There’s more to spring cleaning than washing windows and shampooing car-pets. It’s the perfect time to take a fresh look at your finances. Could your credit report use some sprucing up? Download your free credit report at www.annual-creditreport.com, then follow these tips to get your report back in tip-top shape.

• There is no quick fix for a poor credit score. Be very cautious of anyone who promises, for a fee, to quickly “repair” your credit.

• Open new credit accounts only as needed, not for the store discount or for more spending.

• Pay ALL your bills on time EVERY month. Even payments that are only a few days late can have a major negative impact on your credit score.

• Get current and stay current. The longer you pay your bills on time after being late, the more your score should increase.

• If you are having trouble making ends meet, contact your creditors or a reputable non-profit credit counseling agency such as GreenPath.

• Keep credit card balances below 50% of your available credit line. High debt negatively impacts your score.

• Pay off debt rather than shifting it from one credit card to another.

• Don’t close unused credit cards to raise your score. It helps to have es-tablished accounts that have been managed well for 5 years or more.

• Don’t open a lot of accounts too quickly. Rapid account build-up can look risky to a lender.

Let the caring, compassionate counselors at GreenPath help you clean up your credit report. They offer free credit counseling, and they can help you develop a plan to get out of debt. Give them a call today at 1-877-337-3399 or visit green-path.com. The sooner you take action, the sooner you can get out of debt.
