802.16g Primitives for HO (BS side only)
• HO request• This primitive is used by a serving BS to inform the mobility control entity in NCMS of an HO request
from an MSS
• HO indication• This primitive is used by the mobility control entity in NCMS to inform target BSes of the pending HO.
• HO response• The mobility control entity in NCMS responds to the serving BS with the list of recommended target
BSes.
• HO confirmation• This primitive is used by the target BS to reponds to the HO indicaion primitive from the serving BS or
the mobility control entity in NCMS.
• HO start• In case of HO, this primitive is used to indicate the starting of the actual HO.
• HO cancel• In case of HO, this primitive indicates the cancellation of the pending HO.
• HO directive• This primitive is generated by the mobility control entity in NCMS to induce the handover of a
particular MSS. Transmission of MOB_BSHO-REQ message is triggered by this primitive.

Examples of 802.16g HO primitives

.16g Query MAC Management Messages• Query IE Request (QRY_IE_REQ)
• BS uses the QRY_IE_REQ message to query information on the SS by describing by one or more IEs. The QRY_IE_REQ message is sent from the BS to the SS on the SS’s primary management connection.
• Query IE Response (QRY_IE_RSP)• The QRY_IE_RSP message is sent by
the SS in response to QRY_IE_REQ containing the results of the information elements sent in the corresponding QRY_IE_REQ. The QRY_IE_RSP message is sent from the SS to the BS on the SS’s primary management CID.
• Set IE Request (SET_IE_REQ)
• Set IE Response (SET_IE_RSP)
* IEs are left as TBD in the .16g baseline document

L2 requirements for 802.16 • Protocol Architecture
• Primitives• Primitives in MS• Primitives in BS
• Primitives for inside BS• Primitives for Inter PoA Communication (Ib)
– Most primitives in the 802.16g baseline document fall into this category
– Dependency with 802.21WG about Ib
• MIH Capability Delivery through broadcast message (DL-MAP) like beacon in 802.11• What kind of information should be delivered?
• Information should be as small as possible
• Neighbor advertisement extension• What kind of .21 specific information should be included?
• Remote MIH Message delivery• Control Plane (with Basic CID)
• MAC management messages• Data Plane
• CS extension
