Our Lady, Mother of the Church Mission Statement We, the members of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, are drawn together through baptism as a part of the Body of Christ. We are a caring Catholic community, working together as instruments through which Jesus, our risen Lord and Head, continues His mission. Linked to Christ as His Body, we believe that the risen Jesus still proclaims God’s word, gives thanks and praise, welcomes, nurtures, comforts and reaches out to all people. Using the hands and hearts of the members of the parish, with a growing sense that each of us is gifted and has an important part to play in our Parish, Church and World, we renew our call: ♦ to be a Parish diligent about Word and Eucharist, the primary source of our nourishment and spiritual growth... ♦ to be “missioned” - sent forth in the person of Jesus, to bring His Word and Eucharist to family, friends, neighbors and workplace... ♦ to reach out to the sick, the homebound, the persecuted, the lonely, the poor and the bereaved… ♦ to find time to share laughter, joy, friendship, at times, tears; and always to share the goodness of each other...
Alleluia! He is risen! Could you imagine our faith without the fact of Jesus’ resurrection? Saint Paul even tells us “And if Christ has not been raised, then empty [too] is our preaching; empty, too, your faith.” (1 Cor 15:14) Every Sunday we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, because this is the eighth day of the week. That mystery surpasses the natural order of the world. And today is the biggest celebration of the glorious victory when our Lord, Jesus Christ won over the power of evil and the power of death.
In a spiritual way, we are witnesses of the empty tomb of Jesus; with Mary Magdalene we re-cognize his voice; with the disciples we are ready to proclaim, ‘Jesus Christ is risen today!’ The joy of Easter morning changes the world. Our beautiful traditions symbolize new life in Jesus Christ. One of them is an egg, the symbol of new life, fertility and rebirth. Another is bread which was shared at the last supper. The lamb and other meats symbolize the sacrifice of Jesus, the blameless lamb sacrificed for the life of the world. Herbs and other spices remind us about the taste of our faith. Salt is a symbol of preventing us from corruption. Even though our celebration mostly takes place around the eucharistic table or our dining room table, we have not only dietary symbols. The two letters from the Greek alphabet, the first the last, alpha and omega, are the symbols of Jesus itself, the One who is the beginning and the end of creation. The most recognized symbol of Christianity is a cross. Victory came through the cross. It took al-most three centuries for Christians to be proud of the cross. It used to be a symbol of shame and damnation. Without Jesus’ victory it would have stayed a symbol of a curse. Jesus converts our crosses, too, into glory. I would like to wish you Happy Easter! May the peace and joy brought by Jesus on this glorious day reign in your hearts! May yo-ur Easter gatherings with family, friends, relatives be blessed with the joy of Jesus’ resurrection! Father Andrew

Food Pantry April 24 It will be open this Wednesday from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. in Hayes Center. Go to the west side of the building, and enter through the door nearest to the outdoor statue of the Sa-cred Heart of Jesus.
Your donations to the Lenten Food Drive and Bundle Sunday are greatly appreciated. When the food from the final week was de-livered, Catholic Charities in Des Plaines said your contributions would really help out, as it would be three weeks before they re-ceive their next scheduled food delivery. The floor of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Chicago trailer was filled with your dona-tions, and bags were even stacked on top of other bags and boxes. Thank you for helping the needy!
Sign Up for Eucharistic Adoration
Next weekend, there will be a sign-up sheet in the narthex for Eucharistic Adoration on First Friday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Half-hour time slots are available. People may gather to pray together in Polish from 1 to 2 p.m. The Divine Mercy Chaplet begins at 3 p.m., the hour of great mercy, followed by Benediction. Adore the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, which is full of mercy.
The Friendship Club will have their meeting on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. After a short meeting, we will enjoy a polish sausage sandwich with
potato chips and a big boy ice cream sand-wich for dessert. After lunch we will play bingo. Hope to see you there.
Divine Mercy Sunday, April 28
2 p.m. Eucharistic Adoration, Confession
3 p.m. Divine Mercy Devotion, Benediction
St. Faustina, in her Diary entry 699, said she heard, “My daughter, tell the whole world
about My inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of
My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain
complete forgiveness of sins and punishment….”
Novena of Divine Mercy The Divine Mercy Chaplet is prayed every day for nine days before Divine Mercy Sunday. This week’s intentions to bring to Jesus for his mercy are as follows:
April 21, all devout and faithful souls. April 22, those who do not believe in God and those who do not yet know God. April 23, souls of those who have separated themselves from the Church. April 24, meek and humble souls, and the souls of little children. April 25, souls who especially venerate and glorify God’s mercy. April 26, souls who are in Purgatory. April 27, souls who have become lukewarm.
