Hi On media - our media team is comfortable with the BoM answering its own queries - however, could you please check in and confirm with us before a response is provided? It would be good to all on the same page. Our media team’s address is [email protected] or 6274 6157 FYI - we have been keeping everything very high level - an example of our response is below. Many thanks,

QUESTION

One of our local government areas, Moyne Shire, was named as one of 13 recipients of funding under the Drought Community Program.

This has surprised the shire’s councillors and the community, since Moyne has been providing support to drought-affected communities itself, so I was wondering if I could get some comments and information about how Moyne was chosen for the program?

ANSWER:

The Drought Communities Programme Extension takes into account Bureau of Meteorology rainfall data over the 24 months leading up to 30 June 2019, as well as other economic and industry data such as the workforce employed in agriculture, forestry or fisheries, to determine which local government areas should receive assistance through economic stimulus. Moyne Shire was selected for the program based on latest review.

The Government looked at where drought issues had intensified in local government areas that had

not yet received $1 million under the program.

Ahead of the forecast summer conditions, it is important to generate economic stimulus in these communities to mitigate against hardship, support projects that provide local employment and keep money flowing through local shops and suppliers.

Hi Thanks for the chat this morning - really appreciate your assistance. As discussed, we require the following information - as we need to undertake a forensic review of the DCP Extension data and selection process.

1. Re-check and send us the 1 in 20 year rainfall deficiency data for Moyne up to 30 June 2019. 2. A Map that shows Moyne (or at least Warrnambool) for the 24 months leading up to 30 June 2019.

a. For example, it would be great to have a map similar to the attached, but for Victoria, that clearly indicates where Moyne is and/or Warrnambool.

3. The data collection points in the Moyne Shire (the rainfall stations) 4. Available rainfall data since 30 June 2019 (i.e. has it rained significantly n the past couple of months?)

has also re-sent you the link that was originally provided.

If we could please get this as soon as possible today, that would be excellent. Thanks again greatly appreciate it.

Hi I understand you are looking for the data linked below. ftp://ftp.bom.gov.au/anon2/home/ncc/srds/ The FTP link does not actually work for me, but our Geospatial team who prepared the headline figures by local government area were able to download it. If you have any difficulty with the link, let me know and I’ll contact them to ask for the actual file. Kind regards,

In the mean time could the data (percentiles for 24 months to June 2019) be made ready by Wednesday - we may need to supply ahead of having payment issues finalised as the information is supporting a Government policy. I am out of the office the next two days but can be contacted on mobile if you wish to discuss anything. Thanks
