Dear CPWC members, Well, the brisk days of fall seem to have melted into the warm days of December which gives you all perfect weather to 'connect' at one of our holiday events this month! First, Missy and I want to thank Jean Ann McCarthy for opening her gorgeous new home to the membership for our November program 'Making Connections with Friends, Food and Wine'. The program committee did an outstanding job yet again. We enjoyed an introduction and toast by Jeremy Vester then members were free to choose pairings of wine and food at a variety tasting stations. We are also happy to announce the Art for the Park event raised $7,000 for McFarlane this year! Kudos again to Lynn Thompson and her amazing committee for another successful fundraiser. Speaking of fund raising the Valentine Gala is just around the corner, on February 7. Danna will be posting volunteer opportunities in the near future. You can find down loadable donation forms on the website and Facebook pages. Also, we have included a copy of the letter and donation form here in the newsletter for use when soliciting donations for the auction. Just print the last two pages and go! If you frequent a business, have family or friends that have an item, service or skill they are willing to donate please ask if they will contribute to this great cause. Every little bit helps to make this an outstanding and fun event for the membership but an equally great opportunity for us to have a real impact on families at risk in our own backyard. Our next program will be our Holiday Gift & Cookie Exchange. This will be held at Julie Grasso's home on December 12 so if you wish to participate bring a wrapped gift to exchange and cookies to swap!! Clothing for the women of the Drake House will be collected as well! The CPCA and CPWC will be hosting a Yule Log party at McFarlane Park on Sunday, December 14 at 4:30 p.m. Santa will be there and you can enjoy games, goodies and hot chocolate while singing a few holiday tunes! Evening group will be held at Shea Amins on Tuesday, December 9. Janie has two activities planned for the members that night, expert advice on cookie decorating from Veronica of Sugarbenders and a glazing project directed by Heather Rees. Please make sure to RSVP to all of our events as soon as possible. Our hostesses work very hard to provide amazing events for all of us to enjoy and need to plan accordingly. Missy and I wish you all a happy and healthy holiday and look forward to a wonderful New Year! By Janie Kissling The CPCA and CPWC are co-sponsoring a family

holiday event--the Yule Log bonfire on Sunday ,

December 14 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at McFar lane

Park. There will be hot cocoa and cookies plus caroling

and a visit from Santa. Don't make your kids wait in line

at the mall for a visit with Santa. You can get a photo of

your child with Santa at the Yule Log. There will be

games for the kids like Pin the Nose on Rudolph with

prizes. And of course, the large bonfire is always fun!!!

Don't Forget to make this activity a fun priority for

your whole family. Questions? Call Janie Kissling at

The Charity Committee is busy, busy, busy preparing for the Valentine’s Gala on February 7, 2015. This is such a fun event and will truly be a time to con-nect with our community, our friends, and our Valentines! Be on the lookout for your invitation to arrive by mail near the end of the month.

We need your help with the silent and live auctions! Please contact Amy McConnell [email protected] for forms to drop by your favorite local businesses. Or if you would like to donate a week at your vacation home, we would appreciate it so much! All proceeds from the Valentine’s Gala benefit The Drake House in Roswell. The Drake House pro-vides short-term crisis housing, education and empowerment programs for homeless mothers and their children designed to assist the family in working toward self-sufficiency. Since opening the doors, The Drake house over 300 families have been served, with over 560 children. Each family is provided a private, fully furnished one or two bedroom apartment, which allows the family to remain intact in a safe, secure setting. Residential housing and in-depth assessments are provided to 40 -50 families per year. Each family resides between 90 and 180 days. Mothers may be unemployed or underemployed, lacking sufficient income to meet all of their expenses, and are referred to The Drake House through a third-party verification system in order to prove homelessness. In addition to our many silent auction items, we will also hold a 50/50 raffle drawing the night of the Gala. Tickets will be available before Christ-mas — just in time for the holidays! Tickets would make great gifts for all of your hard-to-buy-for family and friends at just $25 each. For more infor-mation or tickets, please contact Lisa Krueger: [email protected] or Danna Vach [email protected].

By Janet Thomas Thanks to Sarajane Flethcher for hosting last month’s First Friday gathering. And most recently, the Kiblers opened their home to a plain

-wearing holiday crowd. Always a warm, fun and casual neighborhood gather-ing! January’s First Friday is scheduled for Janu-ary 2 at 7pm.

However ... Desperate is a strong word, but … we are in strong need of host homes for both our Janu-ary and February gatherings! Please consider

opening your home! Please contact Liz Hall at [email protected] or Nicole Barry at [email protected] who are kind enough to coordinate these events for us! As always, please rsvp for the First Friday and bring an appetizer and drink to share! Join in!

By Janie Kissling Thanks to Pat Smith for opening her home for the last Evening Group event! And additional thanks to Karin Guzy for demonstrating how to make a sea-sonal live flower arrangement and for answering so many of our random gardening questions! She put brussel sprouts in the arrangement! Can you believe it? We learned that the produce department is a great place for arrangement materials — to include persimmons, artichokes, and lady apples! We had great fun together and learned a lot! Please join us

for the next event! This month’s Evening Group will meet this Tuesday, December 9 at Shea Amin's house,

4508 Chattahoochee Planta-tion Drive , at 7:00 p.m.! Veronica from Sug-arbenders Bakery will be there to demonstrate icing sugar cookies and Heather Rees will help us transform plain glass into a thing of beauty using mercury paint. Bring a plain small glass or plate or picture frame (to turn into a tray). You can buy an inexpensive picture frame at Rescued Too up at Paper Mill Village. RSVP to Janie at

Evening book club

By Janet Thomas

October’s Evening Book Club went on a field trip! After reading Ro-swell: History, Haunts, and Legends by Dianna Avena, they journeyed to Roswell to attend the Roswell Ghost Tour!

In November the club read The Invisible Bridge by Julie Orringer.

And on December 16, Suzanne Deery will be hosting the club as they discuss Behind the Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo. Veronica Bridges coordinates this club. Please connect with Veronica if you would like to participate at [email protected]!

By Elizabeth Cooper

The Daytime Book Club enjoyed a lovely breakfast at Judy Winchell’s home in October.

In November we read Orphan Train by Christina Kline followed by a discussion at Nancy Mitchell’s!

And ON December 8, our club gathered for a Holiday Luncheon. We also gathered our book donations for gifts for the children at Brumby

Elementary School!

Our next meeting is on Mon-day, January 12 at 10a.m., and we'll be discussing The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. Please contact Eliza-beth Cooper at [email protected] to visit or join our club!
