There have been numerous inquiries from the field regarding the interchangeability of thenew 9500 Series type accessories and the 9450 / 9550 type accessories. In particular:
"Can the 9450/9550 accesofies be insfaIled on the 9500 Series copier-s?
The peripherals / accessories are not interchangeable between the two model lines.Although the units can be mechanically and electrically connected, communications cannot beestablished because of software differences.
Refer to the Service Management Guide for Product Codes.

Symptom:
Modification Schedule,[? Mandatory-u Scheduled Visit[7 Next Call-u Next PM-u As NecessaryInstall Time
Copies become progressively lighter when making long / consecutive copy runs of high density /coverage originals (ie; Savin Test Pattern).
Cause:
The toner supply time was reduced by one half on the 9500 / 9600 / 9700 as compared to thepredecessor model 9450 I9550 / 9650. This software change, which was implemented to address adirty background issue experienced in the Japanese domestic market, was a standard change onall production units.
Solution:
SP Adjustment 1, page 7, Factory Use-T can be changed from [N] to [H] to accommodate / addressaccounts that have a high density original application. This change to [H] will equal the toner supplypercentage of [N] on the 9450 / 9550 / 9650.

Symptom:
SC546 or SC548. The mylar film covering the thermistor sensor peels or falls off.
Cause:
Silicone oil! which was applied to the Hot Roller during the production I assembly process to reducefriction, contaminated the thermistor and broke down the glue securing the mylar film to thethermistor.
Solution:
Oil is no longer applied during the production / assembly process beginning with November 96production.
It is recommended that the thermistor (P/N A1764221)* in the following units, which were producedand shipped prior to this production change, be replaced at installation or during the next service call:
9500 - 4A76480001 to 4A7650xxxx
9600 - 4A86480001 to 4A8650xxxx
9700 - 5A66480001 to 5A6650xxxx
Replacement thermistors will be automatically shipped to each location with affected units based onSavins Ship To Records.
*Note: The thermistor P/N has not changed.

OIL SUPPLY ROLLER/OIL SUPPLY CLEANING BLADE
SYMPTOM:Front door discoloration/oil supply roller not rotating leading to back spots on copies.
Front Door Discoloration:The cause of the discoloration of the front cover has been traced to the oil supply roller. A change in theproduction of this roller will prevent this from reoccurring. This change in production has also necessitated achange in the cleaning blade. Both must be replaced at the same time. It is recommended that thisprocedure be done.
Non-rotation of the Oil SUDI>IV Roller:In conditions where the pressure of the spring and the oil supply cleaning blade are strong (but still withinspecifications) and if a copy is not made after the main switch has been turned on for a long time, the oilsupply roller becomes harder due to the heat from the hot roller. The shape of the oil supply roller, from aside view, then comes to resemble a D instead of the original 0. Since the contact area between the hotroller and the oil supply roller increases due to the change in shape of the oil supply roller, the contactpressure between the hot roller and the oil supply roller decreases. Therefore, the oil supply does not rotate.
Since the new oil supply roller is harder, the shape of this part will not become deformed even if copies arenot made after the machine has been on for a long time. As a result of the modification, the thickness of theoil supply cleaning blade has been changed to maintain the proper pressure between the hot roller and the oilsupply roller.
