the archipelago because of famine and disease. I thought that the un- matched dedication of the evangelizers in the 16th and 17th centuries is noteworthy.

Our reflection this Sunday leads us to say that, without people prepared to die for the lived experience of faith, there is no such thing as Christianity. Christianity is marked by dying and rising. We have seen this whole pattern in the paschal triduum (Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ).

None of us sits in our couches all day and get fed. We are and have been in the labor force. We are engaged in the daily grind of life. Only some or few live a carefree privileged life. We face crisis. We worry a lot. We’re anxious, fearful and resilient. We fail, get up and grow. Successful people tell us, they failed not once but many times. The seed of grain that is preserved and tries to be self-sufficient must die (not an option) before it can bear fruit. It is the nature of a seed to be buried on the ground before transformation takes place. It undergoes a profound change (loses itself along the way) yet, it doesn’t lose its identity and in fact, brings and affirms life in a new context. Once, a parishioner who was moving out gave me all her plants. One of the plants was a grain of wheat, a seed that is recently planted and buried in the pot. It disappeared but came back alive ready to share life. In order to be a Christian and for life to be meaningful and effective, one must pass the difficult process from death to life. This is evident in the ritual of baptism. In community living, we immerse ourselves (a form of dying) and be part of a larger group with shared interests, hopes and visions.

Death must precede life. The seed that does not fall to the ground and dies remains and abides alone. Risks are involved. If we never face any crisis in life, that means, we have never grown. If we never had enemies, that means, we never stood for anything.

No religious person, in his or her right mind, stay neutral on faith and moral issues. Death is a prerequisite to life. Fasting is not a burden. it is a necessity. The Stations of the Cross is a far-cry to the struggles faced in life. In just a little over a week, Lent (the lengthening of time and season) will come to an end. In the forty days, did you ever die to and for something worth dying and fighting for? What was your experience of repentance? Did you break your daily routine by quieting yourself for 5-10-15 minutes? What was your interior preparation before coming to Mass? Did you do any sort of preparation at all? We are doing this for holiness’ sake which will take us to life eternal. Amen.

R E F L E X I Ó N La primera lectura (Jeremías 31,31-34) nos presenta un fragmento del conjunto literario (capítulos 30-33) conocido como el libro de la consolación. El profeta Jeremías protagoniza la dramática situación que enfrenta el pueblo de Israel ante la inminente invasión del poder de Babilonia. En ese momento de tensiones y desesperanzas para el pueblo de Dios, el profeta fortalece el espíritu de sus compatriotas, animándolos a permanecer fieles a la alianza y anunciándoles que Dios permanecerá firme a sus promesas de salvación. Este libro es una invitación a fortalecer sus esperanzas y una llamada a la responsabilidad individual y comunitaria como pueblo escogido. No deben olvidar su identidad como pueblo de la Alianza, en quien Dios escribirá su Ley, ya no en piedras, sino en sus corazones. La alianza pactada en el Sinaí será renovada y les infundirá un nuevo conocimiento para amar a Dios y su Ley. Este conocimiento de Dios, no será fundada en una experiencia de ritos ni sacrificios vacíos, sino en una experiencia nueva de Dios. Será una experiencia de amor y misericordia, manifestada en la justicia y en la compasión para con el prójimo. Dios pondrá en sus corazones (leb en hebreo) su Ley, es decir, pondrá en ellos un amor entrañable, con los sentimientos mas sublimes que brotarán de lo más profundo de su ser. El conocimiento de Dios, no será solamente intelectual, racional, sino que el Espíritu de Dios regirá sus pensamientos, deseos, sentimientos y acciones. La Ley del Espíritu manará en sus almas, guiándolos hacia la verdadera libertad.

La segunda lectura (Hebreos 5,7-9) no presenta a Jesús, como Sumo Sacerdote que puede librarnos del pecado. Es el único Sacerdote perfecto escogido por Dios, como lo fue Aarón, pero no según el “orden” heredado a la tribu de Levi. El sacerdocio de Melquisedec, es figura del sacerdocio de Cristo, el cual es perfecto.

Jesús por su obediencia al Padre se anonadó a si mismo tomando la condición de siervo. Dios Padre lo perfeccionó a través del sufrimiento, en la obediencia, haciendo del sacrificio de Cristo, la más perfecta ofrenda. Cristo como Sacerdote, ofreció día a día, oraciones y sacrificios agradables al Padre, intercediendo por la salvación de la humanidad. Se ofreció a si mismo en sacrificio redentor en el altar de la Cruz, en obediencia al Padre. En humildad y obediencia por amor al Padre, Jesús venció la muerte y nos ganó salvación. Como pueblo de bautizados, nosotros en nuestro sacerdocio común también estamos llamados a ofrendarnos a Dios como un sacrificio vivo y santo agradable a su presencia, viviendo su divina voluntad, en humildad y amor, en su servicio y en el de nuestros semejantes.

