Diary Dates
A Note from Principal - Adam Wilson
Power Outage Last Friday was a testing time as our students and staff battled humid conditions with no power. I would like to thank families for their support in picking up their children. I recognise that this would have been challenging with work and other commitments but in the end I am relieved that we finished the day with students and staff staying safe and healthy.
Communication The power outage last Friday showed the importance of having the variety of communication methods available that the school offers. With no internet and phone lines we were able to put notifications on our Facebook page and our School Stream app. Please download the School Stream app and nominate Stirling North as your desired school. This way you will get notifications (messages) for important information as it happens.
Parent Information Night Do you want to know who all of the staff are that educate your children? Do you want to hear about some of the things that your children will be learning about? Do you want a free sausage sizzle dinner? Next Monday the 10th of February from 5:30 we will be holding a free sausage sizzle, followed by a whole school information session in the gym. You will then get to talk to your child’s teacher back in the class. The Information evening will conclude at 7pm and the school AGM will commence in the Library. It would be great to see as many families join us as possible.
Seesaw A fantastic app called Seesaw is used across our school. Students and teachers can upload videos, pictures and activities that have occurred in class and share them with parents and other nominated family members. It is safe and secure, with all posts being approved by teachers prior to being sent out. Parents will receive information about Seesaw in the first 2 weeks of the school year. Please note that although we have extremely dedicated teachers they will generally not respond to messages from parents after the hours of 5:30 and before 8:00. This is when they are eating, sleeping, and recharging to care for your children for another day.
New staff We are thrilled to have Catherine Harding and Hayley Hutchings as new teachers to the school this year. Already both teachers have settled in to the Stirling North style of teaching and have loved their time so far at our school. If you see them please welcome them and make them feel part of our amazing community.
Student Free Days I am pleased to announce that we have locked in all of our Student Free Days and I can communicate them to you early. The days are:
Term 1 Tuesday Week 5 (25/2) – Maths training and development. Wednesday Week 7 (11/3) – Play is the Way training. Assisting staff to teach wellbeing and personal and social skills. Please note that this date is the Wednesday after the long weekend. This is not ideal as students return for Tuesday and then have Wednesday off… but this was the only time available for the presenter.
Term 2 Tuesday Week 7 (9/6) – Teachers will be planning and moderating work in preparation for Semester 1 reports. Please note that this is the day after the June long weekend. Same day as Port Augusta Secondary School.
Term 3 Friday Week 7 (4/9) – School closure – same date as Port Augusta Secondary School.
Term 4 Friday Week 6 (20/11) – Planning for 2021.
