Denmark. Clubs from Spain, Englandand Italy traditionally travel to the eventin impressive numbers. On this occa-sion, the Porsche Club Norway alsoput in an impressive showing. Fiveyears ago, around 20 members wouldusually attend. On this weekend, how-ever, around 90 of the current approx.850 members of the Norwegian Clubmade their way to the Nürburgring.Over 40 of these drove all the way, such as Fredrik Christensen with his924 Carrera GT. “The route coveredprecisely 1,012 kilometres” he an-nounced with pride. His orange T-shirtalso proclaimed the reason for thelarge number of Porsche drivers fromthe north: Porsche Club Norway – 25thAnniversary.” Club President SteinarSalminen explained why the Club hadchosen to commemorate its anniver-sary at the OGP: “Because we partic-ularly like this event.” This view isclearly also shared by many others.

was positioned opposite the hospitali-ty tent. And in front of this, two Porschetractors were posted. But that was cer-tainly not all. Employees of Porschepartner companies, such as the shockabsorber manufacturer Koni or thesealant specialists Elring Klinger werealso on hand to answer questions. Aparticular highlight, in the literal senseof the word, was provided by Porsche’slogistics partner Hendricks. The ship-ping agent brought along a crane, towhich a viewing platform was hooked. In return for a donation to the Stuttgart-based charitable association “Herz-sport e.V.”, visitors were able to enterthe platform and were lifted to a heightof between 35 and 40 in the air. “It isonly from up here that the sheer sizeof the Porsche site really becomesapparent,” said a member of thePorsche Club Italy.

International Porsche 914 Meeting

Interest in this meeting, held from 17to 19 June 2005 in Essen, was tremen-dous: 105 participants were counted, and a total of 53 vehicles. These camefrom Germany, Belgium, England,France, the Netherlands, Switzerland,Spain and Portugal. A Porsche 914enthusiast from California even man-aged to take part.

And it was certainly worth the effort. On the first day we undertook a torch-lit tour in the dusk through Duisburg’slandscape park. Many of the partici-pants were both surprised as well asfascinated that such old, disusedindustrial plants had been kept as his-torical monuments, instead of simplybeing demolished. Particularly impres-

sive was the view from a 70 metre tower across the countless industrialrelics in the surrounding area.

The next day saw a visit to Dekra, where the participants were able tohave their vehicle’s shock absorberstested. The subsequent tour of Essen’ssurroundings, whose beautiful land-scape clearly took many of the partic-ipants by surprise, was interspersedwith dexterity exercises and quiz ques-tions. The evening began with a Cham-pagne reception, and later a discoprovided an opportunity to burn up anyremaining energy in dance.

On the final day of the event, partici-pants made their way to the Porsche

Centre Essen, where a tour was pro-vided. This also enabled a participantfrom Portugal to get some necessaryrepairs to his vehicle. Thanks to numer-ous sponsors, who supported usactively or with prizes for the tombola, the tremendous weather and the fan-tastic programme, this 914 meetingwas a complete success.
