Wysowa Zdrój is famous for its mineral therapeutic drinking water such as:

Franciszek, Józef, Henryk and Aleksandra. They can be found in the centre of

the Spa Park and are available for everybody. Mostly those are carbonated

water like: bicarbonate - chloride – sodium water and carbonate – sodium –

calcium water. “Wysowianka” mineral drinking water is based on those

carbonated waters. At the Health Resort diseases of respiratory, digestive and

urinary systems are treated. The students were informed about all of it while

they were visiting a Pump House and tasting mineral water there.

The Spa Park is full of beautiful trees, lichens and birds. A Biology teacher

helped the students to name different trees and lichens on their trunks. To do

this exercise students observed local flora and used special botanical atlases

and pocket guides of popular trees they took from school. They also learnt

about the pollution and its influence on the lichens, which are very sensitive to

polluted air.

The participants of the trip visited the Greek Catholic Parish Church in

Wysowa Zdrój too and saw the lime tree, which is “a natural feature of historic

importance”. The Biology teacher explained them the meaning of this term.

The students observed the birds and spiders in the Spa Park as well. A

blackbird, a woodpecker and a chaffinch are the most popular birds in

Wysowa Zdrój.

· A pocket guide of popular plants and animals.

· Worksheets.

· Lecture.

· Observation.

The students:

· Can name popular trees, lichens and birds.

· Can use botanical atlases and guides of popular plants and animals.

· Can assess the level of air pollution by observing the lichens on the tree

trunks.

· Know what the term “a natural feature of historic importance” means.

· Learnt about the mineral therapeutic water in Wysowa Zdrój and their

health value.

An outdoor Biology lesson should be preceded by students' own observations

of the nature in their nearest surroundings. At school students should be

presented how to name different plants species or birds using atlases and

guides.

An outdoor Biology lesson is a great occasion to:

· Observe the nature.

· Use different sources of information.

· Remember different information better.

· Spend time actively.

· Teach regional education.
