Guynup Hired to Support Veterans, Military Personnel at Two Colleges

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Sept. 23, 2013)—Both SUNY Plattsburgh and Clinton Community

College will aid military veterans and service personnel with their unique needs.

SUNY Plattsburgh and Clinton Community College were both added to Victory Media’s

“2014 Military Friendly Schools” list, which honors the top 20 percent of colleges,

universities and trade schools that do the most work to support America’s military service

members and to ensure their success on campus.

Tracy Guynup serves both as SUNY Plattsburgh’s new veteran support coordinator and

Clinton Community College’s assistant registrar and veteran affairs coordinator.

As support coordinator, Guynup helps students navigate through unusual situations that

may arise, such as being called up for active duty in the reserves.

“Some folks are called up at a moment’s notice, and they mat not even have time to call

their family or professors. I can alleviate some stress by tying up some loose ends for

them,” says Guynup.

Guynup wants to help veterans feel more connected to their campuses, and is looking

forward to continuing the veteran’s clib at Clinton and starting the new one at Plattsburgh.

“I’m just trying to make the campuses more veteran friendly,” he added. Guynup works to

make veterans feel more connected to their campuses.

In addition to serving veterans and active personnel, Guynup serves military family

members as well.

“These individuals often move right along with the veteran or active duty personnel,” he

said. “Some of them also get the G.I. Bill and have plenty of questions about financial

processes and acclimating to become a college student and live the civilian life as well.”

Guynup’s SUNY Plattsburgh office is located on the eighth floor of the Kehoe building. His

hours are Monday through Friday from 1 to 4:30 p.m. At Clinton Community College, he is

in the Registrar’s Office Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 12 p.m..
