My Dear Parish Family, Happy New Year, albeit a couple days late! My hopes and prayers for all of you is that this year brings a deepened relationship with Jesus for us all. The last few weeks have been filled with Christmas concerts and pageants, parties and celebrations that have carried us into January to this “little Christmas” or the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. This feast calls to mind the arrival of the Wise Men from the east who came to bring gifts to the newborn King… gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. These valuable items were standard gifts to honor a king or deity in the ancient world: gold as a precious metal, frankincense as perfume or incense, and myrrh as anointing oil. In addition to the honor and status implied by the value of the gifts of the magi, scholars think that these three were chosen for their special spiritual symbolism about Jesus himself—gold representing his kingship, frankincense a symbol of his priestly role, and myrrh a prefiguring of his death and embalming—an interpretation made popular in the well-known Christmas carol “We Three Kings.” As far as frankincense is concerned, it has been suggested that this fragrant resin from the bark of a tree, that burns completely symbolized the way Jesus would live his life, totally giving of himself for our sakes. Whatever the ancient gifts to Jesus were, today we must ask ourselves what are the gifts we bring to Jesus? What will we do this year and beyond to honor our Lord? Will we change our ways of speaking of others? Will we be more regular in our prayer – personal and public? Will we offer forgiveness instead of harboring grudges? The answers to these questions lie in our hearts. May our choices bring honor to our Lord. May God bless you. Fr. Scott

MENSAJE DEL PASTOR …

Querida Familia Parroquial:

Dios Los Bendiga. Fr. Scott
