• First box prototype– Box design in July ‘03– Box produced during August ’03

• Tested last week in few fingers• Small changes necessary for

production• Next few pieces with implemented

changes ordered

• Remote control PCB– Designed in July ’03

• Readout via ELMB• Control via current loops &

ELMB DAC• Central clock for converters

– Components already assembled

– 6 layer PCB

LV supply prototyping

• Box assembly– All PCBs fits the box– Cabling work have started

LV supply prototyping

• Next steps & needs– Box mechanics

• Final design in progress• Next few pieces ~ 1 month• Full production 300 boxes ~ 2 months to deliver from the order• Price of box mechanics incl. heatsink max. 250CHF

LV supply prototyping

• Next steps & needs – cont.– DCDC converter bricks

• Ready to debug & “bring it to the work”• Work already started

– Transformers• One sample of new type ready• Needs redesign of PCB for 3.3V version• Looking for the best technology to cut out

secondary windings– ELMB motherboard

• Ready to test functions• Francisca will start software test 22nd of Sept.• Need to design converter clock transmitter• Need to build the “USA15 like” infrastructure

LV supply prototyping

• Next steps & needs – cont.– Cabling of box

• In progress ( work is done by Z. Kotek )• Output will be:

– Pinout of connector– Cable descriptions - documentation

LV supply – technical questions

• “Sense” wires– We have to see what is the voltage inside drawer especially most

current consuming channels– Drawer “sense” wiring is independent from LV box– We should not use the “sense” wires for LV brick feedback !

DANGER !

LV supply – technical questions

• Technical problem– Leak of residual water from connector to the electronics– Cannot be fitted by box or its components– Possible solutions:

• Sponge around connector• Blotter paper • Fixed tubes and connectors outside of box

LV supply pre-series

• 100 bricks production– Components ordered– PCB needs changes till the end of September to reach 15 Oct start of assembly– Alumina bars confirmed for middle of October– Transformers ?– Production ready first week of November

• 12 Remote control boards– Design phase – prototype ready to test– End of September should be tested– Changes necessary– End of october could be ready

• 12 Fuse boards– Ready– No problem to produce 12 pieces in one week

LV supply pre-series• 12 Boxes

– Estimation of time of delivery – End of October• Cabling of boxes

– In development– 12 sets of cables should be ready within 3 weeks since approval– 1 week to cable all boxes

• Cabling of drawers– Repining of connectors– Adding of 200V connector, aux connector & CANbus connector

• Emulated USA15 infrastructure– Need to be developed and produced

• Distribution boxes• Clock source• Current sources• Power supplies• Software

LV supply pre-series

• Putting things together– Bricks

• Burn-in necessary to do in the oven• Test setup needed for 8 – 10 bricks test in parallel

– Must be designed

– Final mount– Box test

• Dummy load ready• Test setup should be designed• 6 hours of run with 130% of nominal load is minimum

LV supply for TILECAL

• What is the goal of project ?– 256 working LV boxes in the pit – 10 years of reliable operation

• Reliability – High level of quality of design & production

• LV box pre-series for cosmic test– Nice but delay for final solution– Could lead to lower reliability of result

LV supply for TILECAL

• Schedule in MS Project– Still lot of unknown responsibilities– Unknown dates of delivery and production of

some pieces– Most of the points based on estimations– Don’t forget about complexity of system, brick

is not only the part !

HV comments

• TRACO news– 8 TRACOs dead during 2 years– TRACO company agrees that problem is on theirs side– They started to produce so called “2003 series” which is based on

our experience and fulfills specs– No will to replace TRACOs used in HV supply for free– But statistics ( 8 pieces from 280 wrong during 2 years) enables to

use HV supplies as they are with standard spare procedure and then repair damaged card by new version.
