Feast of Christ the King This weekend in the Church we celebrate the

Feast of Christ the King, King of the Universe.

Hence, I think that it is important that we take a

look at the history of how this celebration came

about.

The earliest Christians identified Jesus with the

predicted Messiah of the Jews. The Jewish word

"messiah," and the Greek word "Christ," both

mean "anointed one," and came to refer to the

expected king who would deliver Israel from the

hands of the Romans. Christians believe that Je-

sus is this expected Messiah. Unlike the messiah

most Jews expected, Jesus came to free all peo-

ple, Jew and Gentile, and he did not come to

free them from the Romans, but from sin and

death. Thus the king of the Jews, and of the cos-

mos, does not rule over a kingdom of this world.

Christians have long celebrated Jesus as Christ,

and his reign as King is celebrated to some de-

gree in Advent (when Christians wait for his sec-

ond coming in glory), Christmas (when "born this

day is the King of the Jews"), Holy Week (when

Christ is the Crucified King), Easter (when Jesus

is resurrected in power and glory), and the As-

cension (when Jesus returns to the glory he had

with the Father before the world was created).

However, Pius XI wanted to specifically com-

memorate Christ as king, and instituted the feast

in the Western calendar in 1925.

In the 21st century many Western Christians,

Catholic and Protestant, celebrate Christ the King

Sunday, including Anglicans and Lutherans. Un-

fortunately, in some mainline Protestant

churches, "king" language is not popular, and the

feast is downplayed. However, in a chaotic and

unjust world that seems to scorn any kind of au-

thority, many Christians proudly celebrate Christ

the King Sunday, where the loving and merciful -

and just - king of the universe is praised and glo-

rified.

Mandatory Minister Workshop

On Thursday, November 29, Fr. Efrain will hold a mandatory workshop for all Extraordinary Ministers of Communion in the church. Fr. Efrain will meet with the English Ministers from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.; Spanish from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Help Needed: ALTAR CARE

English speaking teams clean every 2nd, 4th and 5th Saturdays after the 8:00 a.m. Mass. It takes about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. It involves light cleaning: dusting, straighten books on pews, removing of finger prints on glass (Blessed Sacrament and cry room), clean holy water re-ceptacles, etc. There is no heavy cleaning; no bathrooms.

1/ Tạ ơn Chúa vì được làm người con bé mọn của Cha trên trời. Phúc Âm thánh Luca kể: "Nhóm Bảy Mươi hai trở về, hớn hở nói: Thưa Thầy, nghe đến danh Thầy, cả ma quỷ cũng phải khuất phục chúng con. Đức Giêsu bảo các ông rằng: 'Thầy đã thấy Satan như một tia chớp từ trời sa xuống. Đây, Thầy đã ban cho các con quyền năng để đạp lên rắn rết, bọ cạp và mọi thế lực kẻ thù. Tuy nhiên, các con chớ mừng vì quỷ thần phải khuất phục các con, nhưng hãy mừng vì tên các con đã được ghi trên trời" (Lc 10,17-20). Qua lời Chúa dạy trên đây, chúng ta thấy cách Chúa đào tạo các môn đệ. Các môn đệ hớn hở vì được Chúa ban quyền chức lớn. Thái độ hớn hở ấy không phải xấu, nhưng dễ làm cho các môn đệ tự phụ. Nên Chúa nhẹ nhàng cảnh giác họ nhớ rằng: Cũng vì kiêu ngạo tự phụ, mà Satan đã từ trời phải sa xuống vực thẳm. Cho nên, đừng dại dột mừng vì chức lớn quyền cao. Nhưng hãy mừng vì tên của mình được ghi trên trời. Được ghi do lòng thương xót Chúa. Lòng thương xót Chúa là Cha đoái nhận những kẻ bé mọn làm con của Cha. Kẻ bé mọn được thương thế nào, thì Phúc Âm thánh Luca kể tiếp: "Ngay giờ ấy, được Thánh Thần tác động, Đức Giêsu hớn hở vui mừng và nói: "Lạy Cha là Chúa tể trời đất, con xin ngợi khen Cha, vì Cha đã giấu kín không cho bậc khôn ngoan thông thái biết những điều này, nhưng lại mạc khải cho những người bé mọn. Vậy, lạy Cha, vì đó là điều đẹp ý Cha" (Lc 10,21). Khi biết chắc chắn Chúa Cha rất thương những ai khiêm tốn, đơn sơ, hèn mọn, chúng ta sẽ an tâm chọn cách sống đó. Phần thưởng Chúa dành cho những ai sống như vậy sẽ là: Được làm con Cha, được ghi danh trên trời.Đó là ơn rất quý trọng. Đây là điều rất an ủi cho mọi người, đặc biệt là những ai không có chức quyền, không có địa vị trong xã hội và Giáo Hội. Họ chỉ được là con Chúa. Thế là quá đủ. Đó là điều chúng ta phải nhớ tạ ơn Chúa ưu tiên và suốt đời.