Nosotros somos radicalmente impotentes para ello, pero unidos a Jesús y con el poder de su Espíritu Santo, podemos poner en sus manos nuestra voluntad y decidir escoger lo que su Hijo siempre ha escogido: hacer lo que agrada al Padre (CIC 2825).

El pasaje del evangelio de Juan (Jn 12, 20-33) se debe ver en su conjunto. La visión teoló-gica propia del evangelista nos presenta la salvación, como una unidad cristológica, esca-tológica y soteriológica, la cual está centrada en la persona de Jesucristo, en su pasión, muerte y resurrección. Esto, en la teología joanina, se refiere a la exaltación y glorificación de Jesús.

La perícopa inicia con la presencia de unos griegos que quieren ver a Jesús. No se trata de prosélitos propiamente, sino de algunos devotos y temerosos de Dios. Felipe fue el instrumento para hacerlos llegar ante Jesús. Tomás de Aquino nos comenta que: “Se evidencia así la piadosa apertura de los pueblos gentiles a Cristo por cuanto que desean verle. Hemos de saber, sin embargo, que Cristo sólo ha predicado personalmente a los judíos, mientras que serán los apóstoles los que prediquen a los pueblos de la gentilidad. Eso queda aquí ya claro, puesto que los gentiles, que quieren ver a Jesús, no se llegan a él directamente, sino a uno de los discípulos, a Felipe” Enseguida Jesús habla sobre su hora. “Ha llegado la hora en que el Hijo del hombre ha de ser glorificado”. Esta frase: “Ha llegado la hora” es muy significativa en el evangelio de Juan. “La hora” se refiere a su muerte, pero también a su glorificación. Por lo tanto, para San Juan, la cruz de Jesús es el lugar donde reinará y dominará las fuerzas del mal. La cruz donde morirá Jesús no será el lugar de derrota, sino de victoria del Hombre-Dios muriendo como, el grano de trigo, para generar vida en abundancia. Es por amor sublime y excelso hacia la humanidad, que libremente se entrega para derramar su sangre. Para San Juan, la cruz no representa el fracaso de Jesús, sino la entrega libre y voluntaria de un hombre-Dios que nos ama tanto que es capaz de darnos su vida, derramando hasta la última gota de su sangre, para pagar el precio de nuestras transgresiones hacia Dios. La metáfora del trigo es muy significativa, porque la semilla hace referencia a la vida, la fuerza interior que suscita el crecimiento, el proceso de maduración que culmina en la fecundidad. La semilla al morir, empieza todo un proceso para generar fruto. Todos los que hemos aceptado a Jesús como nuestro Dios y Señor, estamos llamados a darle nuestra vida, muriendo al pecado. Dios nos invita a ofrecerle sacrificios agradables basados en el amor santo, en la compasión y la misericordia hacia nuestros semejantes. Este acto de generosidad requiere morir en la cruz de la humildad, obediencia y amor. A Dios lo glorificamos no solamente de palabras sino con nuestros pensamientos, sentimientos deseos y acciones. Sabemos también que nuestros sacrificios y sufrimientos unidos a los de Jesús no son en vano.

NOTE ON THE MORALITY OF USING SOME ANTI-COVID-19 VACCINES The question of the use of vaccines, in general, is often at the center of controversy in the forum of public opinion. In recent months, this Congregation has received several requests for guidance regarding the use of vaccines against the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes Covid-19, which, in the course of research and production, employed cell lines drawn from tissue obtained

from two abortions that occurred in the last century. At the same time, diverse and sometimes conflicting pronouncements in the mass media by bishops, Catholic associations, and experts have raised questions about the morality of the use of these

vaccines. Since the first vaccines against Covid-19 are already available for distribution and administration in various countries, this

Congregation desires to offer some indications for clarification of this matter. We do not intend to judge the safety and efficacy of these vaccines, although ethically relevant and necessary, as this evaluation is the responsibility of biomedical researchers and drug agencies. Here, our objective is only to consider the moral aspects of the use of the vaccines against

Covid-19 that have been developed from cell lines derived from tissues obtained from two fetuses that were not spontaneously aborted.

