Gold Key Revisited

My thanks to Kateline, Kattera, Eleanor, Hannah, Carynsa, Etienne and Betho’c for their ideas regarding our Gold Key.

There is general agreement that the Barony should eliminate the 10 giant tubs of unique items and re-

place them with simple tunics. The tunics, in Baronial colors, would be made in washable fabric that is

easily cared for.

As for the elimination phase, two options have been proposed:

Sell the current Gold Key items for a minimal price and use the funds to purchase fabric for the

new tunics to replace them.

Give away the items to any Scadian, whether in this Barony or another.

I propose that the Council decide the following at the May Council meeting:

Whether to eliminate the current Gold Key horde and, if so,

How to handle the elimination – sale or give away?

Yours in Service to the Dream

Newcomer Badge & Bags

I want to bring forward an idea that I understand the Council approved approximately four years

ago – a badge to identify newcomers and mentors who volunteer to answer questions.

The badge was designed and registered by Kattera Gleese, with a blanket approval for its use by other

groups and several are using it with positive results.

Having the badge design printed on fabric will allow us to attach it to pilgrim bags and offer a bag to a

newcomer. The bag could also contain site information, a bottle of water and other helpful items. The

Chatelaine, and any mentors who volunteer, would wear a slightly differentiated badge on a baldric

thus making it easy for a newcomer to identify them when questions arise.

If the Council agrees, I would like to gather information as to the cost and time required to create the

Newcomer Bags and Mentor Baldrics, and then return with a proposal for the Council to consider.

Yours in Service to the Dream,

Valkyrie Kaarinsdottir, OP

fficer reports Seneschal report The past month has seen a excellent first court event and the new sergeantry candidates-14 of them. It is that time again where we ask people to let us know what they feel the state of the barony is - please feel free to contact me or the cornets privately or electronically if you have feedback . Our next major event is the Heavy and Rapier championship and Demo in June - please get in contact with David Hemmer to help. There have been changes to the application procedure for event insurance- if you are running an event or planning to please check out the updated procedure at SCA.org. YIS Kattera Giese

YAFA Report Good gentles of the baronial council, I have been working with our Kingdom officers to get into the system for coordinating the tokens for our youth. I have finally gained that access and reached out to the families and mentors via email to see if there is anything needed to help them. I have also been in contact with those of Dragon's Mist about helping them as well as needed. I have one youth in particular in our barony who has completed 2 more tokens and will be seeing them soon to be handed out. As always I am interested in hearing from anyone who might be willing to teach a class or help mentor a youth for their advancement with YAFA. If you are interested please contact me at [email protected]. Your in service, Beak Bell of Dumfries, AOA, OGdS, OJdL Baronial Youth and Family Activities Officer Barony of Three Mountains

Armor Report Greetings, Armor workshop is still going strong. The turnouts have been great. Not only have we gotten some new-er/refreshed blood, but we have also had Sir Einar drop by for some needed Chivalry advice. I have been opening the shop during the week on special requests to those that cannot make the Satur-day time slot. This has been something we have always done but there seems to be more need currently. During First Court, it came to my attention that none of my reports have gotten to the Barony for the last 3 years......As we can tell, this has been remedied. :) I still have every sign in sheet since I took on this role so if those are needed please let me know. 3 Mountains Archery Report, April 2019

Greetings and salutations to the populace and their Excellencies,

Practices are due to begin on Wednesday April 3rd in Washington Park at approximately 530pm. The prac-

tice is weather depending and start time is traffic depending. This season’s practices will be held at Wash-

ington Park.

The focus for this season is twofold. My first area is to encourage some new (or returning) archers to in-

crease our numbers. My second area of focus is to continue to encourage the growing group of serious

archers we developed over the winter and to this end, put in IKAC scores (Inter Kingdom Archery Chal-

lenge). An Tir held 4 spots in the top ten (for ALL the Known World)! I think we could add a few names to

that list. An Tir contains awesome archers!

I am looking at improving the loaner gear, the bows specifically. Hopefully by council in April I will have a

proposal drafted.

As always, I am available (for free) by schedule for line time, be it focused coaching or just getting started.

Ideally, it is easiest when several people are interested and we can all agree on a date and time.