2/ Tạ ơn Chúa, vì được tin vào Chúa Giêsu là Đấng đem lại sự sống và sự sống lại. Phúc Âm thánh Gioan kể dài biến cố Chúa Giêsu làm phép lạ cho ông Ladarô sống lại. Trước khi làm phép lạ này, Chúa Giêsu ngước mắt lên trời và nói: "Lạy Cha, con tạ ơn Cha, vì Cha đã nhậm lời con. Phần con, con biết Cha hằng nhậm lời con, nhưng vì dân đứng xung quanh đây, nên con đã nói, để họ tin là Cha đã sai con" (Ga 11,41). Nói xong, Chúa Giêsu đã làm phép lạ cho Ladarô chết đã 4 ngày được sống lại. Câu chuyện trên đây cho ta thấy rằng: Chúa Giêsu được Chúa Cha sai đi, để làm chứng cho lòng thương xót Chúa. Lúc đó, gia đình Ladarô đang đau khổ, đám đông đang sầu buồn. Tất cả đều tưởng nỗi đau buồn ấy là cảnh vĩnh biệt sau cùng. Chúa Giêsu đã đến chia sẻ. Không những thế, Người đã cho Ladarô được sống lại. Thái độ này đã làm cho nhiều người tin vào Chúa Giêsu. Qua câu chuyện này, ta thấy thái độ đồng cảm của Chúa Giêsu dành cho những người đau khổ thất vọng đã là một cách làm chứng cho lòng thương xót Chúa. Chúa Giêsu đã tạ ơn Chúa Cha vì thái độ đó. Thực tế xưa và nay vẫn quý trọng những ai xót thương người đau khổ. Những ai đem lại cho người khác sự sống và sự sống lại một cách nào đó bao giờ cũng ví được như những hy vọng dẫn về Thiên Chúa. Chúng ta và cộng đoàn ta hãy là những người có cái tâm đồng cảm, xót thương. Được thế, chúng ta hãy hết lòng tạ ơn Chúa. Chúng ta hãy xin Chúa ban cho ta ơn đó một cách dồi dào.

3/ Tạ ơn Chúa, vì được phục vụ và hy sinh cho người khác. Phúc Âm thánh Matthêu thuật lại việc Chúa Giêsu lập phép Thánh Thể như sau: "Cũng đang bữa ăn, Đức Giêsu cầm lấy bánh, dâng lời chúc tụng, rồi bẻ ra, trao cho các môn đệ và nói: Các con cầm lấy mà ăn, đây là mình Thầy. Rồi Người cầm lấy chén, dâng lời tạ ơn, trao cho các môn đệ và nói: Tất cả các con hãy uống chén này. Vì đây là máu Thầy, máu Giao ước, đổ ra cho muôn người được tha tội" (Mt 26,26-28). Đoạn Phúc Âm trên đây cho ta thấy: Trước khi Chúa Giêsu hy sinh mạng sống mình trên thánh giá, và trước khi Người hy sinh mình, để trở thành lương thực bé mọn dưới hình thức bánh và rượu, Người đã tạ ơn Chúa Cha. Người tạ ơn Chúa Cha, vì Người được hy sinh để làm chứng cho tình yêu Chúa Cha đối với nhân loại tội lỗi. Người tạ ơn Chúa Cha, vì Người được làm chứng cho việc thi hành thánh ý Chúa Cha đến cùng độ. Người coi sự hy sinh như vậy là làm vinh quang cho Chúa Cha, và cũng là một vinh dự cho chính Người. Người coi đó là con đường để trở về cùng Cha, Đấng đã sai Người. Chúng ta cũng hãy như vậy. Khi được như vậy, chúng ta hãy tạ ơn Chúa. Trên đây là ba lý do đã được Chúa Giêsu nói lên lời tạ ơn Chúa Cha. Có thể có nhiều lý do khác nữa đã khiến Chúa Giêsu dâng lời tạ ơn. Chắc là thế. Nhưng chúng ta vẫn nên coi ba lý do kể trên như những chỉ hướng quan trọng, mời gọi chúng ta hãy tạ ơn Chúa một cách đặc biệt. Tôi thiết nghĩ, ba chỉ hướng đó rất cần cho ta, để đời tạ ơn của chúng ta có cơ sở vững chắc.

