LIVING ROSARY The Knights of Columbus will sponsor a Living Rosary on Saturday, May 13 at 2:00pm on the grounds of the State Capital. More info at http;//living-rosary.org

Let us pray… Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who brought these your servants to new birth

by water and the Holy Spirit, freeing them from sin:

send upon them the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and fortitude, the spirit of knowledge and piety;

fill them with the spirit of the fear of the Lord. Through Christ our Lord.

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY Today the Church throughout the world prays for voca-tions. Will you make a special effort to ask the Lord for more vocations to the priesthood and religious life? • Pray for priests who have ministered to you throughout

your life, both living and dead. • Keep our parish priests in your prayers throughout the

week. • Encourage your children, grandchildren, or other young

people to consider a vocation as a priest or religious brother or sister.

• Pray a rosary for more young men and women in our diocese to respond to God’s call.

Join an “Invisible Monastery” Pledge to pray for vocations at the international website, invisiblemonastery.com it was inspired by a call from the Vatican urging Catholics to “organize an ‘invisible monas-tery’ in which many persons, day and night, are committed to continuous prayer for priestly vocations.”

FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER “When a tradesman of Jesus’ time passed his craft on to his child, the process began early and continued until the son was ready to take over the father’s tools. By then he had so mastered the art of imitating his father’s gestures, angles, and grip that the worn grooves of the tools fit his hand like a glove. Someone who had learned a different technique would find the family’s tools awkward, and as tools were passed down from generation to generation each worker would feel truly in touch with the family tradition. This process is similar to what Peter suggests Christians should do in following Christ. As Peter talks about how to respond to unjust persecution, the Greek word he uses for following in Jesus’ footsteps actually describes the meticu-lous process of tracing letters as one learns to write. It sug-gests long term concentration and dedication as disciples learn to pattern their behavior on that of the master. “Peter goes into some detail about how the disciples are to emulate Christ. He encourages them to meditate on how Christ refused to be caught in a pattern of reciprocal insult and how he made no threats against his persecutors. It’s almost as though Peter were saying, ‘You can’t get by in this world without models, so become aware of and choose the models that influence or even determine your way of living.’ In teaching this the First Letter of Peter adds detail to what Peter preached on Pentecost when he urged people to be baptized in the name of Jesus as a way of being saved from ‘this corrupt generation.’” (Preaching Resources, Celebra-tion; 5/7/17, Emulate Christ by Sr. Mary M. McGlone, p.1.)

SOLEMN COMMUNION SUNDAY Four of our children, in the 2nd Grade, are welcomed to the Table of the Lord to receive their First Holy Commun-ion this weekend at the 11:00am Mass. Two other children, enrolled at Resurrection School are invited to join them, allowing us to celebrate all of them making this large sacramental step in their spiritual lives. May God Bless the children, and their families who have helped the children to this point and have supported our efforts to share the faith with them. A special Thank You to our catechists for the second grade, Mark and Julie Stenske. REGIONAL CONFIRMATION THIS SUNDAY St. Mary Cathedral welcomes Confirmation Candidates along with their sponsors and extended families from eight other parishes to join our 14 – teens and adults – for the Regional Confirmation Mass this Sunday, May 7, at 2:30 pm. Bishop Boyea will be the principal celebrant and will be joined by the Candidates’ parish priests for the Mass. Following is the prayer offered for the Sacrament of Con-firmation:
