MapDirector’s Letter Welcome to our 9th Festival! We have a real treat for you this year! This year, we are proud to welcome two distinguished guests from Aardman Animations: Paul Kewley (Producer) and Richard Phelan (Co-Director) of A SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE: FARMAGEDDON.

We are delighted that Paul and Richard will be participating in a Q & A after the screening – this is a great opportunity for anyone who is passionate about animation and we would like to thank Aardman Animations, STUDIOCANAL and Element Pictures for their support for this screening.

We are thrilled to have received so many films from Irish and international animators and student animators this year. Over 50 films were submitted by students studying animation in third-level colleges, Institutes of Art and Design and universities. Our overseas panellists were impressed by the quality of the submissions from the Irish students – it made their task this year a challenging one!

The festival is growing in popularity and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council for their support since 2011. Huge thanks also to Boulder Media, Clearstory International, the Pavilion Theatre, dlr LexIcon, Luminosity, Xhail, Ona Mansfield Design, and Stuart Parker whose generosity has made it possible to continue to hold the festival in Dún Laoghaire 2019. We are already looking forward to our 10th festival in 2020!

We would also like to introduce Jennifer Kidd and Lindsay J. Sedgwick to you – we have wonderful plans to work with them in 2020!

Finally, love and thanks to my family and friends who help me to make things happen!

Jennifer Kidd Jennifer Kidd has arrived in Dublin to hold a two day intensive advanced puppet fabrication workshop! At this workshop you will learn how to build an articulate puppet that can withstand hours of animation!

After graduating from DIT where she did her BA in Fine Art, Jennifer moved to London where she continued to improve on her practice. Since then she has worked with some of the animation industry’s best animators and model makers, creating stop motion installation works which were exhibited internationally and through which she lived in Berlin where she did a residency to create new work.

Last year she graduated from the Royal College of Art where she did an MA in Animation and throughout her MA she worked on ‘Isle of Dogs’ where she gained experience as a 3rd AD and worked on ‘Chuck Steel, Night of the Trampires’ as an art department assistant. Since graduating she has worked at BAFTA award winning Factory Create in the puppet department on a new kids’ TV series called ‘Norman Picklestripes’ which will soon be screened in the UK and has been the lead prop master and set builder for ‘Ghost Sonata’ a short stop motion animation, which was directed by Luc Toutounghi, the creative producer for ‘Peter and the Wolf’.

Currently she is working again at Factory Create while also having her own studio in London and will soon be back out to China on another stop motion film where she will be one of the directors, however the project cannot be named at this time.
