From Fr. Jim … The Baptism of the Lord Today we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord, the last Sunday of the Christmas Season and the first Sunday of ordinary time. Remember your own baptism. Take time to celebrate your baptism and that of anyone with whom you live. We reprint this prayer that can help you to do that: 1. Light your Baptismal Candle and that of anyone in your household. 2. Sing: Baptized in water, sealed by the Spirit. Marked with the sign of Christ our King. Born of one Father, we are God’s children, Joyfully now God’s praise we sing. 3. Make the Sign of the Cross on each other’s forehead like the Priest or Deacon did when you were baptized. 4. Read today’s Gospel: Luke 3:15-22 5. Renew your Baptismal Promises: Leader: Do you believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth? All: I DO. Leader: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary, suffered death and was buried, rose again from the dead and is seated at the right hand of the Father? All: I DO. Leader: Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting? All: I DO. Leader: This is our faith. This is the faith of the Church. We are proud to profess it in Christ Jesus, our Lord. All: Amen. 6. Sing the Opening Song again and then blow out your candles. The Year of Mercy Pope Francis Year of Mercy Quote of the Week: We celebrate the Solemnity of the Baptism of the Lord this weekend. Pope Francis proclaimed: “It is important to keep this desire [for God] alive, this longing to behold the Lord and to experience Him, to experience his love, to experience his mercy! If one ceases to thirst for the living God, faith is in danger of becoming a habit, it risks being extinguished, like a fire that is not fed. It risks becoming “rancid,” meaningless.” (Address, Meeting with Catechumens, November 23, 2013) Reflect on these words so that the faith that was given us in our own Baptism does not become rancid or meaningless, no, be set on fire anew! Readings for Next Week:SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

First Reading: Isaiah 62:1-5 Isaiah prophesizes that Jerusalem will again be held in high esteem by God. He states that all nations will witness its glory. He compares a groom's joy toward his bride to the joy that God will feel toward Jerusalem.

Second Reading: I Corinthians 12:4-11 Paul discusses the different gifts and talents bestowed upon different individuals. He explains that each individual receives various talents so that everyone can contribute something to society.

Gospel: John 2:1-11Jesus and Mary attended a wedding where Mary informed Jesus that there was no more wine. At first he said it did not concern him, but then he turned several jugs of water into wine. His disciples were also present, and believed in him more strongly after they witnessed the first sign of glory he revealed to them.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) RCIA is the process by which baptized Christians and those who are not baptized become members of the Catholic Church. It is also the process by which baptized Catholics who never received the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation receive those sacraments. Do you feel God calling you to have a deeper relationship with Him? Call the Parish Office at 410-398-1100 to learn more about this process.

Did you know?! Saint Genevieve is the Patron Saint of Paris! Saint Genevieves was a strong, courageous woman who saved Paris on more than one occasion. For example, when Attila the Hun was invading, Genevieve persuaded the people to repent, fast, and pray rather than flee the city. Upon hearing the vast number of people, the barbarian changed his course and the city was saved! In November 2015 there were multiple attacks on Paris. There are still ways YOU can help those in need in Paris, France. The French Red Cross is accepting donations at https://www.ammado.com/nonprofit/crf.

COMMUNITY KITCHEN: Our next Community Kitchen is on Friday, January 29th at the Elkton Presbyterian Church at noontime. We make and serve sandwiches, homemade soup, fruit, and dessert to anyone needing a good hearty meal. If you would like to help by providing ready-made sandwiches, and/or can help serve or clean up, we would love to have you join us! Please contact Joyce Speakman at 610-597-3135 or Kathy Chamberlin at 410-398-7299 to volunteer or for more information. We also would be glad to receive cash donations. If donating a check, please make it out to Immaculate Conception Church, and write Community Kitchen in the memo section. Please consider sparing a couple of hours for this very worthwhile cause.

Cecil County Pregnancy Center is dedicated to helping mothers and babies in Cecil County before and after birth. The Center relies entirely on donations. Our parish will sponsor a Baby Bottle campaign to support the Center on the weekend of January 16/17. Empty bottles will be provided in the vestibules of the Church that weekend. Please consider picking one up after Mass. After 3 weeks, please return it to the Church on February 6/7 with loose change, dollar bills, or a check. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
