Share with MePart of my thesis from our current sermon series called “Conversations with Jesus” is nothing more than Jesus wants to have a conversation with you. Despite where one is in their spiritual journey, or no matter how distant one might seem from the church, Jesus wants to have a conversation with you. Often times these conversations push, challenge, and call us to raise our expectations as we talked about on Sunday with Peter. Nevertheless, I believe there is something more fundamental at stake in our conversations with Jesus. Simply put, Jesus wants us to open up and honestly express our stories with him. God wants us to not only share with Him our joys, celebrations, goals, and our hearts‟ desires, but also our hurts, pains, fears, bruises, and even scars. For example, when is the last time you openly shared with God what might be hiding underneath your shining, smiling face in the morning? Perhaps it really is love and grace. However, if we‟re honest, sometimes it is a recent hurt from a good friend, or a feeling of despair from a situation 5-10 years ago that we still cannot wrap our minds around. As I move forward in my ministry, it will be vitally imperative that my time is spent learning, studying, and absorbing as much as possible about the congregation. In fact, it might be even healthy if you perceived me slightly “annoyingly” interested as I am continuously asking questions and digging up the rich history of our church. In the meantime, I will need each of you to share your stories about FMCC. Just as the news is shaped differently depending on the source- CNN, FOX, NBC, each one of you brings a slightly different picture as well. Do not hesitate to make an appointment, drop by the office, or even send a quick morning email sharing: “The best times at FMCC…The most difficult times…When did the church feel most alive… The most impacting ministry that existed or needs to exist… What might need to be reexamined, stopped, or possibly rebirthed… Is there a fellowship activity or event that lies closest to your heart…Or, simply tell me about the „good, old days.‟” After I have gathered your stories and can make a more accurate living narrative of FMCC, sometime in the fall we will have a 3-fold sermon series which celebrates our past as well as anticipates a prosperous future at FMCC. My family is still very excited to be here, and we just know God‟s promise in the Book of Isaiah still reigns true for us today. Isaiah 43:19 “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” I look forward to hearing back from you and connecting the different voices that make up our loving church. “Share with Me” Part of my thesis from our current sermon series called “Conversations with

Jesus” is nothing more than Jesus wants to have a conversation with you. Despite where

one is in their spiritual journey, or no matter how distant one might seem from the

church, Jesus wants to have a conversation with you. Often times these conversations

push, challenge, and call us to raise our expectations as we talked about on Sunday with

Peter. Nevertheless, I believe there is something more fundamental at stake in our

conversations with Jesus. Simply put, Jesus wants us to open up and honestly express

our stories with him. God wants us to not only share with Him our joys, celebrations,

goals, and our hearts‟ desires, but also our hurts, pains, fears, bruises, and even

scars. For example, when is the last time you openly shared with God what might be

hiding underneath your shining, smiling face in the morning? Perhaps it really is love and

grace. However, if we‟re honest, sometimes it is a recent hurt from a good friend, or a feeling of despair

from a situation 5-10 years ago that we still cannot wrap our minds around.

As I move forward in my ministry, it will be vitally imperative that my time is spent learning,

studying, and absorbing as much as possible about the congregation. In fact, it might be even healthy if

you perceived me slightly “annoyingly” interested as I am continuously asking questions and digging up

the rich history of our church. In the meantime, I will need each of you to share your stories about

FMCC. Just as the news is shaped differently depending on the source- CNN, FOX, NBC, each one of you

brings a slightly different picture as well. Do not hesitate to make an appointment, drop by the office, or

even send a quick morning email sharing: “The best times at FMCC…The most difficult times…When did

the church feel most alive… The most impacting ministry that existed or needs to exist… What might

need to be reexamined, stopped, or possibly rebirthed… Is there a fellowship activity or event that lies

closest to your heart…Or, simply tell me about the „good, old days.‟”

After I have gathered your stories and can make a more accurate living narrative of FMCC,

sometime in the fall we will have a 3-fold sermon series which celebrates our past as well as anticipates a

prosperous future at FMCC. My family is still very excited to be here, and we just know God‟s promise in

up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

I look forward to hearing back from you and connecting the different voices that make up our

loving church. It‟s my prayer listening to you that my heart continues day-by-day to be interwoven with

your stories and becomes part of FMCC! In Christ,

During the months of July and August, Pastor Zach

will lead a discussion based study from the Lectionary

Texts.

BIBLE STUDY

Our choir is taking several weeks

off during the summer. We will

continue to have a good music program with outside

guests as well as some of our own people providing

special music.

We kick off the summer program with a piano

solo by JohnWillard Utuk on June 29. He will be

leaving for the University of North Florida in

Jacksonville in August where he will be working on

his master‟s degree in piano performance pedagogy.

On July 6, Bob Milligan will be playing a flute

solo for us. July 20 we will be thrilled to have Selena

Masters singing for us again while she is home from

Stetson College for the summer. On July 29 Norman

Jones will be our guest soloist. He has been here

several times before and is always a welcome guest.

Plans for our August guests are in the works,

but not yet finalized. They will be announced in the

Sunday bulletin.

