Dear Parents,
It is the time of year when the weather is getting warmer, flowers are blooming, green seems to be coming up everywhere replacing the brown—in short, spring is nearly here! Though the focus of students and parents must be on finishing out the current school year strongly and with all the effort that can be mustered, thoughts also begin to turn to next school year. Later this spring teachers will be meeting with me to help create the drafts of class lists for the 2016-2017 school year. Your child’s current teacher and grade level will help to place your child into the best classroom for your child’s next school year here at Creekside. We are asking for your help in this process by offering the Classroom Environment / Teacher Request / Student Profile form that is included in this newsletter. If you have special insights or concerns regarding your child’s classroom placement for the next school year, please complete and return this form to Creekside Elementary School by Friday, May 6th. This form is not necessary for next year’s classroom placement, but if completed and turned in by May 6th, will be considered alongside of all of the other information that is used in forming class lists. If you request a particular teacher for your child, I do my best to honor those requests, but because of the many factors that go into creating a classroom of students, I can’t always make your request work. But, I do try to honor requests. As usual, classroom placements will not be shared with parents or students until August. This is necessary because over the summer we have many move-ins and move-outs and to release the classroom lists early would subject some students to hearing later that their classroom assignment has changed over the summer. I do thank you for your interest and please know that I am available for help and support should you have any questions regarding your child’s classroom placement next year here at Creekside Elementary School.

With cool spring weather here, please make sure to send your child to school each day ready for outside recess. Most of our students have recess in the mornings when it is still cool, so even if it will be 70 degrees by the afternoon, it may still be chilly in the morning. Please dress your child appropriately for outside recess each day through the rest of this school year. And, don’t forget to have your child wear athletic shoes each school day as well.

Counselor’s Corner From Mrs. Vidal, School Counselor
What We’ve Been Up To: During the month of March, students learned about career development. You can read more about the lessons at: http://vidalcounselor.weebly.com/this-months-lessons
Small Group Counseling: Please contact Mrs. Vidal to refer your child for the following groups: • Camp Care-A-Lot allows students, K-4, to talk in a small group about issues they have concerning
many different life changes. • Future Scholars is a group to provide extra support in study habits, classroom behavior and
organization. This group is for 3rd & 4th grade students only. • The Nutrition club is a weekend food program. It has now been expanded to include
weekly meetings where students learn about nutrition, gardening, healthy choices, friendship and social skills.
**SPECIAL EVENTS!**
If you are interested in volunteering for any events, please contact Mrs. Vidal ASAP.
4th GRADE CAREER DAY: Creekside will hold the 6th annual Career Day for all fourth grade students on Thursday, April 7, 2016. We are looking for parents to volunteer as half-day guest speakers. The speakers will give a short presentation about their career and are encouraged to provide hands-on, interactive activities to help the children learn about the career. Please contact Mrs. Vidal as soon as possible if you are interested in being a guest speaker.
MOCK INTERVIEWS Don’t want to speak in front of a crowd? No problem! We are also recruiting parent volunteers to help during our 4th grade 30-minute mock interview session, 11:30 – 12:00, on Thursday, April 7. During this session, adults will conduct a brief interview with students in order to practice social skills such as eye contact, shaking hands, posture and politeness. Adults will be given a script to follow.
3rd GRADE CAREER DAY: Creekside will hold a half-day Career Day for all third grade students on Friday, May 13, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. The theme is how to turn a hobby/interest into a career. We are recruiting five parents or community members to serve as guest speakers. These volunteers will give a presentation to each third grade class for 15 minutes with a question and answer period at the end. Please contact Mrs. Vidal if you are interested or know someone who might volunteer.
CAREERS ON WHEELS We will have our 5th annual “Careers on Wheels” event on Thursday, April 14th. The event will take place 12:30 p.m. – 2:15 p.m. in the Creekside parking lot. This community event will help second grade students understand how a variety of vehicles are used in different occupations. We will have representatives from various organizations bring their work vehicles to the Creekside parking lot. These guests will talk about their occupations, the vehicles and how they are used, as well as what a typical workday is like. If you would like to participate or volunteer as a guest speaker, please contact Mrs. Vidal.
CLASSROOM GUIDANCE LESSONS
• Kindergarten: Students will learn about self-control, learning from mistakes and honesty.
• First Grade: Students will learn about empathy and learning from mistakes.
