STAY AWAKE AND BE READY FOR YOU DO NOT KNOW ON WHAT DAY THE SON OF MAN WILL COME.

Jesus makes a strong statement to the disciples about the use of time, and about priorities. Some of it must have been puzzling for the disciples, who at that stage did not know about the events which would later unfold in Jerusa-lem. But the point Jesus was making about being ready and about priorities was unmistakable. Time is a gift, with each of us having that gift in an un-known measure. Procrastination is like a thief who erodes that gift, wasting it by leading us to do nothing, or to do what is easy rather than what should be a priority. It is difficult to use time wisely if there are no clear priorities. The greater the number of demands being made, the more important it is to es-tablish what matters most. And Jesus is very clear that what matters most is being ready for the day when we will meet him in death. As a prioritizing prin-ciple, the knowledge that we will die one day and that we don’t know when is a powerful organizing force. It is also not easy to think about, but procrastination is not an option in the context of discipleship. Procrastination conjures up ideas of idleness, but it can actually be hidden by vigorous activity. Being in a state of permanent activity does not mean that we are doing what really matters. If we allow activity to push the harder spiritual stuff off our agenda then we are procrastinating on what should be a priority. When life feels chaotic because of the demands being made, the lack of opportunity to think and reflect can result in attention being given to whatever we can turn around the quickest or whatever is pushed by the most demanding voice. Those things may not be the true priorities. The longer-term items, the deeper needs, those things which have the potential for beneficial change tend to fall off the table, both in our personal lives and in our working or family lives. Taking the opportunity each day to ask what matters most at a personal level and in relation to the de-mands being made on us is a powerful tool for being ready. It can bring order to chaos and reduce procrastination on the things that really matter. It can provide a calm and friendly assertiveness in the face of overwhelming de-mand. Most importantly, it gets the question of being ready, as Jesus asked it, back on the table.

Jesús hace una declaración fuerte hacia los discípulos hablándoles sobre el uso del tiempo y prioridades. Para ellos, esto debió de haber creado confusión ya que desconocían todo lo que estaba por suceder en Jerusalén. Pero lo que Jesús quería enseñarles era importante e inconfundible. El tiempo es un regalo y este regalo es para cada uno de nosotros. La dilación es como un ladrón que nos roba ese regalo. Hace que perdamos el tiempo ya que nos lleva a no hacer nada o en casos también nos lleva a hacer lo más fácil. Es difícil usar el tiempo sabiamente si no hay prio-ridades claras. Cuan mayor sea el numero de responsabilidades en nuestra vida, más difícil será establecer la im-portancia de cada una de ellas. Y Jesús es muy claro, ya que nos recuerda que lo más importante en realidad es estar preparados para el día en que lo volvamos a encontrarlo. Tampoco es fácil verlo pero la dilación no es una opción en nuestro seguimiento a Cristo como discípulos de Él. Cuando la vida se muestre caótica debido a las exi-gencias que se plantean, es importante recordar que nuestro tiempo es un REGALO. Esas cosas caóticas no pueden ser las verdaderas prio-ridades. Las cosas materiales NO deben ser nuestras prioridades. Lo más importante, es prepararnos para el bello momento en donde por fin podamos compartir la mesa con Jesucristo. El tiempo es un REGALO de Dios, aprovéchalo, y úsalo para prepararte y ayudar a todo aquel que lo necesite.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

1. Please come personally to the parish office at least one month in advance of the date you would like to baptized and present an original copy of your child’s birth certificate.

2. Children must be under 6 years of age. If your child surpassed this age, we encourage you to enroll him/her at the RCIA program, (818) 982-4248.

3. Parents and godparents must attend the pre-baptismal class. No babies or children allowed in class!

4. The donation is $50.00 per child. 5. Godparents must be Roman Catholic and Confirmed,

they also must be 18 years and over. If godparents are couple living together, they must be married in the Roman Catholic church. If parents are single, they must have the Sacrament of Confirmation. You must present certificates of these sacraments.

response to complicated conversations is a generic one, but these moments can be

opportunities to help children grow. For example, if a child comes to you and tells you that a friend is being left out of social ac-tivities, you might respond with a question: “Do you think there is anything you can do

help him/her feel more included?”

Or if your child comes to you for money for social activities, instead of offering a

solution, you might prompt them to consider ways that they could earn money or

Muchas veces es más fácil responder de manera general cuando se trata de

conversaciones complicadas, pero estos momentos pueden ser

oportunidades para ayudar a sus hijos a crecer. Por ejemplo, si su hijo le dice que un amigo está

siendo excluido de actividades sociales, puedes responder con una pregunta cómo: “¿Crees que hay algo que puedas

hacer para ayudarlo a sentirse parte de la actividad?” O, cuando le pidan ayuda para conseguir

dinero o recaudar fondos para alguna actividad, en vez de ofrecer una solución, ayúdenlos

a pensar y examinar diferentes maneras como ellos mismos pueden hacerlo. De

esta manera, no sólo estará ayudando al niño a encontrar la solución para una