Tâm tình tạ ơn. Trong mọi việc tạ ơn, ta không thể không để ý đến những tâm tình. Một tâm tình được coi là hết sức quan trọng trong tạ ơn, đó là khiêm tốn. Thánh Phaolô nói: "Tôi rất vui mừng và tự hào vì những yếu đuối của tôi, để sức mạnh của Đức Kitô ở mãi trong tôi... Khi tôi yếu, chính là lúc tôi mạnh" (2 Cr 12,9-10).... Vì thế, việc tạ ơn Chúa luôn đòi sự tỉnh thức đi đôi với lòng khiêm tốn. Giữ được tâm tình như thế, chúng ta mới thực hiện được lời thánh Phaolô khuyên ta: "Trong mọi hoàn cảnh và trong mọi sự, các con hãy nhân danh Đức Giêsu Kitô, Chúa chúng ta, mà cảm tạ Thiên Chúa là Cha" (Ep 5,20).

cual, pienso que es im-

portante que miremos

en la historia de dónde

vino esta celebración.

Los primeros cristianos identificaron a Jesús con el

profetizado Mesías de los judíos. La palabra judía

“mesías” y la palabra griega “Cristo”, ambas significan

“el ungido”, y se refiere al esperado rey que liberaría a

Israel de las manos de los romanos. Los cristianos cre-

en que Jesús es el mesías esperado. Contrario del

mesías que la mayoría de los judíos han esperado,

Jesús vino a liberar a toda la gente, judíos y gentiles, y

no los vino a liberar de los romanos sino del pecado y

de la muerte. Sin embargo, el rey de los judíos y del

cosmos, no gobierna sobre el reino de este mundo.

Los cristianos han celebrado, por largo tiempo, a

Jesús como Cristo y su reino como Rey es celebrado

en cierto nivel en Adviento (cuando los cristianos es-

peran su segunda venida en gloria), Navidad

(cuando "nace este día el Rey de los Judíos”), Sema-

na Santa (cuando Cristo es crucificado Rey), Pascua

(cuando Jesús es resucitado en poder y gloria), y la

Ascensión (cuando Jesús regresa a la gloria que po-

see con el Padre antes de que el mundo fuera creado).

Sin embargo, el Papa Pio XI deseo conmemorar, en

forma especial, a Cristo como Rey e instituyó la fiesta

en el calendario occidental en 1925.

En el siglo veintiuno muchos cristianos, católicos y pro-

testantes de occidente celebran el domingo de Jesu-

cristo Rey del Universo, incluyendo a luteranos y angli-

canos. Desafortunadamente, en algunas Iglesias pro-

testantes muy importantes, la palabra “rey” no es muy

popular y la fiesta no tiene mucho valor. Sin embargo,

en un mundo caótico e injusto que parece desmoronar-

se ante toda clase de autoridad, muchos cristianos ce-

lebran con mucho orgullo el Domingo de Jesucristo

Rey del Universo, donde el Rey amoroso y misericor-

dioso –y justo- es alabado y glorificado.

