• Changes to Factory SetupsIn SW version 6.1+, QuickP Production includes new improved factory setups for your use. Thesesetups enable out-of the box quality using optimized resolutions and settings that cover most of youreveryday printing requirements.

The new factory setups support the new white base layer creation using the different white baselayer (underbase) ICC profiles.

A new set of setups have been added for printing on colored garments, which has increased thewhite opacity.

IMPORTANTPrevious setups will be supported after manual import only.

Perform printing with the imported values of spray and verify that the spray amount is optimal.Adjust, if required.

Contact your regional Kornit support office for details and best known methods.

• Improved White Layer CreationThe White controls enable you to optimize the quality of your image on a dark or black coloredmedia.

The management of white printing/settings has been improved from previous Kornit softwareversions; a new algorithm for white base creation improves the image quality.

The White pane is divided into the following sections:

• White Print Mode (unchanged)– Select an option:• None – White layers are not printed.

• Single – One layer of white color is printed, before the CMYK(RG) layer.• Double – Two layers of white color are printed, before the CMYK(RG) layer.

• Highlight Over Separate Layer: Select to enable adding an additional layer of white printedas a highlight.  Select the %white to print in this layer.

• Selected – Determines the amount of white printed with the CMYK(RG) in areas of theimage where the CMYK(RG) color opacity is between 0 and 5%.

• Cleared – White is printed together with the CMYK(RG).

• Whiteness Slider: Enables adjusting white color opacity. Depending on the white settings youselected, the slider defines the amount of white to be printed.

2  New Features 2

Page 3: 62-RELE-0065 Release Note SW Version 6.5 for HD Series ... · ReleaseNote-SWVersion6.5.4.4 Products:Avalanche1000,AvalancheHexa,Avalanche1000R-Series&AvalancheHexaR-Series PartNo.:62-RELE-0068

• Print White Areas check box (unchanged):• Selected – All white areas in the image are printed, including the white area surrounding the

image.

• Cleared – White layers, not covered by a CMYK(RG) layer, are not printed (for example, areas in which the top layer is white).

• Choke(unchanged): Increase the value to decrease the size of the white layer underneath theCMYK(RG) layer, thereby removing the slivers of white color that can appear along the edges ofthe CMYK(RG) layer. The “0” value indicates no change.

• Max White:TheMax White option here enables you to override the maximum white opacity set in themedia LUT file for the current job. Sometimes, more or less white is required. It does not changethe value set in the LUT file.

When theMax White is lowered, but you don’t want to lower so much the white in the midtoneareas, you can increase the white using the Whiteness slider.

When you select None as the White Print Mode option, the Print white areas and Choke optionsare disabled.

When Print White Areas is not selected, the white areas of the image will not be printed.

White ink settings loaded from previous SW versions are kept and honored, but they cannot bechanged. To change white values, you must convert to the new white base creation algorithm byeither:

• Clearing the file KSF when loading the file

or

• Choosing a supporting newmedia in the File Details window or in the Setup (via the SetupDatabase window).

• Localization (Version 6.0+)The SW is available in English (default), Chinese, and Japanese.

To change the language, in the application, select Tools >Change Language and then select thelanguage of your choice.

• Supports 4-Liter Bulk Ink SystemThe Avalanche 1000, Avalanche Hexa, Avalanche 1000 R-Series & Avalanche Hexa R-Seriesprinters support 4-liter ink containers only.

• Ink Recirculation SystemThe ink recirculation system continuously circulates the ink through the print heads:

• Prevents ink sediments and dry ink from clogging the print head orifice holes

• Reduces the need for purging the print heads, thereby substantially reducing ink waste

• Improves print head ink feed, thereby improving print quality

• The uninterrupted flow of ink circulating between the print heads and the secondary ink tanksdecreases nozzle clogging, eliminates the need to perform frequent purging, and hencereduces direct and indirect costs and ink waste. It improves system uptime, reducesmaintenance requirements and generally improves the system performance and utilization.

While printing the ink level goesdown in the secondary ink tanks asthe ink travels to the print head.

As the ink travels to the print headthe amount of ink in the secondaryink tanks goes down.

Excess ink from the print head isrecirculated back to the high vacuumsecondary ink tank.

Then the ink levels in the twosecondary ink tanks levels out. Thisprocess is repeated continuously.

• Updated Media Database• Version 6.0+: The Media Database tool has been renamed “Media Manager”.• Version 6.0+: Additional parameters have been added to the media definition and are

displayed in the Media Manager table:

• Whiteness

• Max. White

• ICC Profile: Sets the default ICC profile for the selected garment

• Lookup tables (via Linearization wizard)

• Version 6.1+: The Dark Media column has been changed to Underbase and now has 3options:

• BlackT: For black media• ColorT: For colored media• None: For white/light media

• Version 6.1+: TheWhiteness column has been removed.• Version 6.1+: Default Media and ICC Profiles have been updated.

• Linearization WizardVersion 6.0+:Kornit has developed a new linearization Wizard for improved calibration of color and white printingper media.

The new Linearization Wizard has moved from the Toolsmenu and is now an integral part of theMedia Manager. Each media has a LUT defined; selection/creation of a LUT is via direct selectionof the required media in the Media Manager.

For Dark Media: Setthe Spray and WhiteInk Settings

For DarkMedia: WhiteMeasurement

For Dark and Light Media:Color Linearization andInk Restriction

For Dark & LightMedia: ColorMeasurement

For Dark & LightMedia:LinearizationSummary

• The white linearization pattern changed to have diagonal edges to enable easier visualidentification of ink bleeding in the various white values after printing.

• The Green ink restriction curve is flatter than in the previous version.

• Supports the X-Rite i1 reading encoder to reduce reading errors when scanning.

• Linear Spray AmountThe spray percentage selected defines the pallet speed at the time of spraying. Lower spraypercentages indicates faster pallet movement.

In previous versions, the spray amount:pallet speed ratio was not linear, spraying 15% twice gave aspray result of much more than 30%.

In SW version 6.1+, the spray amount:pallet speed ratio is linear, meaning that spraying 15% twice,or spraying 30%once, should give exactly the same result.

This feature is also backward compatible:

• When old setups are imported manually (including manual copying of ICC profiles, LUT’s andmedia), the application automatically converts the old spray percentage to the correct valueaccording to the new algorithm so that the correct amount of spray is applied. Both the newvalue and the old value are saved in the setup file.

• When new setups are created, the spray amount that you enter is automatically savedaccording to both the old and the new algorithm. When loaded on an older printer, the sprayamount defined according to the old algorithm is used.

Use the conversion table below to set the amount of spray for SW version 6.1+, based on theamount that was in use for SW version 5.7 (for example, if you have used 35%spray whileworking with version 5.7, set the amount of spray for version 6.1+ to 26%). Then, performprinting and adjust the spray amount, if required.
