In 1949, the Vilseck Post was placed under the command of Seventh Army and became the Seventh Army Tank Training Center. Even though troop billeting and classrooms were primarily located near Vilseck, the Tank Training Center also operated special tank ranges in the Grafenwoehr area. Then, in February 1958, the Tank Training Center was re-designated as the Seventh Army Training Center, with headquarters at Vilseck. The entire Grafenwoehr reservation, which included the Grafenwoehr and ViIseck Sub-Posts, became one training center. In 1959, a newly remodeled Grafenwoehr Post became the headquarters of the Seventh Army Training Center. With the re-establishment of Grafenwoehr as the headquarters of the new Seventh Army Training Center, a number of other changes also took place. The area near Vilseck became the Seventh Army Combined Arms School, and at the same time, the Hohenfels Training Area, about 41 miles southwest of Grafenwoehr, with 40,000 acres, was assigned to the new Training Center. Thus, the Seventh Army Training Center became the largest training complex in Western Germany. The year 1970 saw still another move toward combining the training facilities of the U.S. Soldier in Europe under one major headquarters. Kimbro Kaserne, near Murnau, began to phase out and in November, the Officer and NCO Maintenance Supervisor’s Courses were moved to Vilseck. With this move, the Seventh Army Combined Arms School was re-designated as the USAREUR Combined Arms Training Center (CATC) on 01 July 1971. Another page in the book of the Seventh Army Training Center's constantly expanding support role was added in 1973 with the announcement that it would assume the support and command roles for all USAREUR individual training activities in Europe. Combat support courses from the Combat Support Training Center, Oberammergau, were moved to ViIseck.Source: 7th ATC PAO

Final Mission: The 7ATC Combined Arms Training Center (CATC) is the institutional training organization that facilitates and coordinates training programs to meet USAREUR training requirements and operational gaps.   Final Vision: The Combined Arms Training Center will be an Institute of Excellence designed and organized to meet the training requirements of the Soldiers of the future.   Final Main Efforts:Modernization: Modernize education and training by deliberately updating the capability of facilities to meet the Enterprise Classroom Standards, emphasizing professional development of the faculty, enhancement of course material, and improving course delivery systems. Compliance: Conduct quality courses through compliance with US Army and USAREUR Regulations, US Army and NATO quality assurance programs, and the integration of the instructor competencies and evaluation processes, both formative and summative. Innovation: Spur innovation through inspired instructors, modern classrooms, meaningful content, and engaged students.   Final Endstate: CATC is an internationally recognized Institute of Excellence that has modernized its instructional systems and delivery methods to provide the latest in educational content. CATC courses allow students to rapidly develop critical skills and upon graduation become an SME with reach back to training materials and expert instructors. CATC uses learner-centric instruction practices to promote interactive and collaborative curricula that prepare Soldiers to fight and win on the battlefields of 2025 and beyond. The Soldier of the future demands these actions, as they are digital natives who must be team-focused, and who cannot be displaced from their units for long periods for individual training. Today’s Soldiers are digital natives who rely on digital technology to socialize, learn, and defeat the enemy. By 2022, CATC will modernize its instructional techniques and delivery methods to effectively deliver the latest, most relevant content. CATC courses will prepare students to rapidly implement important skills and upon return to their units, provide reach back to CATC instructors for their expertise in their respective fields. CATC will develop learner centric instruction techniques to promote curricula that encourages engaging and collaborative learning environments to prepare Soldiers to fight and win on the battlefields of 2022 and beyond. A vision statement, is according to Burt Nanus who wrote “Visionary Leadership”: 1. Future oriented; 2. Likely to lead to a better future for the organization – that is, it fits the organization’s history and culture 3. Reflects the organization’s values 4. Sets standards of excellence 5. Clarifies the organization’s purpose and direction 6. Inspires enthusiasm and commitment 7. Reflects the uniqueness of the organization 8. Ambitious 9. A bold Vision has a Finish line or conclusion vs. a mission for an organization which is timeless 10. A bold vision acknowledges where we are today, and presents an idea of where to go next. It’s a simple, deliberate statement of what the future could be. Ex. JFK moon landing: “I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to Earth.” Ex2. Henry Ford: “I will build a car for the great multitude. It will be large enough for the family, but small enough for the individual to run and care for. It will be constructed of the best materials, by the best men to be hired, after the simplest designs that modern engineering can devise. But it will be so low in price that no man making a good salary will be unable to own one.” Version 1. By 2022 CATC will modernize instructional techniques and delivery methods to effectively deliver the latest, most relevant content to Soldiers who are digital natives, who must be collaborative, and who can’t afford to be away from their units for long periods of time. CATC courses will prepare students to rapidly implement new important skills and provide reach back capabilities to instructors who have priceless experience for those tips and tricks that will American along with our allied and partner-future Soldiers lethal on the battle fields of 2022 and beyond. Version 2. By 2022 Soldiers may not fight in space, but they will have at least 100 times the computing power needed to send a crew to the moon and back--in their pockets. Today, Soldiers play sophisticated video games that require the same kind of collaboration, coordination, and preparation needed to lead real infantry squads on the battlefield. Fourteen year old kids are already more capable in many respects than our most seasoned Soldiers of years past. In 2019, kids learn as much from YouTube as they do their teachers, and so CATC will re-direct instructional delivery methods to promote collaboration and to prepare Soldiers to fight and win on the battlefields of tomorrow. Version 3. By 2022 Soldiers may not fight in space, but they will have far greater computing power needed to send a crew to the moon and back--in their pockets. Today, Soldiers are digital natives who think it normal to play sophisticated computer games with kids on the other side of the world. Those games require the same kind of collaboration, coordination, and communication needed to lead real infantry squads on the battlefield. Fourteen year old kids are already more capable in many respects than our most seasoned Soldiers of years past. Additionally in 2019, kids learn as much from YouTube as they do their teachers, and so CATC will re-direct instruction to meet how Soldiers are accustomed to learning and we will design curriculum that is engaging and promotes collaboration to prepare Soldiers to fight and win on the battlefields of 2022 and beyond. Version 4. Fifteen year old kids are the future Soldiers of 2022. They spend time with their friends by communicating through their phones or through sophisticated computer games like Fortnite or Call of Duty. They do not know a world where printed books are the norm. By 2022 CATC will engage students the way they learn best, through technology and collaboration rather than trying to force them to learn the way kids did in the 1940’s. Soldiers of the 2022 may not wear space suit-like uniforms, but they will be educated to effectively and efficiently protect American interests on the battlefields of the future. Technology can facilitate learning from the best instructors anywhere, any time of day, and to anyone.

