We need your assistance! A school from Prague wants to attend our SOCOMUN conference in September and

they cannot afford to stay in a local hotel. We are looking for families to host students for their stay (Wednesday Sep-

tember 20—Thursday September 28, 2017).

If your family is able to host one of these students please contact Mr. Remmell at [email protected] Please see below the tentative instructions for hosting a student from Prague. This is something new to me so we will be working on this process together. Please be patient with me. The students will arrive at LAX and we will bring them to the school for you to pick up and take home. The first night they may need to have something to eat since they have been on a long trip and may or may not have eaten on the air-line. Once they are with the host family the family’s responsibility will be: 1. Provide a bed and space for the guest. Generally, an extra bedroom. 2. Provide breakfast daily for the student. 3. Provide transportation daily for your guest to school when your own child goes to school. The Czechs will meet daily at school and then go on to a planned activity. They will return to the school when their activity is over. As soon as the activities are planned then we will let you know the time for pickup... 4. Provide a sack lunch for the guest daily and some snacks. 5. Dinner when they have a short day of touring. For example, if they are visiting Disneyland or Universal Studios they will eat at the amusement park. 6. Have them as part of your family they are here to practice English and learn our culture. They all speak Eng-lish. Please include them in whatever you are doing. 7. The day of the Conference they will have dinner with you and then spend Sunday with you. 8. They would love to attend a Football game and of course spend time at an American School. 9. At the end of their stay we will take them to the airport. 10. The students will get in touch with their host family via email so both host and guest will get to know each other before they meet. Some of the activities we have done with them in the past: Disneyland Universal Studios (so they can see Hollywood) San Diego Laguna Beach Shopping - they loved Target! After the conference last year, we had a beach party with the host families and the Czech group. We would love to have the parents involved plan any special activities you would want to do with the group.

Six students from Santa Margarita Catholic High School’s Model United Nations (MUN) program traveled to

the twenty-fourth annual Beijing Model United Nations (BEIMUN) Conference in March. Carolyn Nilsen, Sabrina

Torres, Ethan Ko, Ryan Ramos, Quinn Webster, and Dina Saccacio all made this remarkable journey. The conference

was held in Beijing. The students had the opportunity to visit the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the Great Wall of

China, the Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven, and the Lama Temple and attend the three day conference. The con-

ference included students from forty international schools including schools from: India, China, South Africa, Qatar,

Philippines, Nigeria, Singapore, Sweden, Fiji, Mexico, South Korea. Santa Margarita Catholic High School was the

only school from the United States to attend. The students from the SMCHS MUN program represented the countries

of Japan and Brunei. The students debated a wide variety of issues, such as arms control, sustainable development, and

human rights issues. The eleven-day trip gave the students a whole new prospective on China, and the world we live

in. The students all believe that they grew intellectually, socially, and spiritually as a result of their experiences on this

trip.

Hi MUN Parents! It is that time of the year that we would like to request your assistance with the upcoming Father Daughter Dance on April 1st First and foremost, thank you, as always, for all of the support that you have given to the MUN pro-gram throughout this year. For many years we had a generous MUN family donate all candleholders, tablecloths, helium tank and balloons for the dance. Since their child has graduated, we now more than ever need donations to cover the cost of materials for the dance. We are still in need of monetary support and would deeply appreciate contributions toward: _____ the cost of decorative items - $500.00 _____ the cost of use of the kitchen and refreshments - $500.00 _____ the cost of the disc jockey - $2,000.00 If you are able to make a monetary contribution to our efforts at www.smhs.org/fddance then please send your con-tribution made payable to SMCHS-MUN to Santa Margarita Catholic High School Attn: Mrs. Berg 22062 Antonio Parkway RSM, CA 92688 Thank you again and we of course would not be able to plan such events to support our students without your contri-butions and efforts. Sincerely, Mrs. Berg and Your MUN Team
