Some of the greatest achievements are completed not in the publics eye, but behind closed doors, in the classroom. This is true of the seniors of Kiowa County High School. Yes, there were many student athletes who received recognition for the accomplishments on the playing field, but there were also student athletes who achieved personal bests, although no one knew. Student scholars were recognized at the honors ban-quet for their impressive record in their classes while others were grateful to finish, to make it through, peri-od. The one thing they all have in com-mon is that they achieved. They achieved the goals they had set out to reach, they did the best they could and will walk across the stage with their heads held high. Each student will have their own memories of their years at KCHS. Some will be joyful, others tearful, some will have regrets for the what ifs, others will know they gave their all, but for each there will be achievements and memo-ries. The graduation ceremony took place on Sat., May 10, at 1:30 p.m. in the KC gymnasium. As these 21 students crossed the stage to have their tassles transfered, they will forever be known as the first class

to spend four years as Mavericks. The class selected turquoise and silver as their col-ors and the Gerbera Daisy as their class flower. “You live your life only once, but if you live it right, once is enough.” is their theme. Ushers, who were selected by the class, are Maddie Cannon, LaTosha Tuttle, Cole Kendall and Nick Mull. John Colclazier, class President, began the ceremony welcoming family and friends to the 2014 KCHS Grad-uation Ceremony. High school Principal, Randy Fulton

presented the class honors, followed by the Salutatorian speech given by Riann Heft, daughter of Steve and Kristi Heft and the Valedictorian speech given by Heather Melton, daughter of Doug and Mary Melton. The high school choir, directed by Mrs. Kim Stewart, provided special music for the ceremony, singing “Walk Together Children,” arr. by Ken Berg. Ms. Claire Mullender’s high school band welcomed and sent the class off with a rousing rendition of “Pomp and Circumstance,” by Edward Elgar. And so another chapter closes in the

lives of these 21 students, what lies ahead will be met head on, for these students are achievers.

senior Class of 2014[ ]

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered.Love them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God;It was never between you and them anyway.
