How are the feast of the baptism of Jesus and the account of the wedding feast of Cana related to the Epiphany celebra-tion?

The Epiphany season focuses on revealing Jesus to the world. Following the Christmas celebration, the liturgical year lays out a series of manifestations in which Jesus is made publicly known. From its very beginning, the Christian community highlighted three events in the life of Jesus. These are the Epiphany, the Baptism of the Lord, and the wedding feast at Cana. The Epiphany discloses Jesus to the world of the Gentiles, represented by the Magi from the East. The accounts of Jesus' baptism reveal his identity and mission, along with exposing him to those to whom he was sent to minister. The miracle of turning water to wine at Cana, unique to John's Gospel, is the first public sign Jesus performs, thus manifesting his identity and his powers. Today in the Roman Church, these are usually celebrated on three successive Sundays: Epiphany, the Baptism of the Lord, which is usually the next Sunday, and the wedding feast of Cana, which is only proclaimed on the Second Sunday of Ordinary Time in Year C. These feasts connect around the concept of epiphany, public manifestation of Jesus to the world. They help us get to know more intimately who Jesus is. You did a good job!” In today’s Gospel, it was time for Jesus to be baptized. After his baptism, Jesus talked to God his Father in prayer. Jesus did everything his Father asked. God was happy with his Son and said, “I’m pleased with you.”

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity January 18-25

Unity. What does "unity" mean? For those of us who claim Christ as our model of living and savior of humanity, it means we are one. This year the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity has as its theme the Scripture citation 2 5:14-20. The first line contains our mission statement.. "For the love of Christ impels us, once we have come to the conviction that one died for all; therefore all have died." If that is not a mandate for unity, then there is none. We are one in the death of Christ and therefore live in unity with all other Christians. God, who are unity in three holy persons--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit-- you have called us to live in peace with all people. You have also called us to work toward unity in purpose to spread the Gospel to all nations. Graciously give us the courage and strength to work toward unity, and act toward each other as brothers and sisters. We ask this in the unity of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.
