Reflections ˜ Reflexiones Gospel: Luke 12:32-48 or

12:35-40 One way Christians can prove that they are a people of faith is to live every day as though they expect Jesus to return. Today's Gospel urges us to be awake and on the watch like servants awaiting the master's return home. We should be "on guard" against anyone or anything that leads us astray from Christ. Since no one knows when the final judgment will happen, the wise person will always be prepared for it. 1.) If you read this Gospel again carefully, you will discover that Jesus is comparing himself to a thief! Just as we would "watch out" for a thief, so we must "watch out" for the coming of the Lord. One saint said of Jesus: "He steals our hearts!" However, we must be clear: Jesus always respects our freedom. We can say yes or no when he comes. The question is: When Jesus comes, will you want to keep your door closed, or open it up wide? Are you going to wait until the end of time to welcome Jesus, or can you begin today? How?

Evangelio: Lucas 12:32-48 o 12:35-40

¿Ahora?

Pastor s Message˜ Mensaje del Pa´rroco YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU

Dear Eleanor, Thanks for the birthday card. Now that I'm 83 life is full of experiences to cherish. I'm reading more and dusting less, and sitting in the yard to admire the view. I'm spending more time with family and friends. I use the good china and crystal to celebrate everything--losing weight, unstopping the sink, or the first amaryllis blossom. I wear my favorite perfume and good blazer to the market. It's great to say "Keep the change" and give good tips to people with dreary jobs. As a Saint Vincent de Paul volunteer I forget my aches and pains. No putting off, holding back, or saving what would add laughter and luster to life. I'm writing certain letters that I'd always intended to write. I tell the people closest to me that I love them. Every day is a gift from God and I thank God because it is so wonderful. Te quiere, Rosa Copyright (c) 2009, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

When Pope Pius XII died in 1958, there was the usual buzz of speculation about likely successors. Cardinal Agajanian, Patriarch of the Armenians, was highly thought of as a likely choice. This took many Catholics by surprise, since he had never celebrated the same liturgy as Pope Pius, but followed ancient Armenian customs according to the Eastern Church, which veils the Eucharisic liturgy from sight by a series of curtains, and in which the priest kneels while the people stand for Communion. In the years that followed, the Second Vatican Council would affirm the dignity and independence of the Eastern Churches, in complete union with Rome, yet different in patterns of life and worship. We have the same faith, the same sacraments, and the same pope. Yet everywhere in the world our separate Churches are combined into families held together by the ministry of bishops. All of this serves as warning: If you ever say, “But we’ve always done it this way,” you are on very thin ice indeed! —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J.
