A Message from the President
Welcome to this production by the Sharon Bands. Both of our ensembles, the Sharon Concert Band and the Roy Scott Big Band are committed to bringing you a quality live music experience. From its humble beginnings in 1988 as a small contingent of local musicians, our organization has grown to be a regional artistic force, drawing talented musicians from all over Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
We are very fortunate to attract very talented volunteer musicians from throughout the region who are eager to be a part of the Sharon Bands experience. They all have “day jobs”, but are willing to work hard, attend weekly rehearsals, and in their spare time practice our challenging music in order to allow our ensembles to excel. None are paid, they freely commit their time and effort for the love of the music. In addition many members also volunteer to perform the wide range of tasks required to manage our operations and produce our concerts. Without their dedicated service we could not function.
We are also blessed to have the inspired leadership of Steve Bell serving as our Artistic and Music Director. His commanding presence on the podium is just the “tip of the iceberg”. Steve brings extensive experience, outstand-ing musicianship, and most importantly great passion to our endeavors, and spends countless hours planning concert programs. Over his nine seasons he has challenged us to reach new heights and inspires us to be the best we can be.
But all would be for naught without our loyal and generous supporters. The essence of live music is an engaged and enthusiastic audience. With-out you, what we do would be meaningless. As a non-profit arts organiza-tion, the financial support of our advertisers and sponsors is also critical. So if you like what you hear, please consider becoming an ongoing friend of the Band. Come back for another concert (and tell others to come too), support our advertisers, or perhaps even consider joining our growing ranks of sponsors.
Thank you for attending, and enjoy the show.

About the Bands
The Sharon Bands were founded in 1988 by the late Roy Scott, under the auspices of the Sharon Recreation Department. They have grown from a handful of Sharon residents to over 60 musicians from many area communities ranging in age from early teens to eighties. Our members include developing students, adults who have picked up their instruments after many years, musicians with professional training and experience, and music teachers.
They come together because this organization offers one of the best opportunities in the area to make quality music in a collegial atmosphere.
The Sharon Concert Band plays symphonic band repertoire and the Roy Scott Big Band specializes in swing, jazz, and dance music.
Sharon Bands in the Community
As a community arts organization, the Sharon Bands are committed to bringing a quality live music experience to Sharon and the surrounding communities, The Bands produce a variety of innovative indoor concerts during the fall and winter months. During the summer, you will find the bands performing summer concerts at a number of band stands throughout the region. Membership in the band is open to area musicians from talented youth to senior citizens and everyone in between.
The Sharon Bands also support local and charitable organizations by performing at reduced rates or in some cases performing for free. An essential part of our mission is to give back to the community to the extent allowed by our limited finances. Your financial support will enable us to continue and even expand this vital activity.
