« A la mar fui por naranjas » is the very first opus by the new group LA ÙLTIMA, created by Sylvie Paz and Diego Lubrano
Since 2012, they have been creating together a poetic language where jazz meets flamenco. Between these two worlds, their music blends and nourish each other.
Sylvie Paz, singer and composer, started with Hispanic music. For 20 years she is sailing in the currents of the Mediterranean music.
Diego Lubrano, flamenco guitarist and composer, migrates to jazz for several years.
Their common taste of melodies who speaks to the heart and the soul, has guided them to create songs where the bulería, swing, jazz waltz and tanguillo goes hand by hand towards new soundscapes...
The presence of these two universes are undeniable, however their outlines disappears. When their particularities meets with their own codes, a unique language takes form that evokes the imaginary.
All the titles are originals with text in Spanish. This new repertory has been built up over time and are the fruits of a close collaboration and a permanent exchange between the two composers.
The show titles the poetic name of a traditional Andalusian copla« A la mar fui por naranjas cosa que la mar no tiene, metí la mano en el agua, la esperanza me mantiene. »
« I went to the sea looking for oranges, but such a thing it doesn't possess. I put my hand into the water, as it is now hope that carries me. »
The aesthetic mix of this creation is also enriched by the presence of other notable musicians. Bernard Menu on bass and Xavier Sanchez on percussion.
