exaggeratedorjust entirelymade up, theresno doubting thatMr.Boones sniper skillswere

completelyabsentbythetimetheplayerfoundhim.Guardingasmallsettlementfromamakeshift

crowsnestwhentheplayerstumblesacrosshim,Boonedecideshewouldliketohelptheplayer

ontheirjourneyacrossthepostapocalypticworld.ExceptBooneno longerunderstandshowa

sniperrifleworks,as insteadofcrouching inthethickundergrowthonthebordersofahostile

camptoreadyhisscope,thetwitwillinsteaddecidethatcharginginforclosequarterscombatwill

bea farbettertacticaloption.And ifthatdidntgetthe idiotkilled,youcould look forwardto

randomlylosinghimforever,ashedecidestowanderoffonhisownquitefrequently.

Intheeventthatazombieapocalypseweretoeverhappen,youdwanttobeinasafeplace,be

abletodefendyourselfand,mostimportantly,besurroundedbyotherpeoplewhohadyourback.

IfyouveeverhadthepleasureofplayingLeft4Dead,youllknowthatifyouplayitwithfriendsor

otherpeople,youhaveaverylargechanceofsurvivalasyougundownorhackapartthousands

oftheundead.Ifhowever,youdecidetoplayValvesexcellentsurvivalgameonyour lonesome

(withonlyAIcontrolledteammatestohelpyou),youllquicklyfindthatsurvivalisntvery likely,

becauseyourfriendswillbejustasbraindeadasyourenemies.Zombiesaresupposedtobe

dumb, (thats how humans always find away of surviving), butwhen your fellow computer

controlledsurvivorsshowaboutasmuchurgencyasahungovercollegestudent,youllwonder

whytheoptiontohaveAIteammatesevenexists.Theproblemwouldntbesobadifyouonlyhad

normalzombiestodealwith,butwithspecial infectedalsopresenttobolstertheranksofthe

shamblingflesheaters,yourgrimfatewillalreadybesealed.Oneparticularexamplethatalways

comestomindisaparticulartypeofenemytheHunter.Thisthingwillsingleoutatargetand

thenjumpontothemasiftheyretryingtolickjamoffoftheirface.Whenthishappens,theplayer

afflictedwithHunteronfacesyndromeisunabletomoveorhelpthemselvesanothermusthelp

bykillingtheoffendingmonster.Noproblemifyoureplayingwithotherhumans,animpossible

taskifyourfriendsareAIcontrollednumptyswhowillgetthemselveskilledlongbeforetheyrealise

youreinmortaldanger.

PoorTails.Notonlydoesthetwotailedfoxhavetokeepupwiththeeyewateringspeedsthat

Soniccanreach,healsohastosimultaneouslystayoutoftheblueblurswayduetohishabitof

makingthingsharderforthehedgehog.Itsaparadoxicalsentenceforsure,butitmakescomplete

sensebecauseforeveryonethingthatTailsdoesrightassecondfiddletoSonic,hedoestenwrong.

Yousee,TailsisntveryblessedwhenitcomestointelligenceintheearlierSonicgames.Itseems

whenSegacodedhisbehaviouralpatterns,theonlyactiontheywereconcernedwithwasthatTails

must always follow Sonic. For this very reason, if youwere toeverdodge anenemys attack,

attemptadifficultplatformingsectionortakeonanendofstageboss,Tailswouldtrytomimic

yourexactmovementswithawfulresults.Foreveryattackyouwoulddodge,hewouldtakeahit.

Foreverytrickyjumpyoumadeaboveabottomlesspit,hewouldmissandplummettohisdeath.

Eventually,thetragedyofTailsincompetencebecamearunningjoketoSonicfanshispresence

almostlikewatchingacloneofyourselffaileveryobstaclethatyouhadmanagedtoclear.Alesson

inhownottoplaythegame,ifyouwill.Tailswasntwithouthisusesthough.Oneparticularstage

inSonic3;MarbleGardenZonerequiredthatTailskeptyouairbornewhileyoutookonRobotnik.

Fortunately,thefightwasscriptedtohaveTailsautomaticallypickyouupaftereveryjumpfrom

his cute little paws. Its a goodjob too, because the screams of frequent frustration ifTails

remainedanimbecilewouldhavebeentoomuchforSegatobear.

5 Dead Rising The Survivors

Thesecondzombiegameentryonthelistandnotthelast,DeadRisingisprivytosomeofthemost

infuriatingAIyoulleverexperience.Donttakethatthewrongway,DeadRisingwasanexcellent

game in itsown right,butwhenyouwere taskedwithescortingsurvivors toasafehouse ina

shoppingmalloverrunwiththeundead,youknewdeepdownthatescortingwitless,weaponless

peoplethroughhordesofmonstersthatwantedtoeatsomebrainswasnevergoingtogowell.

WhileescortmissionsinDeadRisingwereentirelyoptional,ifyouwereanachievementhunteror

justacompletionistyouneededtosaveeverysinglecivilianinneedofyourhelp.Thismeantthat

youhadtoanswerthecriesforhelpfromindividualswhohadbarricadedthemselvesinvarious

storesscatteredaroundthemall.Onceyouhadclearedthesurroundingareaofanythingremotely

threatening,youthenhadtoescortthesenitwitsfromonelocationtoanother.Escortquestsare

annoyingatthebestoftimes,butwhenthepeopleyouhavetoescortdontunderstandhowto

defendthemselvesorfollowyou,lifebecomesmuch,muchtougher.Allittookforasurvivortoget

rippedapartwasasinglezombiegrazingthem,andwhenhundredsofthebuggersstoodbetween

youandsafety,youwouldfindyourselfhavingtoconstantlystoptosavetheirhidesandclearan

openpathforthemtostrollthrough,allwhilehavingtodefendyourselffrommoreattackers.If

