DiCIt IIOOYCOMBE An alert ll-year-ol~ Maire schooi student re- turning home for lunch, prevented a serious fire at ' his home, 1049Yorkshire road, Grosse Pointe Park, at noon yesterday, when he ran nearly a block to ring an alarm box. The lad, curly-headed 44Sandy" Malcomson, was definitely the hero of the day, for according to Edward Rector, assistant Park fire chief, "Ten minutes more, a-nd that would have been a very dangerous fire." USandy's" mother, Mrs. George W. Malcom- son, and his sister, Jane, 18, were in the house at the time, but apparently were unaware of the blaze until USandy" arrived. Rector stated that sparks pouring from a broken flue had landed on the shingled roof and ignited it. Damage was estimated over $150. The third floor rooms of the house are unfurnished and' used for storage space, Mrs. Malcomson told fire- men.. "I was a little lat~ fer lunch," "Sandy" ex- plained, as he related how he breathlessly ran down the block and pulled the alarm box at Yorkshire and Maumee avenue. "Today was my sister's birth- day, too," he sighed, cCWJlat a ~'.' ~':""'"-~.,:~~!t_"*-: - '. S,. DiCIt IIOOYCOMBE

An alert ll-year-ol~ Maire schooi student re-turning home for lunch, prevented a serious fire at 'his home, 1049Yorkshire road, Grosse Pointe Park,at noon yesterday, when he ran nearly a block toring an alarm box.

The lad, curly-headed 44Sandy" Malcomson, was definitely the hero of the day, for according toEdward Rector, assistant Park fire chief, "Tenminutes more, a-nd that would have been a verydangerous fire."

USandy's" mother, Mrs. George W. Malcom-son, and his sister, Jane, 18, were in the house at thetime, but apparently were unaware of the blazeuntil USandy" arrived.

Rector stated that sparks pouring from abroken flue had landed on the shingled roof andignited it. Damage was estimated over $150. Thethird floor rooms of the house are unfurnished and'used for storage space, Mrs. Malcomson told fire-men..

"I was a little lat~ fer lunch," "Sandy" ex-plained, as he related how he breathlessly ran downthe block and pulled the alarm box at Yorkshireand Maumee avenue. "Today was my sister's birth-day, too," he sighed, cCWJlat a ~'.'
