What is telephone counselling?Telephone counselling is like other forms of counselling. For CRANAplus Bush Support Services it refers to psychological services that occur on the telephone. The advantage of the telephone counselling service provided by CRANAplus Bush Support Services is that it overcomes the tyranny of distance often encountered when working remote. It is free, confidential, anonymous and can be tailored to suit individual needs of callers. Research has shown that telephone counselling can be as effective as face to face counselling. Telephone counselling has been established as an effective treatment for a large range of diagnoses from depression and anxiety to agoraphobia.So if you are feeling like a chat or there is something on your mind call CRANAplus Bush Support Services.

 

What do we do?CRANAplus Bush Support Services provides a free telephone counselling, debriefing, psychological intervention and support service to rural and remote area health professionals and their families. Due to isolation, remote area health professionals chronically face high levels of occupational stress. If you require on-going support, Bush Support Service psychologists can offer you structured, regular support with the same psychologist.

who are we?CRANAplus Bush Support Services is a twenty-four hour, 7 day per week telephone counselling service. It was established in 1997 orginally through funding from the Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Service. It is now funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health and is the Support Division of CRANAplus (www.crana.org.au). Bush Support Services is staffed by eleven highly trained and experienced psychologists (including two aboriginal psychologists) and supported by two administrative staff.

Our DVD“Have you got a minute?”is the opening line in the CRANAplus Bush Support Services DVD, which promotes our confidential 24-hour telephone service. It is supported by actor Jack Thomson, who provided the voiceover, and funded by the Australian Government, and has been a major project for CRANAplus Bush Support Services.

We outreach to remote area workers by running fun activities such as stress buster and well-being competitions.We offer self care workshops tailored to meet the client’s needs.
