1ST70+ display functionsEach ST70+ display is set up as an Instrument or a Pilot Controller during commissioning, and is controlled from an external keypad. Instrument and Pilot Controller keypad types are fitted as appropriate. Note that the type of Pilot Controller keypad fitted depends on boat type (power or sail boat).

Switching onTo switch on an ST70+ display or display group, or to re-apply power to individual displays in a working group that have been switched off, press and release , on an associated key-pad. All displays in the relevant group then power up.At power up, each display shows the page that was in use when the power was last switched off, once the system has been commissioned.

WARNING: Do not use a display until the appropriate commissioning procedure has been successfully carried out (as in the ST70+ Installation Guide or the ST70+ User Reference Manual).

If a Language page is displayed when you switch on, the display has not been commissioned, so you need to carry out the commis-sioning procedure before using the display.

Switching offImportant: In the ‘Switched Off’ condition, power is still supplied to the displays. If you want to remove power completely, switch it off at the relevant distribution panel.

To switch off a display, hold down on an associated keypad. A countdown starts and a popup shows the progress and indicates which displays you are switching off (default is Group). Con-tinue holding down until the countdown completes and the selected displays power down.If you want to change which units are being switched off:1. During the countdown, release to pause the countdown, then use either the Rotary Con-

trol or -1 and +1 on the associated keypad to select either:• Group - to switch off all the displays in this group (default setting), or• Display - to switch off just this display.

Operating modesWhen you first switch on your system, your autopilot is in Standby mode. This means that you have full manual control, and the autopilot has no control over your boat. To enable the autopilot to steer your boat, you need to use one of the autopilot control modes.

Autopilot control modesAuto mode gives the autopilot basic steering control over your boat. The autopilot steers your boat on a fixed heading that you determine.Other modes in which the autopilot has control are:• Track mode is available where GPS information is available on your system. The autopi-

lot steers the boat on a pre-determined course defined by waypoints. (Refer to Card 10).• Wind Vane mode is available on SAIL BOATS ONLY, if Wind information is available.

The autopilot maintains a fixed course with respect to the wind. (Refer to Card 11).• Fishing patterns are available on FISHING BOATS ONLY. The autopilot navigates the

boat according a pre-programmed pattern. You can select the pattern you want and change the pattern parameters. (Refer to Card 12).

Using your autopilot in Auto modeWARNING: Autopilot safetyDo NOT engage your autopilot until youare sure it is safe to do so.

ImportantTo return to manual steering at any time, press STANDBY on your Pilot Controller keypad. To use your autopilot to steer your boat.1. Manually steer your boat onto the heading you

want.2. If necessary, engage the autopilot clutch (refer

to the operating guide supplied with your autopilot system).3. Ensuring you have enough clear water in the direction of travel, press AUTO on your Pilot

Controller keypad, to enter Auto mode. The autopilot then steers your boat on the heading you have chosen.

If necessary, use the keypad controls to change course when running in Auto mode:• On a sail boat use either -1 or -10 to turn to port, or +1 or +10 to turn to starboard.• On a power boat turn the Rotary Control either clockwise to turn to starboard, or coun-

terclockwise to turn to port. Each click of the control equals one degree of course change.

Returning to manual controlTo return to manual steering at any time, press STANDBY.

Applicability: The procedures on this card apply to ST70+ Pilot Controllers used with Raymarine SeaTalk and SeaTalkng autopilots. They do NOT apply to ST70+ Instruments.

same relative windangle

Winddirection

New winddirection

Wind shift

D11127-1

IntroductionOn a SAIL boat, you can use Wind Vane mode to automatically maintain the boat’s heading with respect to the wind angle. Thus if the wind angle changes, the boat’s heading changes accordingly to maintain the same relative wind angle, for either true or apparent wind.

ImportantTo return to manual steering at any time, press STANDBY on your Pilot Controller keypad.

Using Wind Vane modeWith your autopilot operating in Standby or Auto mode:1. Steady the boat on the required course.2. Press MENU then use < or > as necessary to select the Wind Vane Mode option.3. Press OK.

The current boat heading is set with respect to the wind direction. The boat heading and the relative wind angle are displayed. The wind angle value is annotated either P (port) or S (starboard) as appropriate.

The autopilot turns the boat as necessary to maintain the same relative wind angle.Short cutYou can also enter Wind Vane mode by pressing AUTO and STANDBY simultaneously at an associated keypad.

Adjusting the locked wind angleYou can adjust the locked wind angle by using the -1, +1, -10 and +10 buttons to change course. For example, to bear away by 10° when the boat is on a starboard tack:• Press -10 to turn the boat 10° to port. The locked wind angle and locked heading will both

change by 10°.• The autopilot will then adjust the locked heading as required to maintain the new wind

angle.Note: Turning the boat affects the relationship between the true and apparent wind angles, so you should use this method only to make minor adjustments to the wind angle. For major changes, return to Standby mode, steer onto the new heading, then reselect Wind Vane mode.

Leaving Wind Vane modeTo leave Wind Vane mode, use your Pilot Controller keypad. Press either:• AUTO to go to Auto mode (autopilot control), or.• STANDBY to return to Standby mode (manual control).

Applicability: The procedures on this card apply to ST70+ Pilot Controllers used with Raymarine SeaTalk and SeaTalkng autopilots ON SAIL BOATS only. They do NOT apply to ST70+ Instruments.

IntroductionThe ST70+ race timers provide:• Three race start count down timers, with default count down values as follows:

• Race Start 1 - 5 minutes• Race Start 2 - 4 minutes• Race Start 3 - 1 minute.

• A Race Time counter, which shows time elapsed since the start of the race. When the Race Start count down is complete, the Race Time counter counts up.If you want to set different times for the Race Start timers, use the procedure on the on the other side of this card.

Operating the timersBefore you can use the race timers, you must set up one of the eight instrument pages as a Race Start page. To do this, use the procedure on Card 17 to set up a single frame page containing Race Timer data. You can select the Race Timer data from the Time data group.

1. Select Race Start pageBefore the start of a race, use PAGE UP/PAGE DN to dis-play the Race Start page. This is displayed with Race Start timer 1 (Gun 1) timer active and the count down time displayed. If you want to use another timer, press CANCEL until the timer you want is active with the relevant start time dis-played.Note: Successive presses of CANCEL cycle around the Race Start options in the sequence Gun 1, Gun 2, Gun 3, Race Time counter, Gun 1 ... etc.

2. Start timerWhen the first gun fires, press OK to start the Gun 1 (default 5 minute) count down.If for any reason you cannot use the first timer (e.g. if you miss the first gun), use CANCEL to select the Gun 2 timer, then press OK to start the count down when the second gun fires.

3. Timer actionWhen you have started a race start timer, the displayed time counts down to 0:00 (race start). During this count down period, the buzzer:• Double beeps every minute.• Beeps three times at the start of the last 30 seconds.• Beeps once per second during the last 10 seconds of count down.• Gives a 2 second beep at 0:00.From 0:00, the displayed time counts up to show the time elapsed since the race start, to a maximum of 23 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds, and the page heading changes to Race Time.

Applicability: The procedures on this card apply to all configurations of ST70+ Instruments. They are NOT relevant to ST70+ Pilot Controllers.