In His Service,

Ruth Berry

CHANGE UP

Beginning this Sunday, July 6, there will be a new

bulletin that will more efficiently and effectively serve

our purposes at FMCC. Please know the worship team

has worked together with Zach evaluating the current

physical layout structure of the bulletin as well as flow/

structure of worship. It is our hope the new bulletin

will offer a simplicity that is user-friendly, being clean,

concise, and offering continuity. One noticeable

change will be the prayer concern list. The new

bulletin will only have the last two weeks of prayer

concerns. Instead, there will be a separate “prayer

pamphlet” in the narthex that will offer all of the

concerns which is taken from the Chalice. Every

month the prayer pamphlet will be updated along with

the Chalice’s prayer concerns.

~Worship Team

The first week of July we will close down our

sermon series called “Conversations with Jesus.” We

will focus on how sometimes we simply mess up, but

Jesus calls us back in relationship with Him. Not only

do I hope everyone can relate to one or more of the

conversations with Jesus, but also I pray these sermons

enhance your time communicating with God.

During the majority of our time together in

July, it will be spent highlighting and celebrating a few

key beliefs in The Christian Church (Disciples of

Christ). Although there are not many “loyalists” in

any denomination and especially in younger

generations, I believe The Christian Church (DOC) has

a hallmark identity and practices that have the ability

to reach new people for Christ. Once again, let us

reveal "The Best Kept Secret."

WEEKLY SCHEDULE

REACHING OUT

During the past month, I have been in conversation

with Myerlee Manor (a seniors living center) to begin a

worship service there. This will allow us to not only

stay connected and minister to some of our members

who are unable to join us on Sunday mornings, but

also serve as an opportunity to share God‟s message to

others in our community. This will be an abbreviated

worship service that includes: prayer, Scripture, brief

homily, Communion, and possibly one to two songs.

Services are tentatively scheduled for the 1st and 3rd

Sundays of the month at 1:15 PM. If you would like to

sing or play a musical instrument on a Sunday, please

let me know!

START YOUR DAY OFF RIGHT!

On Wednesday mornings, we will be

sending a Mid-Week E-Devotion to

your current email address. So enjoy

your favorite cup of coffee and have

a CONVERSATION with God. Please note that we

have been given copyright permission to send out

devotions from the premiere devotional book, Daily

Feast: Meditations from Feasting on the Word. This is

intended for your own spiritual growth during the

week as well as it will be connected into Zach‟s

Sunday School class in July and August.

Marjorie J. Thompson, author of Soul Feast:

An Invitation to the Christian Spiritual Life, endorses

this devotional by saying “[Daily Feast] provides a

simply structured way to enter into deeper reflection

on the weekly texts of the Revised Common

Lectionary. Gathering pithy, insightful, often

provocative quotes from gifted contemporary

theologians and teachers, it presents a daily path into

personal reflection and prayerful response to the

profoundly challenging and joyful message of the

gospel." -Zach

Florida Regional Ministers Juan Rodriguez

and Lori Lynn Wachter came to Fort Myers

for a Meet and Greet with Pastor Zach and

area pastors, both retired and active.

July and August begin “Ordinary

Time” in the church calendar. The color

for this season is green and it runs until

November 29th. Ordinary Time has a

few special Sundays, but it is mostly a

time for us to reflect on our everyday worship and

commitment to a life more pleasing to the Lord.

It‟s a time to reflect and to renew, to make the

necessary changes to improve our communication

with God. As the church moves forward, I hope

each of us is also able to move forward in service

and support of our faith and our church.

EVANGELISM MINISTRY

WANDA MILLIGAN, TEAM LEADER

A busy year is shaping up for all of

us here at FMCC. This is especially true

for the Evangelism Ministry. We have

lots of work ahead for all of us here at

the church. Now that Pastor Zach is here

to lead us we need to be ready to work with him in

setting goals for the future of FMCC. We will be

looking for new programs to bring new people into our

congregation. We would love to hear about your ideas

and thoughts on how we might do this. Think and talk

to me about what you think about ideas for

Evangelism. In your conversations with God during

the next few weeks talk to Him about the needs of our

congregation. We have all just been in a holding

pattern and now we can begin to plan for this next

year.

We will have the Visiting Nurses Association

(VNA) here on Wednesday, September 24 for our

annual FLU shots. They will be here from 1-3 on that

day. So mark your calendar so you won't miss that

day! We offer this opportunity for our congregation

and our community. The VNA will accept insurance

cards or cash. It is important to have your flu shot

early to get maximum coverage for the flu season.

Enjoy the summer! Come to church every

Sunday that you can. We miss you when you aren't

here! See you at the Youth's Ice Cream Social this

summer--Saturday, July 26.

CCMI are very much appreciated. PROPERTY UPDATES RICK LAUGHMAN We called for service on air conditioning units

and found we have more serious problems. One of the

units that is causing problems was installed in 1997. If

the unit was repaired, there would not be any

warranty. However, it was decided to install new unit

which will now be under warranty. Also, the cooling

units have to discharge water into drain. For this to be

done properly, cement is going to be cut and new drain

pipe will be in place and drain into pit in ground. This

should take care of foul smell in ladies restroom. This is

going to be major expense that was not in the budget for

2014-2015. The air conditioning unit will cost $5700

(includes material and labor) and the new drain pipe and

cement work will cost $760.

On Sundays July 27 and August 3 we will

receive donations for school supplies.
