DNVs Standard for Certification 2.7-2 Contains specific requirements for the following, as applicable:

    - Structure (References 2.7-1)- Electrical Equipment*- Gas Detection System- Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning- Public Address and Main Alarm Systems- Fire Protection- Noise and Vibration

    * For electrical equipment in hazardous areas it should be noted that American and European installation codes of practice differ to various extents and therefore should not be mixed. This Certification Note has been directed towards the European practice. However, where equivalence can be demonstrated the American practices and equipment may be accepted. Reference is made to sec 2.4 Alternative certification.

    DNV Standard 2.22 Lifting Appliances

General- This Standard for Certification provides criteria and guidance for certification and verification

of the design, materials, fabrication, installation, testing and commissioning of lifting appliances

    - The Standard for Certification applies to:- shipboard cranes- conventional cargo gear derrick systems and other lifting appliances (cargo ramps and movable decks)

onboard a ship or other floating vessel- offshore cranes- industrial cranes- various types of lifting gear.

    - Compliance with 2.22 is required if unit has DNVs Additional Class CRANE

    DNV Standard 2.22 Lifting Appliances

General (continued)- The Standard for Certification is based on DNVs understanding and interpretation of the ILO

    Convention No.152 of 1979.

    - A number of bodies, such as Port Authorities, Maritime Authorities, Shelf Authorities and Municipal or Governmental Health and Safety Authorities require that lifting appliances and loose gear shall be certified. Normally, DNVs certification in accordance with this certification standard will satisfy the authorities requirements.

Skids- Both skids designed for transport of different varying loads as well as skids designed for a

specific load may be certified by DNV.

    - For special offshore services one should consider whether certification as offshore portable unit (2.7-3) might be an alternative to certification as loose gear.

    - If certification as loose gear is requested, the skid will, in principle, be certified in accordance with the ILO Convention. By DNV, this implies that this Certification Standard will form the basis for certification. The certification work will be documented by DNVs certificate CG3.

    - Any limiting design conditions for the operation of the skid shall be defined and annotated on the CG3 and will normally also be required to be included in the marking. This may, in addition to the SWL, include such details as limitations for the centre of gravity of the load and angles of the lifting slings that may be attached.

Certification Process Production Assessment Prefabrication meeting is recommended

    - Confirm certification scope of work & deliverables- Discuss design and fabrication issues (conceptual design, technical requirements, issues related to

welding/materials/testing, etc)- Review and Agreed upon Inspection & Test Plan

Scope of survey may include but is not limited to:- Approval of welding procedures- Weld start-up/Welding during fabrication- Verify material traceability- Specifically for 2.7-1, witness of mechanical and chemical testing of padeye material (provided its not

delivered with a 3.2 Certificate) - Witness of testing as applicable (NDT, Pressure Test, Load Test, Prototype Testing, etc)- Review of manufacturing record book- Hard stamping of frame and issuance of decals (2.7-1, 2.7-2, 2.7-3)- Issuance of Product Certificate (or Inspection Release Note if there any outstanding items. Product

Certificate to be issued once the remaining items have been cleared)

Equipment is DNV Certified once a Product Certificate has been issued. Note: a Survey Report is not a Product Certificate!

In some cases (e.g., 2.7-1, 2.7-3), periodic examination and testing is required in order to maintain the validity of the Certificate

Certification Process - FAQs Once the Product Certificate is issued is that the end of DNVs involvement?

    - There are specific requirements in the Standard (e.g., 2.7-1, 2.7-3) for periodic inspection and testing.

Do modifications or repairs invalidate the original certification unless DNV is involved- Yes. DNV must be involved and in some cases the changes must be re-approved (a Survey Report will be issued with

reference to the original Product Certificate)

Can DNV certify existing new or used equipment?- Yes, but it may be a challenge - Additional work, time & cost is probable

Does DNV have requirements for lifting/transportation when equipment is moved from unit to unit?- No, but National Authorities and/or operators may have requirements for certification

Is the certification process different for equipment designed by one company but fabricated by another?- No, the process is the same.

What electrical certification does DNV offer?- DNV can certify equipment/systems to either DNV Standards (e.g, DNV-OS-D201; DNVs Ship Rules Part 4, Ch. 8) or

International Standards (IEC, NEC, etc).- DNV is a Notified Body for various EU Directives, including ATEX (Atmosphere Explosible) Directive, EMC (Electromagnetic

Compatibility) Directive and Low Voltage Directive
