Dear Bullfrog Families,
What a great start we have had to the 2019-2020 school year.
Our enrollment has increased by over 200 students this school
year and there is a sense of excitement across Lake Worth
Independent School District.
We are working closely to ensure our students receive an
engaging education across the district. Feedback from educators,
parents and families from across our district has been considered
as we set goals and make plans for our schools. In order for us to
continue to build on the gains we have made as a school district,
we are counting on continued support from our families and our
school community.

This past semester, the Marilyn Janice Miller
students and staff conducted a Fiesta Math Night.
Over 120 parents, students, and staff were in
attendance. The Fiesta Night consisted of fun math
games and activities for students and their families
to enjoy. MJM staff also provided parents with ideas
for developing a joy for math in the household.
We are committed to strengthening community, collaboration, and communication. Your continued
support and involvement only make our schools stronger. From offering full day Pre-Kindergarten to
continuing our partnership with Tarrant County College, we offer a continuum of enrichment
opportunities as we prepare our students for their futures. In the hallways of the Lake Worth ISD you
will find our educators, scientists, doctors, artists, and politicians of the future. We are Bullfrog
Strong!
Yours in Education,
Rose Mary Neshyba, Ed.D.

garden and the volunteers needed to help build the new learning center. MJM administration has
recently reviewed and approved plans for the Out Teach Garden and dates have been established for
the new build and for the training staff. For more information on Out Teach Gardens, please visit

Did you know school buses save hundreds of lives
each year and are an important part of the education
system?
Lake Worth ISD Facts:• LWISD transported approximately 1,534 students
last year and drove over 160,000 miles.
• We employ 30 bus drivers, 5 bus monitors and 3
mechanics who go through a 20-hr Bus Driver Safety
Certification course required by the State.
• LWISD reported ZERO injury accidents to TEA for
the 2018-2019 SY and in the last 15 years, we have
reported ZERO injury accidents.
What does LWISD Do to Stay Safe?• We are changing out old faded lenses and halogen lighting to new LED lighting.
• Every AM and every PM a Pre-Trip Inspection is done. The entire bus is walked, tires
checked, seats checked, lights, defroster, steering and the horn is inspected.
• We COUNT our students as they unload, we COUNT them as they cross the street or go
away from the bus.
• A Safety Meeting is held monthly for all Transportation employees. Several topics of safety
are discussed throughout the year. Including weather, road conditions, student management,
etc.

Professional development is important for educators as we continue to improve ourselves so that we
can provide the best education to all students at Lake Worth High School. To support learning, we
implemented Tuesday EdCamps for our faculty and staff. This training takes place on Tuesdays after
school three times per month and focus on instructional strategies that either the teachers have
requested or that administration believes will increase student growth. Our first EdCamp was led by
Lake Worth High School counselors and focused on teacher self-care. The inspiration for our most
recent EdCamp was the book, The Fundamental 5 by Sean Cain and Mike Laird.
This session introduced teachers to the first two steps of The Fundamental 5: framing the lesson and
working in the power zone. Introducing teachers to these two steps, is the beginning of a process to
increase the rigor in classrooms across campus. By using strategies like higher level questioning,
visual synectics, and Socratic seminars teachers are able to help students develop real world
connections to the content.

The LWISD Dyslexia department serves students who are served through an individualized program
to meet each students needs. On Wednesdays they tutor at the Lake Worth Public Library from
3:30-5:30. This is open to any student who has participated in Dyslexia services, or any currently
served students. The only requirement is that they bring material to tutoring that they are
struggling with. The department staff does not supply any work in an attempt to not disrupt the
flow of the district curriculum. There is no charge for tutoring for Lake Worth students. To learn
more, please contact Dr. Roquemore or visit www.lwisd.org.

Lake Worth High School students have GRIT and
we want to celebrate their determination to
succeed. GRIT is defined as the firmness of
character; indomitable spirit; perseverance and
passion; and tenacity.
Teachers nominate one male and one female from
each grade level to receive the award each six
weeks. Bullfrog students who exemplify the
definition of GRIT, demonstrate effort and hard
work and who have overcome challenges, receive
a certificate of accomplishment as well as a
Lake Worth High School GRIT Awardsby Assistant Principal Justin Matthews, LWHS
voucher from local businesses. In addition,
GRIT award recipients will have their picture
posted to the high school social media pages.
Our goal with this program is to promote a
positive culture at Lake Worth High School by
rewarding the growth and hard work of our
students.

Dinner with a Gentleman: LCMS
Two years ago we started a new tradition here at Collins Middle School called Dinner with
a Gentleman. The goal of this event was to honor any male individual in our student's lives
that have made an impact or have done anything to be a positive role model for them. Each
year the event grows and impacts many of the students that we serve at Collins. After the
event, we heard from numerous men and students how inspiring the event has been and
they were extremely appreciative that this event took place.
Through it, we were able to witness students open themselves up and invite fathers,
uncles, grandfathers, neighbors, teachers, and coaches and were excited that they were
able to treat them for once. We honor those who support and encourage our students.

This summer, Taylor Pruett participated in the
Clear the List movement. This started out as a
group on Facebook where teachers would help
other teachers get supplies for their classrooms
from their Amazon wish lists. Eventually, it grew so
big that celebrities started donating to teachers as
well. Through musician Casey Donahew's support,
Miss Pruett was able to get basic supplies, like
extra pencils, decorations for the classroom, and
even brand new books for my students to enjoy.

She was even featured on NBC News. "As a first year teacher it’s exciting, but I’m also nervous because it’s
hard to get everything that you need for your classroom. You’re starting from scratch, so this group has
helped get my classroom up and running," said Pruett.

N.A. Howry students and staff have Bullfrog pride!
Every Friday, different organizations visit the
campus to share words of encouragement, stress
the importance of making the right choices and
academic success. To date, LWISD Varsity Football
Team, Lady Bullfrogs Volleyball Team, and the
Bullfrog Drumline have served as ‘Bullfrog Buddies’.
The Bullfrog Buddies visit classrooms and share
their high school experience, the importance
of making good grades, and their fondest memories
as a 5th and 6th grader. As a motivator, the
Drumline marches throughout the hallways with the
5th and 6th class earning the best overall
attendance for the week.
To cap off the month of September, N.A.
Howry participated in all of the Homecoming
festivities from dressing up, attending the
game and winning the Mayors Award for Most
Spirited Float. Kudos to Howry’s Student
Council and staff for decorating the float,
creating cheers to show our school pride and
supporting our community event.
On 9-11, students and staff meet quietly at the
flagpole to hear the cadence played at 8:00
a.m. by our soldiers from the Naval Base.
Students were able to experience hearing the
National Anthem and beam with pride in
memory of liberty and freedom.