DeadRisingteachesyouanything,itsthatyoushouldntbotherhelpingpeoplebecausetheyre

allidiotsyourebetteroffmakingfriendswiththezombies;theyreclearlysmarter.

goingtogetbetweenyouandyourmissionexceptforareallyannoyingwomanwhohasthe

hisearlierincarnations,butinRareshistoricGoldenEyefortheNintendo64,youdbeforgivenfor

thinking thatNatalyawasamisandrist fortheway thatshe treatshim.Asyoumakeyourway

through thegame,youlleventuallybe incarceratedby theServernaya satellitesecurity staff

taskedwithguardingthetitularGoldenEyesuperweapon.Whenyouregainconsciousness,youll

noticethenotsofriendlyfaceofNatalyaSimonovainthecelladjacent,waitingforyoutohelpthe

twoofyouescapeyourjailsentence.Whatseemslikeaneasytaskinstantlybecomesoneofpure

frustration,becauseassoonasyoupullthatcelldoorajar,Natalyawillfollowyoublindly,regardless

ofanydangeryoure in.Thatsallfineanddandy ifyouwereona leisurelystrollthroughsome

idylliccornfield,butyourenotyouretryingtoescapeaheavilyfortifiedmilitary installation.

EnemyAIinGoldenEyemaybelaughablebytodaysstandards,butescortingadefencelessNatalya

throughthefacilitywasakintosomething likepullingteeth. Ifsoldiersweretoattackyoufrom

behinditwouldmeanNatalyawouldinstantlyfallvictimtocrossfire,andinanagewherecover

mechanicswerenonexistent,herfatewouldinstantlybesealed.Ifthatwasntbadenough,you

wouldconstantlyhavetobacktracktofindthewaywardhindrance,becauseshehadaknackfor

notbotheringtofollowyouandgetting lost inadarkcornerofthemazelikefacilitywhenyou

werentlooking.

As if irritatingplayersbymakingthemplayasRaiden insteadofSolidSnakewasntenough for

HideoKojima,theproduceralsodecidedtoaddinanexcruciatingly annoyingescortmissionjust

forgoodmeasure inMGS2.BeingHalOtaconEmmerichsstepsister,theplayer (asRaiden) is

taskedwith rescuing the girl from the clutches of the Sons of Libertywhile on the Big Shell

installation.However,onceyou findher,youllwishyoujust lefther there to rot,becauseher

incompetenceisjustoutrightfrustrating.Notonlyisthepartofthefacilityyoufindherinpartially

flooded,butthegirlalsosuffersfromaquaphobia,meaningyouhavetocarrytheruntthrough

floodedcorridorsandholdherhandthroughsubmergedportionsofthearea.Justtomakematters

that littlebitworse,onceyoufinallyreachtheexterioroftheBigShell,youthenhavetowatch

overEmmawhileshemakesherwayacrossthenarrowplatformsthatconnecteachcombatarea.

Doesntsoundtoohardright?Wellitwouldntbeifthechildwasntconstantlyaccostedbyguards

whileattemptingtomakeherwaytosafety.Withjustasniperathandtoprotecther, ifyouso

muchasmakeonemistake,itsgameoverandyouhavetostartfromthebeginning.Andwhen

youfindoutwhathappensifyoudomanagetoescorthertosafety,youllwonderwhyyoueven

botheredinthefirstplace.

Okay,thisisthelastentryinthezombietriopresentinthislist,anditsbyfartheworstoffender

ofthemall.IfyouweresmartenoughtoplaythroughtheentiretyofResidentEvil5scampaign

withabuddybyyourside,thenyouwouldhavebeensparedthetortureofShevasawfulAI.But

foreveryoneelse,theBSAAoperativewasjustahugepaininthebehind.Asidefromthefactthat

thisarticleprovidesconcrete(flimsy)proofthatartificialintelligencewouldbeentirelyuselessin

a real zombieapocalypse, it should alsobe tellingyou that you shouldnever trustanyoneor

anythingbutyourselfwhenyourefacedwithahordeofundeadthatwantnothingmorethanto

eatyour face.Sheva isnoexception to this rule,as shellnotonlybecome incapacitatedona

regularbasis(meaningyouhavetogooutofyourwaytohelpherout),butshellburnthroughany

preciousammoyouhaveacquiredwithoutactuallycontributinginanymeaningfulmanner.Itsfor

thisveryreasonthatmanyplayerstreatedherasamobilesecondinventory,abletoholdanyitems

thatyoudidntimmediatelyneed.Nevergiveheragun,ammooranythingofimportancethough,

shewilljustwasteitinthemostpointlesswayimaginable.

withbeingagoodfriendandcatchinguponaweeklybasis,butwhenacquaintancesstartmoaning

inyourearwitheverypassingmoment,the friendlinessturns intoborderlinestalking. Itdidnt

matterifyouwereinthemiddleofamission,cruisingthecityorjustengaginginsomegoodold

fashionedmayhemonthestreetsofLibertyCity,youwereneversafefromtheconstantthreatof

yourmobilephonegoingoffwithanobnoxiousringtone.Tomakemattersworse, ifyouturned

downanoffertosocialise,youwerethenberatedormadetofeelguiltyfornotwantingtosee

theirannoyingface.Unfortunately,Rockstarnevergaveplayerstheoptiontoturnthedamnthing

off,butitsokay,theywereforgiveninfullwhenGrandTheftAutoVwasreleasedlastyear.Andif

youhavethesameproblemasNiko,theremedyissimplejustdontmakefriends.Whoneeds

themanyway?
