Here’s a little history on the feast. It dates back to the 13 th century, but it celebrates something far older…the institution of the Sacrament of Holy Communion at the Last Supper. In 1264, Pope Urban IV established the Feast of Corpus Christi as a Universal feast of the church to be celebrated on the Thursday following Trinity Sunday. In the early centuries, the feast was celebrated with a Eucharistic procession in which the Sacred Host was carried throughout the town while people sang and prayed. Groups of faithful Catholics would venerate the Body of Christ as the procession passed by. Although we no longer celebrate in this manner, we still honor this important feast day by receiving Holy Communion at the Sunday Mass. So, with this in mind, we reflect on today’s Gospel about receiving Christ and our communion with Him. When we receive the Eucharist, we are sharing in the totality of who He is, His true flesh and His true blood. For He is the real bread that gives eternal life. PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

WE, the people of Our Lady of Consolation Parish guided by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the Eucharist, pledge to continue the mission of Jesus Christ who announced the reign of God. We accept His challenge to proclaim the Good News of salvation that Jesus, the Christ, died for us, and in Him we have life to the fullest measure. We seek to live as He lived, in service to others, building a community of faith and hope, with God’s grace as our strength and the peace of Christ our heart’s desire.

A Message from our Coordinator of Religious Education

Today we celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi (Latin for “the Body of Christ”) or the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Here’s a little history on the feast. It dates back to the 13th century, but it celebrates something far older…the institution of the Sacrament of Holy Communion at the Last Supper.

Youth Group

YOUTH MINISTRY SCHOLARSHIP: Congratulations to Class of 2017 Graduates David Fata, Wayne Hills High and Madelyn Acampora, Wayne Hills High School who received the 2017 Our Lady of Consolation Youth Ministry Scholarships! They are both recognized for their dynamic leadership and willingness to give of their time and talent freely in the Youth Ministry Program throughout their high school years. They have made a significant contribution to the Our Lady of Consolation Church community as role models and confident leaders.

Throughout their involvement at Our Lady of Consolation, they participated in Youth Group and became Peer Ministry Leaders. They completed a two-year Confirmation Program, attended many retreats and became retreat team leaders. David and Madelyn were Directors for the Antioch Retreat this spring for those teens receiving their Confirmation. They helped organize youth activities and participated in countless service projects and benefits.

Community Service Projects are an integral part of OLC’s Youth Ministry Program. David and Madelyn gave back countless hours helping at many car wash benefits. After mass, they gave out “free hugs” to parishioners, sold everything from pies to candy to raffle tickets to cookies to cupcakes for various benefits and handed out Easter treats to little kids. David dressed up as the Easter Bunny during our egg hunt and on Easter. Last year, Maddie coordinated our “SOUPer Bowl” Sunday collection and raised almost $900 for our local food pantry! WHAT MAKES A DAD?

God took the strength of a mountain. The majesty of a tree.

The warmth of a summer sun. The calm of the quiet sea.

The generous soul of nature. The comforting arm of night.

The wisdom of the ages. The power of the eagle’s flight. The joy of a morning in spring.

The faith of a mustard seed. The patience of eternity. The depth of family need.

Then God combined these qualities. When there was nothing more to add

He knew his masterpiece was complete. And so, He called it......DAD