Solemnidad de Cristo Rey

En el Evangelio de hoy, posiblemente el desafío más importante de toda la literatura, Pilato pregunta a Jesús: “¿Qué has hecho?” Jesús responde que él da testimonio de la verdad. La segunda lectura nos recuerda la esencia de esa verdad: Cristo, soberano de todo, nos ama, nos libera del pecado, nos crea un nuevo Re-ino. Al aproximarnos esta semana a la época de Adviento, sería un buen tiempo para reflexionar sobre la pregunta: ¿qué hemos hecho en nuestra vida diaria, en nuestras acciones, nuestras pala-bras, nuestra oración privada, y en nuestra interacción con otros para atestiguar que Jesús es nuestro Señor?

FIESTA DE LA VIRGEN DE GUADALUPEFIESTA DE LA VIRGEN DE GUADALUPE

*Se proyectará la película “Las Apariciones de la Virgen de Guadalupe” (subtítulos en inglés) en los Salones parroquiales el viernes 30 de noviem-bre. A partir de las 6:30pm *La Novena en honor de la Virgen de Guadalupe iniciará el 3 de diciembre en su Capilla a partir de las 7 de la noche. ¡NO FALTEN!!!

*La Fiesta de San Juan Diego (9 de diciembre)este año cae en domingo. Tendremos una Oración so-lemne después de la Misa de las 7pm y al terminar todos están invitados a una convivencia en los salo-nes.

FIESTA DE LA VIRGEN DE GUADALUPE *El 12 de diciembre (miércoles) es la Fiesta de la Virgen Santísima de Guadalupe. La noche del 11 de dic. al 12 de dic. la Iglesia estará abierta y la capilla permanecerá cerrada. La Misa (Inglés y español) con Mañanitas será a las 5 de la mañana. Y en la tarde la Misa y la Procesión de la Virgen será a las 6:30 PM. Al terminar, nuestra convivencia en los salones parroquiales.

SEA UN ANGEL NAVIDEÑO Las Caridades Católicas están promo-viendo el Árbol de Ángeles dentro de la Iglesia para ayudar a las familias mas necesitadas de nuestra Comunidad. RITO PENITENCIAL ADVIENTO

El mejor camino para prepararnos para la Navidad es reconciliarnos con Dios. Reconciliarnos personalmente y como una comunidad de fe. Nuestro Rito Penitencial Parroquial de Adviento será el jueves 6 de diciembre: 1:00 pm y a las 6:30 PM.

TALLER OBLIGATORIO M. COMUNION

El jueves 29 de noviembre el P. Efraín tendrá un Taller Obligatorio para los Ministros extraordinarios de la distribución de la Comu-nión en la Iglesia. De las 6:00pm a las 7pm en Inglés y de las 7:00pm a las 8:00pm en Español.

TALLER OBLIGATORIO M. HOSPITALIDAD

El miércoles 13 de diciembre el P. Efraín tendrá un Taller Obligato-rio para los Ministros de Hospitalidad en el Salón P. Ulman. De las 6:00pm a las 6:45pm en Inglés y de las 6:45pm a las 7:30pm en Español.

TALLER OBLIGATORIO LECTORES

El sábado 15 de diciembre el P. Efraín tendrá un Taller Obligatorio para todos los Ministros de la Palabra en la Iglesia. De las 12:30pm a las 1:30pm en Inglés y de las 1:30pm a las 2:30pm en Español.

BAZAR DE ARTESANIAS El Ministerio de Mujeres patrocinará un Bazar de Artesanías aquí en nuestra parroquia el fin de semana de diciembre 1 /2. El sábado de las 9:00 am - 5:00 pm y el domingo de las 8:00 am - 7:00 pm. Artesanías elaboradas a mano son

unos maravillosos regalos de Navidad.

El Bazar se llevará a cabo en los Salones en donde además de realizar sus compras podrá disfrutar de comida que se venderá a precios accesibles. Habrá rifas de artesanías cada hora. Entre las artesanías habrá joyería de fantasía, velas, pinturas, cobijas, artículos para bebés y otras muchas cosas más.

MINISTERIO UNO-A-UNO El Ministerio Uno a Uno está para escuchar a los feligreses. Voluntarios entrenados de parte de la parroquia le llamaran para asegurar una entrevista de media hora para visitar y escuchar a feligreses sobre preocupaciones tanto en su vecindario como en la Iglesia. Estas entrevistas se pueden realizar en la Iglesia o en su hogar.