Whether you are a Property Book Officer or in the Unit Supply room, you are responsible for managing, conducting and completing inventories in GCSS-Army. Using the Organizational Supply business area concept, GCSS-Army brings the operations of these two functional areas closer together through the use of centralized data and a common system. A single, shared system, helps remove pre-existing barriers to equipment visibility. Eliminates the need to manually interface with multiple systems to transfer information across business areas. Within GCSS-Army, Organizational Supply represents a special integration that enables Property Book and Supply roles to see and operate on the same real-time data. This creates greater efficiency and accuracy across organizational lines--one version of the "truth."

Prerequisites: All students will complete the GCSS-Army Training and Certification system (GTRAC) web-based training (WBT) prior to reporting to Combined Arms Training Center (CATC) sponsored resident GCSS-Army training. Assigned or scheduled for assignment as primary Unit Supply, including military and civilian supply personnel, supervisors, technicians, and staff responsible for Unit Supply operations. Warrant Officers with PMOS of 920B or equivalent Commissioned Logistics Officers and Enlisted personnel holding PMOS 92Y and 920A.

Leader Development Course (LDC)Description: The course enhances the capability of Soldiers to recognize, in self and others, the key factors of optimal performance, and develop the ability to apply and communicate specific mental techniques designed to maximize mental strength and set the conditions for consistently high levels of performance. This course focuses on the underlying knowledge and mental competencies (i.e., motivation, attention control, confidence and energy management) required for self-awareness and self-regulation, which are necessary conditions for leaders to be able to think critically and creatively. This approach specifically targets the "BE" aspects of BE, KNOW, DO. The vast majority of Soldiers notice that those leaders that they admire most are most often a result of "Who" they are as a person and "How" they are as a person, rather than what they do. This course will provide an opportunity to broaden understanding, and learn the practical skills for developing and honing the "BE" mental and emotional attributes. By the conclusion of the course, Soldiers will have created a Portfolio of personalized mental skills to apply to an upcoming performance. In addition, the course provides a specific method for continual influence of their developed philosophy of excellence, executable within "coachable moments" found in training with peers and subordinates. Leaders teach, coach and mentor. Lastly, the outcome of this course is to rapidly evolve the next generation of junior leaders, so that they perform far beyond their given experience and training.

Prerequisites: Attendees must be E4(P)/E5 or higher, preferably in a leadership position. E4-E6; O1-O2 (Target Audience) but leaders of any rank are welcome.

Battlefield Staff Ride (BSR)Description: Battlefield staff rides furnish commanders a unique and powerful leadership development tool, which enables them to accomplish a range of objectives benefitting the United States Army and the Unites Army in Europe in the long and short term. Battlefield staff rides use battlefields as a metaphor to illuminate and improve current and future activities, including United States Army leadership and leader performance in a variety of ways. Successful battlefield staff rides require combining three elements: the intellectual, including factual details of combat sequence, time, and chronology, presented in a variety of compelling and stimulating ways (written, spoken visual); the physical, actually visiting past battlefields (on the ground in a variety of ways); and the emotional, to provoke an awareness and understanding of the impact of past combat on soldiers in order to increase a powerful understanding of what really happened. These elements combine the training needs of the command and each particular unit in order to "turn yesterday into tomorrow".

Stryker Virtual Collective Trainer (SVCT)

Description: The SVCT allows Stryker platoons and dismounted infantry to operate as a collective system in force-on-force scenarios. The SVCT simulates the capabilities of a Stryker rifle (four vehicles, 45 infantryman) or scout platoon (six vehicles, 36 scouts) and their symbiotic relationship with the dismounted crew. The physical vehicle mock-up includes each key mounted crew position – driver, gunner, squad leader, and two air guards – with both “outside the hatch/unbuttoned” and “inside the hatch/buttoned” positions.

The simulators are equipped with a combination of authentic military gear, Xbox controllers, luxury gaming chairs, and foot pedals designed for racing games. The gunner’s seat comes directly from a Stryker vehicle and has a Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station or CROWS and joystick, allowing the Soldier to fire a virtual .50-caliber machine gun and, in some cases, virtual 30 mm autocannons.
