From your Pastor…
Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ. This is our opportunity to affirm and deepen our belief in the Eucharist, which we celebrate as a community every Sunday. At Mass, we truly receive the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ. On the evening of the Last Supper, Jesus instituted this
great gift and taught his disciples that whoever eats his flesh and drinks his blood will have eternal life. When we come to the Eucharist, we catch a glimpse of the heavenly banquet where we one day hope to be for all eternity - with God and His angels and saints. Our partaking in Holy Communion unites us with God, one another and those who have gone before us. The gift of receiving Almighty God in the Eucharist is to be received worthily. This means that Catholics are to prepare their souls by confessing serious sin in the Sacrament of Penance and be sorry for venial sins – both before receiv-ing the Eucharist. It is a sacrilege to knowingly receive the Eucharist when one is not in the state of grace. When we approach the Lord at communion we have to do it with humility and the desire of a pure heart. There are untold benefits which come from receiving the Eucharist. By re-ceiving Christ, we become more like Christ. We are strengthened with divine grace, which helps us to avoid temptation and to lead a holy life. When we truly and genuinely receive the Body and Blood of Christ, our lives reflect our profound communion with him and with our brothers and sisters. May this feast of Corpus Christi help us to appreciate and love more the Eu-charist, which is the Bread that comes down from heaven to nourish us so we might live with God eternally. Sincerely, Rev. Miguel Gonzalez.

TRUST IN JESUS Today’s feast celebrates another central mystery of our faith—the mystery of the Eucharist. Like the mystery of the Trinity, the real presence of the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist can never be fully understood, but can only be believed. Just as the Israelites in the desert were invited to put their trust in God’s word to them, we are invited to trust wholly in the word of Jesus. In today’s Gospel Jesus promises to give us a share in his very own flesh and blood, and a share in eternal life. We are called to take him at his word and open our hearts to receive true
nourishment and life from our participation in the Eucharist. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