• As the Instruction Dignitas Personae states, in cases where cells from aborted fetuses are employed to create cell lines for use in scientific research, “there exist differing degrees of responsibility” of cooperation in evil. For example, “in

organizations where cell lines of illicit origin are being utilized, the responsibility of those who make the decision to use them is not the same as that of those who have no voice in such a decision”.

• In this sense, when ethically irreproachable Covid-19 vaccines are not available (e.g. in countries where vaccines without ethical problems are not made available to physicians and patients, or where their distribution is more difficult due to

special storage and transport conditions, or when various types of vaccines are distributed in the same country but health authorities do not allow citizens to choose the vaccine with which to be inoculated) it is morally acceptable to receive

Covid-19 vaccines that have used cell lines from aborted fetuses in their research and production process.

• The fundamental reason for considering the use of these vaccines morally licit is that the kind of cooperation in evil (passive material cooperation) in the procured abortion from which these cell lines originate is, on the part of those

making use of the resulting vaccines, remote. The moral duty to avoid such passive material cooperation is not obligatory if there is a grave danger, such as the otherwise uncontainable spread of a serious pathological agent[3]--in this case, the pandemic spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes Covid-19. It must therefore be considered that, in such a case, all

vaccinations recognized as clinically safe and effective can be used in good conscience with the certain knowledge that the use of such vaccines does not constitute formal cooperation with the abortion from which the cells used in production of

the vaccines derive. It should be emphasized, however, that the morally licit use of these types of vaccines, in the particular conditions that make it so, does not in itself constitute a legitimation, even indirect, of the practice of abortion,

and necessarily assumes the opposition to this practice by those who make use of these vaccines.

• In fact, the licit use of such vaccines does not and should not in any way imply that there is a moral endorsement of the use of cell lines proceeding from aborted fetuses.[4] Both pharmaceutical companies and governmental health agencies

are therefore encouraged to produce, approve, distribute and offer ethically acceptable vaccines that do not create problems of conscience for either health care providers or the people to be vaccinated.

• At the same time, practical reason makes evident that vaccination is not, as a rule, a moral obligation and that, therefore, it must be voluntary. In any case, from the ethical point of view, the morality of vaccination depends not only on the duty to protect one's own health, but also on the duty to pursue the common good. In the absence of other means to stop or even prevent the epidemic, the common good may recommend vaccination, especially to protect the weakest and most exposed. Those who, however, for reasons of conscience, refuse vaccines produced with cell lines from aborted fetuses,

must do their utmost to avoid, by other prophylactic means and appropriate behavior, becoming vehicles for the transmission of the infectious agent. In particular, they must avoid any risk to the health of those who cannot be

vaccinated for medical or other reasons, and who are the most vulnerable.

• Finally, there is also a moral imperative for the pharmaceutical industry, governments and international organizations to ensure that vaccines, which are effective and safe from a medical point of view, as well as ethically acceptable, are also

accessible to the poorest countries in a manner that is not costly for them. The lack of access to vaccines, otherwise, would become another sign of discrimination and injustice that condemns poor countries to continue living in health,

economic and social poverty.

NOTA SOBRE LA MORALIDAD DEL USO DE ALGUNAS VACUNAS CONTRA LA COVID-19

La cuestión sobre el uso de las vacunas, en general, suele estar en el centro de insistentes debates en la opinión pública. En los últimos meses, han llegado a esta Congregación varias peticiones de una opinión sobre el uso de algunas vacunas contra el virus SARS-CoV-2, causante de la Covid-19, desarrolladas recurriendo, en el proceso de investigación y producción, a líneas

celulares que provienen de tejidos obtenidos de dos abortos ocurridos en el siglo pasado. Al mismo tiempo, se han producido diversas declaraciones en los medios de comunicación por parte de Obispos, Asociaciones Católicas y Expertos, diferentes

entre sí y a veces contradictorias, que también han planteado dudas sobre la moralidad del uso de estas vacunas. Dado que están ya disponibles, para su distribución y administración en diversos países, las primeras vacunas contra la Covid-

19, esta Congregación desea ofrecer algunas indicaciones que clarifiquen este tema. No se pretende juzgar la seguridad y eficacia de estas vacunas, aun siendo éticamente relevante y necesario, porque su evaluación es competencia de los

investigadores biomédicos y las agencias para los medicamentos, sino únicamente reflexionar sobre el aspecto moral del uso de aquellas vacunas contra la Covid-19 que se han desarrollado con líneas celulares procedentes de tejidos obtenidos de dos

fetos abortados no espontáneamente.