Chatelaine’s Report

To the Coronet, Officers, Council and Populace of Three Mountains

It is my pleasure to inform the Council that Lady Hannah Tobias has agreed to be my Deputy. Newcomer con-tacts:

One newcomer, Campbell, was introduced at Social Night by his partner, Etienne le Marchand,

who is originally from Adiantum.

Marie de la Mere is another Scadian from afar who is now part of our Barony.

Social Night:

Nineteen people attended. Many of whom were there for Roana’s excellent class.

My post about our Gold Key collection elicited a response from Betho’c of Ravenswood, who has recently

returned to Three Mountains after an extended absence. She has already invested significant time in

cleaning and repairing the costumes in 8 of the 10 boxes. Then she put all of the details in a spreadsheet.

Betho’c sent me a digital copy of the inventory and later drove across town for the sole purpose of bring-

ing a hard copy to me at Social Night. I want to say Thank you, Betho’c, and I hope you will join us far

more often!

Those last two giant tubs of Gold Key were opened at Social Night by Carynsa Leland, who

described each item for the inventory, with supportive commentary by Etienne le Marchand.

Social Night Committee

Thank you to Hannah and Etienne for spending an evening with me, generating ideas regarding Social Nights. There is still time to send ideas to [email protected]. I plan to bring a report to the Council for their consideration at the May meeting.

KaldorNess Seneschal The Canton of Kaldorness has been percolating along this month, mostly doing some personal gear maintenance, Arts and Sciences, and gatherings. In March we had a Customary meeting, a business meeting, a woodworking day, a decor day and a scribal day as well as supplying decor to good stewards for Kingdom A&S and 3M's First Court. At our last business meeting, we discussed upcoming events (we will be helping out with brute squad at upcoming Three Mountains and local events, supplying some decor for Dragons Laire (June Faire) and helping the stewards with several tasks at May Crown. We also discussed revisions to our customary, our website, and our Sept Demo and our August Event both happening later this summer and copy will be coming out on those this month. We are ready to submit our petition to Kingdom for our Move to Shire, pending a couple of bits of info to be clarified from the Kingdom Exchequer this week and a last change and check of our Customary. As Seneschal, I have been added to the Canton checking account and have updated the customary as well as requesting insurance for both of the Canton's upcoming events. I have also submitted my Kingdom Re-ports for the Quarter. This month with a family emergency back east and various non SCA activities, I did not get much more done. Three Mountains Heavy and Rapier Championship Demonstration Greetings to their most glorious Excellencies, the officers and populace of Three Mountains, Planning continues for the Three Mountains Heavy and Rapier Championship Demonstration on June 1st, 2019. A site walk has been completed and measurements taken to plan a map of the event. This map has been published to the current staff and coordination is ongoing. We did find that we will most likely not need portable biffies as there are large bathrooms with 6 stalls in each right inside the doors off of the Yard where the event will be held. I have been remiss in notifying the citizens that this day trip event will be a dry site. Please keep this in mind when packing for the event. Since this is a demo, feel free to make your picnic at this event one that can be remembered by folks who are meeting us for the first time. We do have jobs that need to be filled for this event and your help would be greatly appreciated:

· If you have a craft or skill that can be presented to the public, especially one that can be hands on to newcomers, we want you to join the team. Contact myself, Roana or Valkyrie and we will get you into the mix. · If you are a bard or performer we are attempting to have some period storytelling and music available. · Brute Squad is needed as parking will be scarce in this neighborhood, and we want to help folks drop their gear fast so that they can go and park · It would be nice to have Gold Key available for folks coming to the event. This is not a require-ment, but half the fun is getting newcomers into the spirit. · Gate is in need of a coordinator and staff. This event has no gate fee, however we still need folks to handle waivers and maybe even take donations as some do at free events. · A List Person is needed for both the Heavy and the Rapier Championship tournament · Field and Court Heralds are needed · A site ambiance coordinator would also be quite helpful.

We will also be passing out flyers in mid-May to the residential neighbors of Taborspace to let them know they are welcome to join us and some help being a roaming chatelaine would be great! Yours In Service To The Dream Sebastiaen des Roseaux Event Steward
