Think Like a Duck!

WELCOMEOn behalf of the Board of Directors for the West Michigan Chapter of the Project Management Institute, it is my privilege and honor to welcome you to the 2014 Professional Development Conference.

Our theme this year is “Think Like a Duck”, a day in leadership awareness. Our impressive lineup of speakers will help you better understand the behaviors, needs, and motivations of the people

you work with and for, to ensure the flawless execution of your next project’s goals and objectives.

David Barrett will help you discover the keys to your success as he shares with us lessons learned from a life time of project management and leadership. David’s dynamic and exciting approach to working with audiences of all types and sizes will keep us engaged and entertained while learning how to be better leaders.

Dr. Rick Forbus is no stranger to our chapter and will be sharing with us his insight on behavioral community-based action research techniques. Rick specializes in leadership coaching and team development equipping organizations in focus, and efficiency, by creating harmony and synergy.

Our own Ted Kallman will be showing us how Social Management Styles affect how we give and receive communications. He will show us how we can change our communication approach based on the style of the person we are trying to communicate with to increase the impact and results of our communications. He draws on his many years of experience in Executive, PM and Agile environments for stories that will help us understand how to use the distinct personality and management styles of each person on our team and in our chain of command to become better leaders and communicators. As Ted explains, when we learn to put ourselves in the mindset of the other leaders we work for and with (when working with a duck “Think Like a Duck”), our projects will soar.

We are very pleased and grateful that you chose to spend your day at our event! It is my sincerest hope that you will leave this conference feeling energized, refreshed and blessed not only with new knowledge, but new friends as well. Enjoy!

Tom Shaw