• Como se afirma en la Instrucción Dignitas Personae, en los casos en los que se utilicen células de fetos abortados para crear líneas celulares para su uso en la investigación científica, “existen diferentes grados de responsabilidad”[1] en la

cooperación al mal. Por ejemplo, “en las empresas que utilizan líneas celulares de origen ilícito no es idéntica la responsabilidad de quienes deciden la orientación de la producción y la de aquellos que no tienen poder de decisión”.

• En este sentido, cuando no estén disponibles vacunas Covid-19 éticamente irreprochables (por ejemplo, en países en los que no se ponen a disposición de médicos y pacientes vacunas sin problemas éticos o en los que su distribución es más

difícil debido a las condiciones especiales de almacenamiento y transporte, o cuando se distribuyen varios tipos de vacunas en el mismo país pero, por parte de las autoridades sanitarias, no se 5permite a los ciudadanos elegir la vacuna

que se va a inocular) es moralmente aceptable utilizar las vacunas contra la Covid-19 que han utilizado líneas celulares de fetos abortados en su proceso de investigación y producción.

• La razón fundamental para considerar moralmente lícito el uso de estas vacunas es que el tipo de cooperación al mal (cooperación material pasiva) del aborto provocado del que proceden estas mismas líneas celulares, por parte quienes utilizan las vacunas resultantes, es remota. El deber moral de evitar esa cooperación material pasiva no es vinculante si

existe un peligro grave, como la propagación, por lo demás incontenible, de un agente patógeno grave:[3] en este caso, la propagación pandémica del virus SARS-CoV-2 que causa la Covid-19. Por consiguiente, debe considerarse que, en este

caso, pueden utilizarse todas las vacunas reconocidas como clínicamente seguras y eficaces con conciencia cierta que el recurso a tales vacunas no significa una cooperación formal con el aborto del que se obtuvieron las células con las que las vacunas han sido producidas. Sin embargo, se debe subrayar que el uso moralmente lícito de este tipo de vacunas, debido a las condiciones especiales que lo posibilitan, no puede constituir en sí mismo una legitimación, ni siquiera indirecta, de

la práctica del aborto, y presupone la oposición a esta práctica por parte de quienes recurren a estas vacunas.

• De hecho, el uso lícito de esas vacunas no implica ni debe implicar en modo alguno la aprobación moral del uso de líneas celulares procedentes de fetos abortados.[4] Por lo tanto, se pide tanto a las empresas farmacéuticas como a los

organismos sanitarios gubernamentales, que produzcan, aprueben, distribuyan y ofrezcan vacunas éticamente aceptables que no creen problemas de conciencia, ni al personal sanitario ni a los propios vacunados.

• Al mismo tiempo, es evidente para la razón práctica que la vacunación no es, por regla general, una obligación moral y que, por lo tanto, la vacunación debe ser voluntaria. En cualquier caso, desde un punto de vista ético, la moralidad de la

vacunación depende no sólo del deber de proteger la propia salud, sino también del deber de perseguir el bien común.Bien que, a falta de otros medios para detener o incluso prevenir la epidemia, puede hacer recomendable la vacunación, especialmente para proteger a los más débiles y más expuestos. Sin embargo, quienes, por razones de

conciencia, rechazan las vacunas producidas a partir de líneas celulares procedentes de fetos abortados, deben tomar las medidas, con otros medios profilácticos y con un comportamiento adecuado, para evitar que se conviertan en vehículos de transmisión del agente infeccioso. En particular, deben evitar cualquier riesgo para la salud de quienes no pueden ser

vacunados por razones médicas o de otro tipo y que son los más vulnerables.

• Por último, existe también un imperativo moral para la industria farmacéutica, los gobiernos y las organizaciones internacionales, garantizar que las vacunas, eficaces y seguras desde el punto de vista sanitario, y éticamente aceptables,

sean también accesibles a los países más pobres y sin un coste excesivo para ellos. La falta de acceso a las vacunas se convertiría, de algún modo, en otra forma de discriminación e injusticia que condenaría a los países pobres a seguir

viviendo en la indigencia sanitaria, económica y social.

Este protocolo actualizado es muy importante para nuestra seguridad: cubre bocas, desinfección de manos, sin contacto físico, es decir, una inclinación en la señal de la paz.

• MISAS DIARIAS...La Santa Comunión, para aquellos que asisten a la Misa en persona, será administrada, afuera, después de la Misa, en la mano solamente.

INMACULADA CONCEPCIÓN

• OFICINAS PARROQUIALES... abrirán parcialmente de lunes a viernes, de 9 am—1 pm.

• FUNERALES Y BODAS… capacidad de las Iglesias igual que los domingos

• JUNTOS O REUNIONES…. se permiten si que hayan sido vacunados, y poniendo la misma atención al protocolo de seguridad – cubre bocas, 6’ de distancia social, uso de desinfectante de manos.

English or Spanish. Once class is completed, verified, and the

Wednesday of each month in English & the 4th Wednesday of each

The Immaculate Conception/St. Luke Conference of St. Vincent de Paul continues to thank everyone who is so generously supporting us. Recently we have been dealing with citizens in the community who have been leaving their trash and unusable

“donations” in our parking lot. We take gently used furniture, clothing, working appliances and household items, Monday – Friday from 10:30 to 2:30. We do not take mattresses or books at this time as we have no room to store them.

Last October we collaborated with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona in providing a space for their Free Mobile Substance Use Clinic which is held monthly in our parking lot. We pray this clinic will provide the support and assistance needed by many in

the community dealing with drugs and other medical issues. With the support of Chiricahua Community Health preventive medical screenings, HIV and Hepatitis C screening and free Naloxone are made available at the clinic. Look for them on the 3rd

Thursday of the month. Because of this agreement with BCBS, and generous donations from the McCleve and Fleming families we have been able to update our kitchen. We have recently purchased a new prep table, refrigerator and freezer and

will soon purchase a new stove. We continue to serve lunch on M, W, and F from 11am to 12noon for anyone in need of a meal and provide food boxes monthly.

La institución Inmaculada Concepción/San Lucas de San Vicente De Paul continua agradeciendo a todos los que generosamente nos apoyan. Recientemente hemos tenido que tratar con ciudadanos de la comunidad que han dejado en

nuestro estacionamiento basura y “donaciones” que no están en buenas condiciones. Aceptamos muebles, ropa, electrodomésticos que estén en condiciones, lunes a Viernes de 10:30 a 2:30. En este momento no estamos aceptando

colchones ni libros, pues no tenemos suficiente espacio. En Octubre pasado colaboramos con Blue Cross Blue Shield de Arizona dándoles un espacio en nuestro estacionamiento para su clínica móvil de asistencia para el uso de substancias los cuales vienen cada mes. Oramos para que la clínica pueda apoyar y asistir a los muchos necesitados en la comunidad que están enfrentando problemas con drogas y otros problemas médicos. Con el apoyo de la Comunidad de Salud de Chiricahua están disponibles exámenes médicos preventivos, de HIV y hepatitis C,

CCD KICKS OFF! Classes are scheduled varied days during the week for one hour each week. Homework will be assigned. There will be no in-person gatherings—all classes will be virtual.

Each teacher will have specific instructions for his / her class. A schedule of classes will be included in the packet each student receives, along with prayers

• CCD classes continue this week. Parents, we thank you for your diligence in

logging your child in before the class closes. As an added reminder, one of the other responsibilities is picking up the homework packets on Sunday and returning them completed the next Sunday.

• The Holy Week Mass schedule is in the bulletin. Please take note of the seating limitations, and remember the safety protocol is still in effect, i.e. face masks, hand sanitizing, 6’ social distancing. All Masses will be open to the public and also live streamed. Please know the Mass dispensation is in effect indefinitely and the Masses within the octave of Easter count as your participation at Easter Mass.

• Our Lenten Night of Worship is Wednesday, March 24, 6 pm, St. Luke. There will be Exposition, Adoration, Confessions, Songs of worship and praise, and Benediction.

• As Easter fasts approaches, our three parishes are offering you, our parish faithful, the opportunity to adorn our Sanctuaries and worship spaces with the beauty of the Easter lily. The donation is $12.00 per plant with the inclusion of the name of your loved one, living or deceased, with each purchase. The names of the intentions will be printed in the Easter edition of the bulletin and read aloud before the start of each Easter Mass. Please make your wishes known to us no later than Wednesday, March 31.

• There are several Lenten spiritual exercises available on formed.org for which you may take advantage and explore.

• Confessions continue this week—Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at either St. Luke or Immaculate Conception, some days, both parishes. Check the bulletin for exact times and locations. Kindly remember we will not have a Lenten Penance service this year, so if you need to fulfill your Easter obligation, take advantage of one of these days or the last two opportunities will be Holy Tuesday and Holy Wednesday.
